Download or read book Wilderness Taunts written by Ian Adams and published by Canterbury Press. This book was released on 2016-11-30 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a hopeful human being today is a demanding task. Taunts and temptations face us on every side. In a series of striking meditations accompanied by photographic images, Wilderness Taunts equips us to face them. Drawing on the Gospel accounts of Jesus' 40 days of testing in the wilderness, it names and explores the taunts we face now, the critical and challenging messages from without and within that may throw us off balance. Ian Adams encourages us to listen attentively to these taunts, and to hear in them deeper questions about life, love and faith. He looks beyond their accusations to show them as gifts that invite us to better understand who we are, and step with confidence into whatever is being called of us.

Book excerpt: It's been two and a half years since the mysterious W disappeared from Chere's life, and things are getting better. Sort of. She's nearing the end of her design program and looking forward to a new career, even if her heart is shuttered for good. But loneliness is a powerful thing, and she finds herself tempted by a no-strings-attached BDSM partner who happens to be her former professor. She knows it's a terrible idea, and that he could never live up to W's level of passionate mayhem, but she's been waiting so long to be bound and hurt. She's been waiting so long to feel something...Unbeknownst to her, someone from her past has been waiting too. And when that someone realizes she means to move forward with this new partner, he barges back into her life to express his displeasure in the only way he knows... Note: This book is super rough. There's love, but it's rough. Hence, Rough Love series. This full-length novel is book two of a three-part storyline that culminates in Happily Ever After. But, full disclosure, it's going to be a rough ride.

Each player assumes their own role as a character in each campaign that the Gamemaster (GM) creates. Ultraverse is designed to emulate the fictional powers and abilities found in the pages of four-color comic books. Polyhedral dice such as d20, d12, d10, d8, d6 and d4 are required for play in Ultraverse. Hexagonal or Square maps are useful but not required for playing. I have tried to make the system easy to understand, fast-paced, and simple for players to get started. I am proud to have created Ultraverse and hope the readers have fun gaming!

Book Synopsis Taunting the Useful by : Loumille Métros
Download or read book Taunting the Useful written by Loumille Métros and published by punctum books. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an epoch driven by hyper-consumption and marvelously destructive futility, and in the context of a hegemonic utilitarianism where one goes to university to work rather than to “develop a meaningful philosophy of life,” the concept of the useful is perhaps one most in need of interrogation. Taunting the Useful seeks to unsettle notions of usefulness and uselessness, not merely by deconstructing these terms, but by sidetracking them. It doesn’t reverse things by saying that what is useless is useful. Rather, taunting is teasing, heckling, tickling, scratching the useful. By elaborating a notion of the “virtual useless,” Taunting the Useful seeks to tease the dimensions of wonder, use, and play, through modalities, contingencies, and potentialities of the useless-useful. An experimental book, it (un)does what it tells, and is as much an object taunting and taunted as it is a description of taunting the useful. Includes bonus chapters!

Download or read book Many Are Saying written by Rolf A. Jacobsen and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2004-04-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, Old Testament scholars have come to see that the aesthetic and rhetorical richness of Hebrew poetry goes far beyond simple synonymous, antithetic, and synthetic parallelism. One aspect that has yet to receive sustained treatment is the poetic device known as direct discourse or quotation-the direct citation of a person's speech. Rolf A. Jacobson remedies this lack and makes a significant contribution to Old Testament studies by offering a sustained investigation into the function of direct discourse in the Hebrew Psalter. This leads to a greater understanding both of direct discourse and also of those psalms in which this poetic device occurs.
