Yes you read right, "Foliage Tours." I never knew such thing existed. Soon after the leaves turn, winter hits you. It comes in full force and almost knocks your breath away. That's exactly what happened to me. I arrived in Boston on December 2007 ill-prepared for what was coming ahead. For the following 2 winter seasons I experience grief and aggravation due to the winter season and all I wanted was some insight of what I should prepared for prior to experience it. Someone please give me the winter survival guide all in one booklet. I imagined it call "Surviving a New England Winter 101" living the through the winter season like a champ

That means that he knows that at one particular period of the year, he is going to be subject to ice, snow and cold temperatures. He is also going to face blizzards and storms. As man has not been built by nature to curl up in a warm cave and hibernate throughout the winter like more sensible animals, the onset of winter brings with it the heightened sense of self-preservation. In olden days, all man could do was huddle into a corner, around the fire, and keep praying for the blizzard to stop. During this time, he survived on the food that he had stored in his cave or in his place of shelter during the more clement and temperate months of the year. As time went by man found that it was easy to transport himself and his family to other places, on horseback, or in a cart. And that is why he managed to look for more temperate regions - where the weather was not so harsh - before the onset of winter. But as time went by, nature still kept to her rules of a harsh winter, but mankind did not learn much in terms of common sense. In fact, he persisted on going out in the cold, instead of staying under shelter. And that is why the popular melodramatic cliché of someone turned from a doorstep on a harsh winters evening remained a popular theme in theaters. Even today in 80% of the popular escapist novels, the dumb, but beautiful heroine (single and pregnant in 90% of the cases, according to manuscript submission requirements, goes driving in a blizzard. - I told you that she is dumb - And the multibillionaire hero rescues her. And there is going to be a happily ever after, on page 186, because he is going to marry her. And there we are, we have just wasted our money on another thoroughly idiotic novel.) In real life, she would have died of hypothermia, because she is not well clothed, does not have fuel and has been buried in a snowdrift.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stories and accounts of Kentucky basketball's players, iconic coaches, and epic games have been told and retold, but lesser known are the stories of the arenas and venues that have been home to the Wildcats—buildings that have witnessed the sights, sounds, and shared spirit of the Big Blue Nation for over a century. In House of Champions: The Story of Kentucky Basketball's Home Courts, author Kevin Cook combines archival research and numerous interviews with players and coaches to reveal the rich history and colorful details of the structures that have hosted University of Kentucky basketball. A number of fascinating backstories are uncovered, including the excitement of Alumni Gym's opening night in 1925, the problematic acquisition of Black community land for the building of Memorial Coliseum, and the painstaking inscription of nearly ten thousand names of Kentucky's World War II and Korean War heroes to be displayed along the Coliseum's pedestrian ramps. The account concludes with a compelling overview of the development of historic Rupp Arena: its inner workings, the prominent figures involved, and how the initial conversation to build it began over a slice of Jerry's pie in 1968. This insightful and entertaining history reveals how the impact of sporting facilities extends far beyond game night as they continue to shape and influence the social, economic, and political landscapes of Lexington and central Kentucky.

Raney will teach you to find food where others see dirt, and to build a home where others see empty land. He will inspire you to forge your own homestead dream and strengthen your family for all challenges to come.

Book excerpt: This is a book about surviving the worst that winter has to give us. And there''s a lot of bad stuff. Severe cold, bone-chattering wind chills, heavy snows, cars or trucks that won''t start in a storm, isolation, short, dark days, and a lot more. And if you''re caught in the midst of even one of these situations -- much less more than one -- you are in a possible deadly challenge to your life. And that''s under "normal" situations. If one of these events happens when there''s an apocalyptic issue going on regionally or even world-wide, your problems will grow exponentially worse. Which is why you have to be ready. Because unless you live in a very warm climate year round, you don''t know when you might be caught in one of these scenarios. And if you are, not only your life might be at risk, but the lives of your wife or your children or your parents or someone else who depends on you. And even if you live in a warm climate, you might have a freak storm. Although we don''t think about these much, they happen, even in such normally year round warm spots like southern California or Texas or Florida. And the added problem in spots like those is that people aren''t prepared. Why should they be? After all, a record-breaking cold spell is unlikely to happen, right? Until it does. And while a woman in Nebraska might know what to pack, and how to watch out for a storm like that (after all, she probably deals with them every year) our suddenly cold friends in Texas or Florida aren''t used to dealing with such. And might not know how to drive in these situations. Or might not know what to have in their car or truck. Or might not know how to deal with a situation that could either be an aggravation -- or a potentially life-threatening hazard. And in these situations, you might have to depend on your own skill and knowledge and street smarts to save your life. Even in normal times, in a storm, rescue resources will be stretched -- and someone may not be able to get to you in time to help you out. But imagine what would happen if a catastrophic event occurred in the midst of one of these worst case winter scenarios. In a time like that, it might be days or weeks or longer before rescue services could recover. And while volunteers would probably be doing everything they could to take care of suffering, those volunteers would be stretched to the limits. Getting to you might take a long time. And that''s even assuming that they would know that you were out there: maybe trapped. Cold. Snowed in. Nothing to eat. No water. And dangerously cold temperatures every day and night. So that''s what this book is about: saving your life and the lives of those who depend on you. It''s long on action and short on theory. Because while there''s nothing wrong with theory, a good theory won''t save your life. Read this book carefully. I want you to understand it. I want it to become part of the way you approach winter. Because winter is a little bit like electricity. How''s that, you ask? Well, electricity is wonderful. It enables us to work on a computer, to read by a light, to cook a meal on an electric stove, or to run life-saving medical equipment. But get on the wrong side of electricity, and you can get the jolt of your life or get knocked across a room by the current. Or even killed. I don''t want you to be afraid of winter. It''s a great time, and a time when we often enjoy wonderful times with those we love, especially around Christmas. But I do want you to respect winter. Because while it can be a time of beauty and fun, it can be deadly if not dealt with correctly. And that''s for normal, healthy adults. Children, the elderly, the sick - these are even more at risk. This is how you can not only save your life, but be useful when a community has to recover after a collapse. You can make a difference. What you know is more important than any equipment you might have, crucial as that equipment can be. Study this book carefully, and you''ll have that needed knowledge.
