Book excerpt: The Indian Army completed careful negative marks against dread launchpads on and along the Line of Control (LoC). The careful strikes were completed almost 10 days after the Uri dread assault where 18 warriors were killed when four psychological oppressors propelled a torrent of projectiles at the Army's 12 Brigade central station in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. Reviewing the evening of October 28-29 when Special Forces of the Indian Army completed the careful strikes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said three years back on this day he didn't rest the entire night and was trusting that his telephone will ring. Tending to BJP laborers minutes in the wake of coming back from his outing to the US on Saturday night, PM Narendra Modi stated, "That day denoted the triumph of India's bold troopers who did careful strike and made the nation glad."

Book excerpt: "Improving business processes, whatever or wherever they are in the enterprise, is an acknowledged way of improving the bottom line. Whether it's re-engineering, Six Sigma, TQM, or any number of other techniques, the problem is that it's usually such a huge undertaking that it's more work than it's worth. Kelvin F. Cross proposes that results can be achieved much more easily by going in and performing ""surgical strikes"" on specific areas that need improvement, without turning the entire thing into a ""science project."" And now his method is available for anyone seeking to streamline process structures. Using case studies from companies including AT&T, GE, and Weight Watchers International to illustrate the remarkable results that can be achieved, Quick Hits sums up the ten key areas that are perfect targets for surgical strikes, demonstrating exactly how to handle each type of problem. By showing how to determine which approach to use for any given situation, the book gives readers an arsenal of tactical and judicious methods designed to be low risk, low cost, and very effective."

Gokhale provides the most intimate and sweeping account yet of Team Narendra Modi's approach to national security and foreign policy initiatives. Drawing on internal memos, as yet classified information, meeting notes and hundreds of hours of interviews with key players in the national security team, Gokhale brings alive inside stories of decision-making at the highest levels in the government. Painstakingly researched, the book details hitherto unknown aspects of the planning and execution of the surgical strikes, revamping of New Delhi's policy towards China and Pakistan, India's renewed global policy focus on Middle East, Prime Minister Modi's attempt to leverage the Indian diaspora worldwide and his attention to smallest of details besides focusing on some small but far-reaching steps taken to secure India in every possible way -on land, space, cyber and maritime domains.

But when the political flames began to swallow the nation and its social fabric to exploit the situation, it was obvious for the protagonist Aajivak Babu to be involved in surgical strikes on different fronts. He collides with the culture of becoming a large gathering turned into robots, sheep, mindless crowd, a product ‘For Sale’ with their remote controls in the hands of unbridled radical forces to hostage the constitutional institutions where media play as an auctioned players of ‘Indian Media Premier league’, then what bitter experience the Indian society and the nation pass through, ‘Surgical Strike’ mirrors it all as lifeline of the novel.

Book excerpt: This research paper explores the relationship between the advancement in conventional weapons guidance technology and the "revolution in military affairs" (RMA) said to be afoot. It also explores whether the improvement in conventional air weapons accuracy since World War II is the foundation, the main pillar, one of the principal supports, or is irrelevant to the RMA. Clearly, the air theorists of the 1920s were fully persuaded that indeed a revolution was afoot. Equally clear, the visions of Guilio Douhet, William "Billy" Mitchell, and the Air Corps Tactical School (ACTS) were no more than partially fulfilled in World War II. This research paper explores the degree to which the shortcomings of aerial weapons were responsible for the denial of their visions and the degree to which those inadequacies were overcome in the conflicts that followed. It closes with an estimate as to whether those dreams of a revolution are about to be fulfilled. Bernard Brodie concluded that World War II had been as complete a test of the theories as Douhet could have desired. Yet, the argument goes on as to the effectiveness of the bombing campaigns of that conflict. Consequently, none of the subsequent air wars has approached the completeness of the tests over Japan and Germany in the 1940s. Therefore, the concluding estimate cannot be much more than a guess.

Book excerpt: A surgical strike is a military attack which is intended to damage only a legitimate military target, with no or minimal collateral damage to surrounding structures, vehicles, buildings, or the general public infrastructure and utilities. A swift and targeted attack with the aim of minimum collateral damage to the nearby areas and civilians is a surgical strike. Neutralization of targets with surgical strikes also prevents escalation to a full-blown war. Surgical strike attacks can be carried out via air strike, airdropping special ops teams or a swift ground operation or by sending special troops. Precision bombing is another example of a surgical strike carried out by aircraft - it can be contrasted against carpet bombing, the latter which results in high collateral damage and a wide range of destruction over an affected area which may or may not include high civilian casualties. The bombing of Baghdad during the initial stages of the 2003 invasion of Iraq by US forces, known as ""shock and awe"" is an example of a coordinated surgical strike, where government buildings and military targets were systematically attacked by US aircraft in an attempt to cripple the Ba'athist controlled Iraqi government under Saddam Hussein.

Mets's "The Long Search for a Surgical Strike: Precision Munitions and the Revolution in Military Affairs" is a broad, though-provoking examination of the relationship between the advancement in conventional weapons guidance technology and the "revolution in military affairs" (RMA). He defines and RMA as a rapid change in military technology, doctrine, and organization leading to a sweeping new way that wars are fought. Dr. Mets then considers whether the improvement in conventional air weapons accuracy since World War II is the foundation, the main pillar, one of the principal supports, or is irrelevant to the RMA - which is said to be afoot. Clearly, the air theorists of the 1920s were fully persuaded that indeed a revolution was afoot. Equally clearly, the visions of Guilio Douhet, William "Billy" Mitchell, and the Air Corps Tactical School were no more than partially fulfilled in World War II. Dr. Mets also explores the degree to which the shortcomings of aerial weapons were responsible for the denial of their visions and the degree to which those inadequacies were overcome in the conflicts that followed.
