It mainly depends on the teacher characteristics such as knowledge base, sense of responsibility, and inquisitiveness; the student characteristics such as opportunity to learn, and academic work; the teaching factors such as lesson structure, and communication; the learning aspects such an involvement and success; and the classroom phenomena such as environment and climate, and organisation and management. If the teachers take care of these factors, their effectiveness can be enhanced to the optimum level. Considering the very importance of teacher effectiveness, this study has been undertaken to study the teacher effectiveness of secondary school teachers. The secondary school teachers are possessing high teacher effectiveness.

Book excerpt: By drawing on quantitative data and qualitative analyses of five major national education policies implemented in India over the last 15 years, this comprehensive volume explores their impact on teacher quality and perceived effectiveness, explaining how this relates to variations in student performance. Responding to a national agenda to increase the quality of the Indian teacher workforce, Teacher Quality and Education Policy in India critically questions the application of human capital theory to Indian education policy. Chapters provide in-depth and strategically structured analyses of five national policies - including the recently approved National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 - to see how Indian policymakers use teacher quality as a driver and measurement of education and national economic development. Ultimately, the text offers evidence-based policy recommendations to improve teacher quality in India, suggesting that while all five policies have contributed significant frameworks and recommendations for teacher quality reform, they have failed to move beyond a symbolic function. Given its rigorous methodological approach, this book will be a valuable addition to the under-researched question of education policymaking in postcolonial contexts. It will be an indispensable resource not only for scholars working on policymaking in the Indian context, but also for those working at the intersection of education, teacher development, and policymaking in developing countries.

A teacher with high tacit knowledge is usually considered an expert teacher. The purpose of this study is to find out whether teachers with high tacit knowledge give equal preference to the various components of Teacher Effectiveness viz. Adequacy of classroom procedures, Enthusiasm for teaching and knowledge of subject matter, Stimulation of cognitive and affective gains in students, and Relation with Students. Setting is secondary schools in Kerala state of India. Study Sample constitutes 50 Secondary School Teachers selected according to the Headmasters' nominations from 15 secondary schools of five districts of Kerala. Research Design: Interviews were conducted with Secondary School Head masters and located teachers with high tacit Knowledge. For data collection Instructor self-evaluation form was used. It was found that these teachers gave the highest preference to "Relation with students." There was not much difference in "Adequacy of classroom procedures" and "Enthusiasm for teaching and knowledge of subject matter." "Stimulation of Cognitive and affective gains in students' in them was the least. It is concluded that teachers with high tacit knowledge often possess good relationship with students over and above the "Stimulation of cognitive and affective gains in students" which is also an unavoidable component of teacher effectiveness. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Books on intercultural communication are rarely written with an intercultural readership in mind. In contrast, this multinational team of authors has put together an introduction to communicating across cultures that uses examples and case studies from around the world. The book further covers essential new topics, including international conflict, social networking, migration, and the effects technology and mass media play in the globalization of communication. Written to be accessible for international students too, this text situates communication theory in a truly global perspective. Each chapter brings to life the links between theory and practice and between the global and the local, introducing key theories and their practical applications. Along the way, you will be supported with first-rate learning resources, including: • theory corners with concise, boxed-out digests of key theoretical concepts • case illustrations putting the main points of each chapter into context • learning objectives, discussion questions, key terms and further reading framing each chapter and stimulating further discussion • a companion website containing resources for instructors, including multiple choice questions, presentation slides, exercises and activities, and teaching notes. This book will not merely guide you to success in your studies, but will teach you to become a more critical consumer of information and understand the influence of your own culture on how you view yourself and others.
