Book Synopsis Mycotoxin Exposure and Related Diseases by : Susana Viegas
Download or read book Mycotoxin Exposure and Related Diseases written by Susana Viegas and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-05-12 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mycotoxins are considered the most frequently occurring natural contaminants in human and animal diets. Considering their potential toxic and carcinogenic effects, mycotoxin exposure assessment has particular importance in the context of health risk assessment. The magnitude of a given exposure allows the derivation of the associated risk and the potential for the establishment of a disease. Although food ingestion is considered a major route of human exposure to mycotoxins, other contexts may also result in exposure, such as specific occupational environments where exposure to organic dust also occurs due to the handling of organic materials. Animals could be exposed to mycotoxins through consumption of contaminated feed, subsequently entering in the food chain and thus constituting a source of exposure to humans. Human biomonitoring is considered a new frontier for the establishment of the human internal exposure to mycotoxins. Although several studies have summarized the potential outcomes associated with mycotoxin exposure, major gaps in data remain in recognizing the mycotoxins that are the cause of diseases. This book contributes provides research that supports the anticipation of potential consequences of the exposure of humans and animals to mycotoxins, future risk assessments, and the establishment of preventive measures.

Book Synopsis The Nutrition of the Rabbit by : Carlos de Blas
Download or read book The Nutrition of the Rabbit written by Carlos de Blas and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rabbit production systems are important providers of meat in many parts of the world. The species has many advantages, including rapid growth rate and good reproductive performance. It is adaptable in that it may be reared under intensive conditions, but is also successful under small scale production systems, which are of considerable value in the economics of emerging countries. Although not a ruminant, its digestive system allows it to thrive on high fiber raw materials. The meat has a comparatively healthy low fat image, which is increasingly important to consumers and there appear to be few impediments, such as religious considerations, to rabbit meat consumption. However, the science of rabbit production has received relatively little attention, although there are recognized rabbit research groups worldwide and a wealth of data exists in a scattered form in the literature. This book brings together that expertise under one cover. It covers a range of topics, from digestive physiology and nutrient/energy allowances to feed formulation and production. The information provided will be an invaluable asset to those involved in rabbit rearing, whether as companion animals or for meat production, and will also provide data of considerable interest to animal nutritionists and zoologists working on rabbits and related mammals.
