Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of Tacoma's Theater District is nearly as long as that of the city of Tacoma itself, spanning from the opening of the Tacoma Theater in 1890 to the present day, with restored historical facilities anchoring a renewed cultural district. This telling of the district's history reflects a range of engaging topics, including the boundless enthusiasm of the initial residents of Tacoma (the "City of Destiny"), the changing ways in which culture was shared and experienced over the decades of the 20th century, and a community working together through difficult times to save and restore historical buildings as gathering spaces for the benefit of future generations. The story is told through historical photographs of the theater venues themselves, as well as images capturing a myriad of cultural and community events taking place in those facilities and in the surrounding district.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Allen C. Mason launched his Point Defiance line in the early 1890s, the Proctor area became one of Tacomas first streetcar suburbs. Before this time, Tacomas North End was a remote, unsettled region populated only by those visiting the citys horseracing track. After Mason established a streetcar stop at the intersection of North Twenty-sixth and Proctor Streetsnear the racetrackbusinesses began to line the thoroughfare. By 1900, houses had been constructed within walking distance of the line, and a residential neighborhood provided the impetus for the construction of schools, a firehouse, churches, and a library. By the 1920s, the neighborhood had expanded and changed to reflect the introduction of the automobile as well as the districts popularity with University of Puget Sound students studying nearby. The community spirit that emerged then continues to this day.

Book excerpt: "It's not easy being a superhero. When not busy looking danger straight in the eye, there's comic book sales, public complaints and failed marketing strategies to deal with. Sometimes it seems the only solace for a hard day of crime-fighting is a trip to the secret café. Our heroes--the explosive Firebang, the voluptuous Mandible Maiden and the recently retired Crescent Wonder--gather to have a drink and welcome the newest apprentice, an eager kid with an unusual name. But the day is young, and there is danger lurking. 'American Way' shows what happens when those with superpowers suddenly realize that they are powerless. With a mixture of humor and tragedy, it shows us what truly makes a superhero"--Page 4 of cover.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1873, the Northern Pacific Railroad selected the south shore of Commencement Bay as the terminus of its transcontinental line. Connected to, but independent of the railroad, the Tacoma Land Company created a city adjacent to the terminus. By the early years of the 20th century, downtown Tacoma was the place to go for a wide array of activities from retail shopping and government activity to entertainment. Streetcars, and then automobiles, contributed to the ever-changing vitality of people and place. After the late 1960s, when developers constructed a mall south of the central core, city planners created a new type of urban experience centered on amenities designed to lure tourists and Tacomans alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This fun and fascinating book issues an enchanting invitation into current coffee culture. Marsha Glazière’s work is richly textured and framed from a poet's perspective. Who better than an artist to weave the Pacific Northwest's most romantic tale? As though she were recovering buried treasure, Marsha expertly guides us through Latte Land, from proud bean to magical elixir, sharing both coffee and her delight....one cup at a time. Seek out your favorite corner table, order your favorite espresso drink, and spend an afternoon with your new favorite coffee table book." Laurie Cheeley, Roastmaster for Highlands Coffee Company General Manager DIVA ESPRESSO "Marsha Glazière’s work has been featured in my Seattle, Washington and Sun Valley, Idaho galleries, and her one-woman exhibition in Idaho proved to be both aesthetically powerful and successful. Her equine imagery in particular was exceptionally well received. I believe this is due in part to Glazière’s sense of balance. Collectors, exclusively within a realistic sensibility, responded to her accurate portrayal of the horses’ muscle definition, movement and gaze, while the clientele with abstract preferences equally appreciated her work for what it evoked." Andria Friesen, FRIESEN GALLERY Seattle Sun Valley Amelia Island, Florida embraced Marsha Glazière’s interpretation of the beautiful North Florida landscapes in an abstract form like no other artists has been able to accomplish. She brought to the canvas her unique transformation of the Atlantic coast, the wildlife, and all the emotion it evokes. So it is no surprise that her ability to live in, embrace, and explore the surroundings of the Pacific Northwest, brought her to this new venture of capturing the area's favorite indulgence in an art form. Sit back and enjoy her incredible use of color and texture in bringing to life these beautiful and eclectic establishments.
