On procède à une analyse sémantique en liaison avec l’analyse fonctionnelle et on conclut qu’il est difficile de réaliser une base de données s’il on ne réduit pas la diversité des verbes utilisés. Nous proposons une vision énergétique à partir de la loi dite d’intégralité des parties qui décompose un système en entités particulières. La réalisation d’une fonction passe par la transformation d’une énergie par un convertisseur, cette énergie est transmise par un transmetteur et utilisée par l’opérateur pour exercer l’action, l’opérateur ne peut être qu’un transmetteur ou un convertisseur. Ainsi nous réduisons le système à 3 entités auxquelles s’ajoute l’entité de contrôle /commande. De surcroît, nous remarquons que nous limitons, au premier niveau, les verbes d’action à 2 verbes, convertir et transmettre. Ce premier niveau sera suivi de niveau auxquels comprenant des verbes synonymes plus précis associés à des compléments directement associés à des composants identifiés. Ainsi on peut définir une taxonomie qui permet de construire une base de connaissances de composants basée sur l’énergie, sa transformation et sa transmission. Cette base est associée à une structuration organique systématique et reproductible à chaque niveau d’analyse. Une méthode de conception préliminaire est élaborée à partir de l’utilisation de cette base. L’analyse énergétique de la réalisation de l’action permet de construire un organigramme technique particulier et de choisir dans la base des composants les convertisseurs et transmetteurs. Ensuite on procède à l’agencement de ces composants et on sélectionne les composants d’interaction standard à partir de logiques proche de la théorie des mécanismes. La phase suivante consiste à récupérer les modèles physiques associés (loi de conservation de l’énergie) dans la base et de sélectionner les effets produits puis induits afin de réaliser un modèle global du système utilisable en conception préliminaire. Les résultats de simulation permettent de calculer les variables liées aux critères d’appréciation de CdCF qui donnent les éléments d’aide à la décision. L’étude d’un système éolien, en particulier la conception du multiplicateur (transmetteur) et de son système de refroidissement (maîtrise des effets induits) sert d’exemple d’utilisation de la base et de la méthode de conception associée.

Enfin, le contenu de l'étude de dangers est décrit d'après la base réglementaire de leur guide d'élaboration. Compte tenu de son approche systémique et pédagogique, ce livre est accessible au débutant tout en répondant aux exigences des spécialistes. Sécurité des procédés chimiques s'adresse donc aussi bien aux ingénieurs, industriels, techniciens, cadres des services publics, des communautés urbaines et des collectivités territoriales, enseignants, chercheurs qu'aux élèves ingénieurs des grandes écoles scientifiques et aux étudiants de licence, master et doctorat des universités…
