Book excerpt: La méthode CCVD de synthèse de NTC consiste à réduire sélectivement une solution solide à haute température, sous H2-CH4, afin de générer des nanoparticules métalliques qui catalysent immédiatement la décomposition du CH4 et permettent la formation des NTC. Lors de la synthèse par combustion de a-Al1,8Fe0,2O3 des corrélations sont établies entre les conditions opératoires et les caractéristiques des poudres. Les NTC sont synthétisés par CCVD d'une mousse auto-supportée a-Al1,8Fe0,2O3. La qualité du carbone est améliorée en utilisant Mo soit ajouté à l'oxyde lors de sa synthèse soit imprégné dans une mousse céramique. Il est montré qu'il favorise la décomposition catalytique de CH4.L'introduction sous pression d'une barbotine de a-Al1,8Fe0,2O3 dans des mousses consolidées a été mise au point. La quantité de NTC est augmentée par l'oxyde Mg0,9(Co0,75Mo0,25)0,1O1+e. Ils offrent une surface spécifique de 15 m2/g de matériau composite, le rendant attractif comme support de nanoparticules.
