They make the choice to work for what they earn. They believe a child deserves to have both a father and a mother. They are there to help when tragedy strikes. They are the first responders in a catastrophe. They know every person in this country has the right to make a choice. You can work and be a productive member or you can take advantage of the system and freeload off the true Americans. They do not believe foreigners should not pay taxes or get free food and medical treatment at the expense of the true American. They speak and write in English. They are proud of their past and they have learned from it. They know if you take away the past you destroy the future. America was founded to do what is best for the majority of the people, not what is best for the minority. Whether they believe in God or not they know the Ten Commandments are still written in stone.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sven, Ole, Asil, Einer and their friends are about to embark on one of the most heart-rending adventures of their lives. They will be joined by their friends Kavan, Parkurkarkuss and McCorn in an effort to rescue Kavan’s family from the Russian zone of occupied Germany. Atrocities committed by the Nazi’s are well documented. Educational institutes and even museums teach the world about the plight and suffering of the Jews and other minorities that were displaced from their homes and businesses, tortured and killed during the Nazi regime. These well-meaning organizations are there to make sure we never forget the holocaust that took place in Hitler’s Nazi Germany. History and education have told of the suffering and death reeked upon the countries that the Germans overran and occupied. After the unconditional surrender of Germany and its occupation by the allied nations the German people would be treated much the same as they had treated the countries that they had defeated. For the German survivors would soon be displaced from their homes, have their possessions and business taken away from them. The basic needs of life would be allowed only at sustenance levels. After Germany surrendered, a new virtually ‘unknown holocaust’ took place. From 1945-1950 the allies expelled or forced more than 14 million Germans from their ancestral homes. 4 million German citizens were sent away as forced labor, most of these went to Russia never to return. More than 2 million Germans were killed or lost their lives. Over 2 million women from the ages of 9 to 90 were raped. Many of them did not survive or were mutilated for life. In the winter of 1945-1946, the allies forbid any nation to send food or aid to the starving Germans. The allied authorities even rejected requests by the international Red Cross to bring provisions to alleviate the suffering of the German people. The most common response to allied atrocities was to say, “The Germans got what the deserved.” Many of the things you will read in this story are true and based on facts. There are books and resources available on line or at your library for those of you who would like to do further research. I hope that the ‘truth’ be it good or bad will help humanity not to repeat the same mistakes in the future. What was left of the German population had become the Victims of the Victorious.

Book excerpt: Half of the world’s inhabitants now live in cities. In the next twenty years, the number of urban dwellers will swell to an estimated five billion people. With their inefficient transportation systems and poorly designed buildings, many cities—especially in the United States—consume enormous quantities of fossil fuels and emit high levels of greenhouse gases. But our planet is rapidly running out of the carbon-based fuels that have powered urban growth for centuries and we seem to be unable to curb our greenhouse gas emissions. Are the world’s cities headed for inevitable collapse? The authors of this spirited book don’t believe that oblivion is necessarily the destiny of urban areas. Instead, they believe that intelligent planning and visionary leadership can help cities meet the impending crises, and look to existing initiatives in cities around the world. Rather than responding with fear (as a legion of doomsaying prognosticators have done), they choose hope. First, they confront the problems, describing where we stand today in our use of oil and our contribution to climate change. They then present four possible outcomes for cities: ”collapse,” “ruralized,” “divided,” and “resilient.” In response to their scenarios, they articulate how a new “sustainable urbanism” could replace today’s “carbon-consuming urbanism.” They address in detail how new transportation systems and buildings can be feasibly developed to replace our present low efficiency systems. In conclusion, they offer ten “strategic steps” that any city can take toward greater sustainability and resilience. This is not a book filled with “blue sky” theory (although blue skies will be a welcome result of its recommendations). Rather, it is packed with practical ideas, some of which are already working in cities today. It frankly admits that our cities have problems that will worsen if they are not addressed, but it suggests that these problems are solvable. And the time to begin solving them is now.

Book excerpt: This book is a state-of-the-art reference resource for surgeons treating patients with intra-articular fractures of the hip. It serves as a guide to assessing and classifying typical fracture patterns to reach the correct diagnosis and helps select the appropriate up-to-date treatment strategy. It describes in detail the complex anatomy of the acetabulum and proximal femur, and also explains the assessment of various radiological imaging techniques for the pelvis and the hip. The book highlights the advantages and disadvantages of traditional as well as newer surgical approaches to the hip and pelvis, such as surgical hip dislocation, hip arthroscopy, the pararectus approach, and combined approaches. For each surgical approach, the authors identify typical complications and document long-term outcomes. It also includes chapters on the management of specific fracture types, such as acetabular, femoral head (Pipkin), and femoral neck fractures, as well as traumatic hip dislocations, and pathological fractures due to osteoporosis or tumors. This book is part of the series Fracture Management Joint by Joint.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this volume is to showcase the contemporary state of research on recognizing and evaluating the performance of stone age weapons from a variety of viewpoints, including investigating their cognitive and evolutionary significance. New archaeological finds and experimental studies have helped to bring this subject back to the forefront of human origins research. In the last few years, investigations have expanded beyond examining the tools themselves to include studies of damage caused by projectile weapons on animal and hominin bones and skeletal asymmetries in ancient hominin populations. Only recently has there been a growing interest in controlled and replicative experiments. Through this book readers will be updated in the state of knowledge through a multidisciplinary scientific reconstruction of prehistoric weapon use and its implications. Contributions from expert authors are organized into three themed parts: recognizing weapon use (experimental and archaeological studies of impact traces), performance of weapon systems (factors influencing penetration depth etc.), and behavioral and evolutionary ramifications (cognitive and ecological effects of using different weapons).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late 1970s and 1980s saw a process of mass factory closures in cities and regions across the Midwest of the United States. What happened next as leaders reacted to the news of each plant closure and to the broader deindustrialization trend that emerged during this time period is the main subject of this book. It shows how leaders in eight metropolitan areas facing deindustrialization strived for adaptive resilience by using economic development policy. The unique attributes of each region - asset bases, modes of governance, civic capacity, leadership qualities, and external factors - influenced the responses employed and the outcomes achieved. Using adaptive resilience as a lens, Margaret Cowell provides a thorough understanding of how and why regions varied in their abilities to respond to deindustrialization.
