Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Librarians often say that every book is not for every child, but The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp is” (The New York Times). Meet Bingo and J’miah, raccoon brothers on a mission to save Sugar Man Swamp in this rollicking tale and National Book Award Finalist from Newbery Honoree Kathi Appelt. Raccoon brothers Bingo and J’miah are the newest recruits of the Official Sugar Man Swamp Scouts. The opportunity to serve the Sugar Man—the massive creature who delights in delicious sugar cane and magnanimously rules over the swamp—is an honor, and also a big responsibility, since the rest of the swamp critters rely heavily on the intel of these hardworking Scouts. Twelve-year-old Chap Brayburn is not a member of any such organization. But he loves the swamp something fierce, and he’ll do anything to help protect it. And help is surely needed, because world-class alligator wrestler Jaeger Stitch wants to turn Sugar Man swamp into an Alligator World Wrestling Arena and Theme Park, and the troubles don’t end there. There is also a gang of wild feral hogs on the march, headed straight toward them all. The Scouts are ready. All they have to do is wake up the Sugar Man. Problem is, no one’s been able to wake that fellow up in a decade or four… Newbery Honoree and Kathi Appelt’s story of care and conservation has received five starred reviews, was selected as a National Book Award finalist, and is funny as all get out and ripe for reading aloud.

Download or read book Mile 21 written by Del Corey and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You have this book in your hands with the intent of being entertained, I presume. I hope that is the case. Some of you wish to whoosh through this tract, not expecting to discover any characters or gems of insight. I pray that you stop in your tracks and say, Son of a gun! I never thought of that! or perhaps I like looking at that from a different angle! That would be nice, because I believe such insights are in here, waiting to be discovered like jewelry in Grandmas boudoir. Now even though Im encroaching on some unmentionable years in my life, this is just my second novel! And I didnt think it would be such a momentous effort. I created scenes and characters that didnt exist before this! Where were they before? In my insane brain, I suppose. I was amazed to count and come to the realization that Id created over forty people! Many of them have come from parts of people I knew, and I thank them. Also, some of the people I created have become friends. I will miss them! Also, I trust that you, the reader, will enjoy to some degree the scenes and ideas I wrote for you without too many curves or knucklers so you can swing and hit home runs again and again while you find pleasure in the reading. Also, I mention addictions often in this book. I learned that there are good addictions and bad ones. I had the bad habit of smoking for many years, and I am so sorry now. If only I could unsmoke every cigarette Id had, but of course, I cant. And the damage is done to my lungs. Thank you, cigarette companies, for the gifts of packs and cartons while in the military! But dont focus on this one idea. Theres so much more in this book. Like sex! So enough of all that. Please read and enjoy! Or else!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of House of Wonder, two sisters embark on a surprising journey after the death of their mother. The hardscrabble Chase women—Mary, Hannah, and their mother, Diane—have been eking out a living running a tiny seaside motel that has been in the family for generations. Eighteen-year-old Mary Chase is a force of nature: passionate, beautiful, and free-spirited. Her much younger sister, Hannah, whom Mary affectionately calls Bunny, is imaginative, her head full of the stories Mary tells to give her a safe emotional place in the middle of their troubled world. When Diane dies in a car accident, Mary discovers that the motel is worth less than the back taxes they owe, and her finely tuned instincts for survival kick in. As the sisters begin a cross-country journey in search of a better life, she will stop at nothing to protect Hannah. But Mary wants to protect herself, too, for the secrets she promised she would never tell—but now may be forced to reveal—hold the weight of unbearable loss. “Captivating” (Publishers Weekly) and suspenseful, The Sisters Chase is a “striking, heartbreaking story about love, motherhood, and family, with a powerful and elusive protagonist at its heart” (Library Journal). “Thoroughly surprising…The Sisters Chase is that rare thing, a slow burner that conceals its cunning and sneaks up on you unawares.”—New York Times “Mary is a wonderful creation…A modern picaresque novel that surprises and delights.”—Toronto Star “Part mystery, part road novel, part family saga...had me riveted from the first secret to the last revelation.”—Lisa Lutz, New York Times–bestselling author

Book excerpt: My journey on the path to Spiritual Enlightenment began at a very young age; at the age of one and a half; I was violently thrust into the arena of good and bad, violent and non-violent in order to cape with the violence in my life, I connected with my "source." Outwardly, I was a "happy-go-lucky," child, while inwardly trying to rationalizing, and trying to understand how a person, like my father, who walked the earth, could grow into a monster, because for the most part we all start out as good human beings. There are some cases where a soul is born with an evil predisposition, but for the most part, people start out good, the environment they are born into plays a large role in shaping the person they ultimately become.
