Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can we design an oil tanker that meets our complex demands for environmental protection, economical operation, and crew safety? This volume evaluates and ranks a wide variety of tank ship hull designs proposed by experts around the world. Based on extensive research and studies, the book explores the implications of our rising demand for petroleum and increase in tanker operations; U.S. government regulations and U.S. Coast Guard policies regarding designs for new tank vessel construction; how new ship design would affect crew safety, maintenance, inspection, and other technical issues; the prospects for retrofitting existing tankers to reduce the risk of oil spills; and more. The conclusions and recommendations will be particularly important to maritime safety regulators in the United States and abroad; naval architects; ship operators and engineers; and officials in the petroleum, shipping, and marine insurance industries.

Book Synopsis Preliminary Design of Oil Tankers by : Mohammed Abdul Hannan
Download or read book Preliminary Design of Oil Tankers written by Mohammed Abdul Hannan and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ship design is a complex iterative procedure and is comprised of several phases during which the design is developed in increasing degrees of details. Now a day, it seems that with the aid of modern technologies, ship design has become easier and convenient for the Naval Architects (N A) . However, expertise knowledge of various design software can not alone ensure a high degree of proficiency in ship design process. To become an expert designer it is very important for a N A to know the basic logic, theories, hypotheses, thumb rules of ship design based on which the software are developed. A clear understanding of these background knowledge will help the designer to operate and modify the software more effectively. Based on these ideas, the aim of this book is to provide a complete, fundamental understanding of the ship design procedure through the systematic explanation of each major step of an 'oil tanker design'. This chronological description of the entire preliminary design phase should be especially useful to young naval architects (or any ship designer who comes from a different expertise field) to build up an insight understanding of the entire process of ship design.

Download or read book Marine Design XIII, Volume 1 written by Pentti Kujala and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-06-04 with total page 1077 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is volume 1 of a 2-volume set. Marine Design XIII collects the contributions to the 13th International Marine Design Conference (IMDC 2018, Espoo, Finland, 10-14 June 2018). The aim of this IMDC series of conferences is to promote all aspects of marine design as an engineering discipline. The focus is on key design challenges and opportunities in the area of current maritime technologies and markets, with special emphasis on: • Challenges in merging ship design and marine applications of experience-based industrial design • Digitalisation as technological enabler for stronger link between efficient design, operations and maintenance in future • Emerging technologies and their impact on future designs • Cruise ship and icebreaker designs including fleet compositions to meet new market demands To reflect on the conference focus, Marine Design XIII covers the following research topic series: •State of art ship design principles - education, design methodology, structural design, hydrodynamic design; •Cutting edge ship designs and operations - ship concept design, risk and safety, arctic design, autonomous ships; •Energy efficiency and propulsions - energy efficiency, hull form design, propulsion equipment design; •Wider marine designs and practices - navy ships, offshore and wind farms and production. Marine Design XIII contains 2 state-of-the-art reports on design methodologies and cruise ships design, and 4 keynote papers on new directions for vessel design practices and tools, digital maritime traffic, naval ship designs, and new tanker design for arctic. Marine Design XIII will be of interest to academics and professionals in maritime technologies and marine design.

Book Synopsis The Theory of Oil Tankship Rates by : Zenon S. Zannetos
Download or read book The Theory of Oil Tankship Rates written by Zenon S. Zannetos and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory of Oil Tankship Rates: An Economic Analysis of Tankship Operations This study is based on my doctoral dissertation and subsequent related research that I conducted in the area of tankship transportation economics. The essential characteristics of the tankship markets, and the factors that influence the behavior of tanker owners and tanker charterers, have not changed since 1959 when I submitted the dissertation to the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Intervening events provided further evidence that the conclusions reached then are based on fundamental interrelationships of general applicability and which can stand the test of time. My interest in the area of tankship rate formation started in the spring of 1956, and was stimulated by Professor Morris A. Adelman who became chairman of my thesis committee. To him, and Professors Charles P.Kindleberger and Robert M. Solow, the other members of the committee, I wish to express my great appreciation for their guidance. To those who assisted me with the original manuscript I once again acknowledge my gratitude. In particular I wish to thank Professor Gordon Shillinglaw, now at Columbia University, and Miss Miriam Sherburne of the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who offered helpful criticism and suggestions on organization and form. The Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology supported part of the cost of data collection and processing with a grant from the Sloan Research Funds, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Computation Center allotted computer time to my research project for many statistical calculations and tests. To those responsible for this aid go my sincere thanks. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
