Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 4,0 (gut), University of Pécs (Faculty of Business and Economics), course: Corporate Finance, language: English, abstract: Two fields of policy have a strong impact on a national economy and its development. The first of the two policies that are designed to supplement each other, falls into governments responsibility, more exactly it is formulated by the minister of finance. This one is fiscal policy. The second one, monetary policy, is designed by the national bank. For making clear the difference between both I would like to explain both policies as an introduction to the topic of this paper. “The government’s choice of tax and spending programs, which influences the amount and maturity of government debt as well as the level, composition, and distribution of national output and income. Many summary indicators of fiscal policy exist. Some, such as the budget surplus or deficit, are narrowly budgetary. Others attempt to reflect aspects of how fiscal policy affects the economy. For example, a decrease in the standarized-budget surplus (or increase in the standarized-budget deficit) measures the short-term stimulus of demand that results from higher spending or lower taxes. The fiscal gap measures whether current fiscal policy implies a budget that is close enough to balance to be sustainable over the long term. The fiscal gap represents the amount by which taxes would have to be raised, or spending cut, to keep the ratio of debt to GDP from rising forever. Other important measures of fiscal policy include the ratios of total taxes and total spending to GDP.” In the way of deciding about the amount of expenditures and premises for spending, fiscal policy is an important tool for government for setting macroeconomic conditions.

Book Synopsis Japanese Monetary Policy by : Kenneth J. Singleton
Download or read book Japanese Monetary Policy written by Kenneth J. Singleton and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2007-12-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How has the Bank of Japan (BOJ) helped shape Japan's economic growth during the past two decades? This book comprehensively explores the relations between financial market liberalization and BOJ policies and examines the ways in which these policies promoted economic growth in the 1980s. The authors argue that the structure of Japan's financial markets, particularly restrictions on money-market transactions and the key role of commercial banks in financing corporate investments, allowed the BOJ to influence Japan's economic success. The first two chapters provide the most in-depth English-language discussion of the BOJ's operating procedures and policymaker's views about how BOJ actions affect the Japanese business cycle. Chapter three explores the impact of the BOJ's distinctive window guidance policy on corporate investment, while chapter four looks at how monetary policy affects the term structure of interest rates in Japan. The final two chapters examine the overall effect of monetary policy on real aggregate economic activity. This volume will prove invaluable not only to economists interested in the technical operating procedures of the BOJ, but also to those interested in the Japanese economy and in the operation and outcome of monetary reform in general.
Book Synopsis The Measurement of Monetary Policy by : M. Ray Perryman
Download or read book The Measurement of Monetary Policy written by M. Ray Perryman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material in this book reflects, in many respects, the culmination of several years of research regarding the measurement of monetary policy. On all the issues addressed in the text, I have thus attempted to provide a perspective of the type that can only be gained from "living with" a topic over an extended time horizon. I have often said that I came to understand the monetary indicators literature only after having written dozens of papers on the subject. This statement may seem a bit trite, but I feel certain that anyone who has waded through this morass (or at least tried to) can fully empathize and recognize the grain of truth therein. It is my sincere hope that the synthesis given in the work will calm the fears and anxieties that often (and understandably) plague beginners in this field. In settling down to the process of "pulling together" this manuscript, I was surprised to find the ease and consistency with which various topics, explored at widely diverse times and in no particular order, meshed into a unified whole. I attempted to write the book in a manner that would simultaneously be generally comprehensible to students (particularly at the graduate level) and to practitioners desiring a relatively thorough overview of the indicators literature and yet be of value to scholars desiring to explore (and hopefully advance) this field.

Book Synopsis Monetary Policy Strategy by : Frederic S. Mishkin
Download or read book Monetary Policy Strategy written by Frederic S. Mishkin and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book by a leading authority on monetary policy offers a unique view of the subject from the perspectives of both scholar and practitioner. Frederic Mishkin is not only an academic expert in the field but also a high-level policymaker. He is especially well positioned to discuss the changes in the conduct of monetary policy in recent years, in particular the turn to inflation targeting. Monetary Policy Strategydescribes his work over the last ten years, offering published papers, new introductory material, and a summing up, "Everything You Wanted to Know about Monetary Policy Strategy, But Were Afraid to Ask," which reflects on what we have learned about monetary policy over the last thirty years. Mishkin blends theory, econometric evidence, and extensive case studies of monetary policy in advanced and emerging market and transition economies. Throughout, his focus is on these key areas: the importance of price stability and a nominal anch fiscal and financial preconditions for achieving price stability; central bank independence as an additional precondition; central bank accountability; the rationale for inflation targeting; the optimal inflation target; central bank transparency and communication; and the role of asset prices in monetary policy.
