Very few folks know of my wife Ani’s and my involvement with those who secretly provided information to Queen Octavia. Nor do many folks know just how deeply involved I was after the death of Queen Octavia in thwarting the Regent’s intention to prevent Princess Esmeralda from becoming the next ruler of Sommerhjem when she came of age. What is important now is what can I reveal about my past and what do I still need to hold secret? My name is Thorval Pedersen and this is my tale.

Book excerpt: Details for Kismetwali and Other Stories Set against the backdrop of modern-day India, Kismetwali and Other Stories places the reader amidst circumstances that transcend place, purse and prestige. This octet of novellas offers a rare glimpse into the parallel lives of the privileged and penniless, converging on those astonishing moments when free will intercepts fate and the rigid divide between social classes is rendered insignificant. Each narrative showcases walas and walis of the working class—the common yet essential purveyors of goods and providers of service—as empowered individuals who take centre stage. The shavewala, a humble barber, becomes an intimate collaborator in a love story that spans the seven seas; the malishwali, a long-serving masseuse, conceals her mistress’s shocking secret while offering a gift of revelation to another; the kismetwali, a clairvoyant of unremarkable pedigree, solicits cosmic benefaction for her affluent clients. These socially eclipsed characters are the true protagonists in every story. About Reetika Khanna Nijhawan Reetika Khanna Nijhawan was born and raised in a small town in northern India. While growing up, she travelled the world extensively with her father, an officer in the merchant navy. After receiving her degree in Psychology from Delhi University, she worked as a flight attendant with Lufthansa German Airlines before settling down to write for ELLE and ELLE Décor in Mumbai. She later moved to Atlanta, where her work has been published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Khabar magazine. Kismetwali and Other Stories is her first work of fiction. She penned these eight novellas over time, while waiting in the carpool line outside her daughter’s school.

Information gleamed by the author is from 20+ years of sea-logs, is a narrative or comments by the captain of an off coming watch on an ocean vessel whereas the author was a member. By multiple aspects, I refer to facts, that while the story is based on facts, especially the strange events, the remainder I have taken the privilege of a fictional book to deviate from the "rume line". I have inserted my sense of humor whenever possible, also from events that have occurred. I have been told my sense of humor is dry but Im positive you will have a laugh or two! As a disclaimer; I end the yarn by sailing through the horizon oil spill in the northern Gulf of Mexico. I was there for the event but on a power vessel with log entries and pictures to document my participation in the failed off-shore clean-up of the mess left to us by an old ally from Europe. What is not in the book is that I contracted a lung disease from this experience. Many local good men and women did also. Furthermore, some have passed, but my rendition in the book is accurate as to the conditions at sea with as much as possible, emotions withheld. I believe that both sailor and non will enjoy this yarn and possibly learn a few things about our precious water world.

Book excerpt: “What was life like on a destroyer during World War II? Find out by reading Michael Keith Olson’s superb telling of tales of the war in the Pacific as seen from the deck of a very luck ‘tin can”… The son of a former Dale crewman, Olson interviewed 44 veterans and delved deeply into official documents to give this book the air of authenticity that puts the reader in the heart of the action. “Tales from a Tin Can is the first oral history of one combat ship’s adventures, sometimes comic, sometimes mundane, sometimes heart wrenching, over the entire course of America’s involvement in the Pacific. An impressive accomplishment and highly recommended.” WWII History “This fascinating book captures not only the furious clashes with the Japanese but also the humdrum days in-between and the heart-stopping encounters with typhoons that could be as lethal as any engagement with the enemy. Anyone interested in stories from World War II will find this well-illustrated account of the naval campaign in the Pacific fascinating.” Register –Pajaronian Looking up from his newspaper from where he sat on the deck of the destroyer USS Dale, Harold Reichert could see the pilot plain as day--the leather helmet with chin strap, the goggles, and then the red rising sun painted on the planes fuselage. "I saw the torpedo drop and watched as it ran up on the old Utah." It was daybreak at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the beginning of the war, and the Dale was there; she would serve until the end, when the atomic bombs were dropped and Japan surrendered. In the words of those who manned her, the Dales war comes vividly to life in this first oral history of a combat ship from Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay. From carrier raids on Midway, Guadalcanal, and the Solomons to the bombarding of Saipan and Guam in the capture of the Marianas, from the Aleutians in the far north to strikes on Tokyo and Kobe, Tales from a Tin Can recreates the action aboard the Dale, and conveys as never before the true grit of wartime on a destroyer.

Read about some of the Scots who made it into Celtic folklore. Travel with them to the foreign wars; join the caravans; sip coffee at Lloyds where the big deals were made. It explores the many loves we enjoy: lustful love between man and woman, trusting love with parent and child, brothers, sisters and family. It explores our strong love for the land and place of our birth. There are many common threads between the British Empire of the early twentieth century and our own U.S. government at the beginning of this new twenty-first century. Set in 1915 while Europe is aflame with war, and Irish rebellion close at hand, Jay and Deirdre meet on a train in Russia and fall in love. She disappears in Paris and Jay, frantic to find her, enlists the aid of MacGregor, his father’s best friend. Is she really a member of the secret Irish Republican Brotherhood? The sinking of the Lusitania adds a twist and Jay goes to Ireland to find his father and Deirdre.
