Il “Made in Italy” ha palesato tutti i suoi limiti e specifici territori, culla delle eccellenze produttive italiane, sono andati in crisi, avviando pericolosi processi di destrutturazione. Un percorso vizioso che deve essere riorientato con politiche di intervento e di sostegno ad hoc. Il turismo può essere la strada da seguire; è il comparto economico che da anni produce la maggiore percentuale di PIL nazionale, nel mondo è secondo solo al petrolio. Tuttavia anche in termini turistici l’Italia ha mostrato alcuni limiti, soprattutto nei comparti tradizionali. L’offerta di turismi «minori» può divenire un essenziale volano di sviluppo, a patto che si proceda in termini sistemici, ricorrendo alla giusta tecnologia e rispettando i principi della sostenibilità ambientale, economica e sociale.
