Book Synopsis The Evolution of Plant Physiology by : Alan R. Hemsley
Download or read book The Evolution of Plant Physiology written by Alan R. Hemsley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-02-05 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coupled with biomechanical data, organic geochemistry and cladistic analyses utilizing abundant genetic data, scientific studies are revealing new facets of how plants have evolved over time. This collection of papers examines these early stages of plant physiology evolution by describing the initial physiological adaptations necessary for survival as upright structures in a dry, terrestrial environment. The Evolution of Plant Physiology also encompasses physiology in its broadest sense to include biochemistry, histology, mechanics, development, growth, reproduction and with an emphasis on the interplay between physiology, development and plant evolution. - Contributions from leading neo- and palaeo-botanists from the Linnean Society - Focus on how evolution shaped photosynthesis, respiration, reproduction and metabolism. - Coverage of the effects of specific evolutionary forces -- variations in water and nutrient availability, grazing pressure, and other environmental variables

This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings fonn the outcome of an International Conference on "Impacts of Global change on Tree Physiology and Forest Ecosystems ", held from 26-29 November 1996, at Wageningen, The Netherlands. The conference brought together biologists, ecologists, and forest scientist working in the field of impacts of elevated CO and air pollution on tree physiology and forest ecosystems, and marked the 2 completion of a European COST action on "Impacts of Elevated C02 levels and Air Pollutants on Tree Physiology" (ICAT / COST-614), as well as the conclusion of the frrst phase of an EU-funded project entitled "Long-Term Effects of C02 and Climate Change on European Forests (LTEEF) ", that was carried out under the Environment and Climate Programme of the 4th Framework Programme (contract no's EV5V-CT94-0468 and PECOINIS-CT94-0112). The conference aimed to present an overview of current knowledge of effects of air pollution and climate change, at the biophysical, biochemical and physiological level of trees, against the background of climatic conditions and natural stresses. For the proceedings, we have asked the authors to provide an overview of their recent work, providing an entrance to a particular field of research rather than presenting unpublished material. The meeting took place at the International Agricultural Centre (lAC) with fmancial support provided by the COST-614 secretariat in Brussels. We like to thank mrs. A. van der Bunte of lAC for her support in organising the meeting, mr. A. J. H.
Book Synopsis Tree Crop Physiology by : A.S. Raghavendra
Download or read book Tree Crop Physiology written by A.S. Raghavendra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a recommendation from the plenary session of ``TREE-PHYSINDIA-82'', an international symposium held at the Rubber Research Institute of India, Kottayam, that a publication be brought out presenting information on the methodology adopted for various physiological studies in tree crops. Containing reviews on general physiology as well as detailed information on certain selected tree crops, the choice of topics emphasizes many aspects of tree physiology. The contributed articles in Part A provide an insight into different approaches to studying the physiology of tree crops, with an emphasis on methodology. Part B provides case-histories of physiological investigations on selected economically important tropical tree crops. The volume will provide a valuable source of information and stimulus to scientists involved in the work of tree physiology.

Book Synopsis Advances In Plant Physiology (From The Green To The Grain) by : Seshadri Kannan
Download or read book Advances In Plant Physiology (From The Green To The Grain) written by Seshadri Kannan and published by APH Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If one may recall nearly half a century ago, there wre small books, Methuen series publishing on special subjects like photosynthesis (C.P. Whittingham) and Plant Respiration (W.Stiles) in the 1950s and have been of great guidance for post-graduate studies in those years. Now great breakthrough have been made with the introduction of isotopes, modern tools and instruments which can project into the cell components and unravel the 'secrets' of plant life, with the results no one book could so completely cover a single topic like photosynthesis or respiration.
