Book Synopsis The Philosophy of Peter Abelard by : John Marenbon
Download or read book The Philosophy of Peter Abelard written by John Marenbon and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a major reassessment of the philosophy of Peter Abelard (1079-1142) which shows that he was a far more constructive and wider-ranging thinker than has usually been supposed. It combines detailed historical discussion, based on published and manuscript sources, with philosophical analysis which aims to make clear Abelard's central arguments about the nature of things, language and the mind, and about morality. Although the book concentrates on these philosophical questions, it places them within their theological and wider intellectual context.

Book Synopsis L'imaginaire politique by : LAMIZET Bernard
Download or read book L'imaginaire politique written by LAMIZET Bernard and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-07-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: P. J. MESSAGE University of Liverpool The papers which comprise this volume were presented at Colloquium No. 41 of the International Astronimical Union, which was held in Cambridge, England, from the 17th to the 19th of August, 1976, and had as its subject 'Dynamics of Planets and Satellites and Theories of their Motion'. The Colloquium was held just prior to the XVIth General Assembly of the Union (which was held from 24th August to 2nd September, in Grenoble, France) to provide an opportunity for the presentation of research papers on a number of active and lively branches of Celestial Mechanics to a gathering of experts in the field, and for the stimulus of discussion of research problems of interest to participants. A number of papers testify to the progress being made in General Planetary Theory, the theories of motion of the minor planets, the Moon, and the satellites of Jupiter and Saturn, and to significant advances in both the general and restricted gravitational problems of three bodies. The Organizing Committee of the Colloquium was comprised of J. Chapront, R. L. Duncombe, J. Hadjidemetriou, Y. Kozai, B. Morando, J. Schubart, V. Szebehely, and P. J. Message (Chairman). The local Organizer was D. C. Heggie, to whose tireless efforts the success of the arrangements is due. IX LIST OF PARTICIPANTS N. Book Synopsis Reading the Royal Monument in Eighteenth-Century Europe by : Charlotte Chastel-Rousseau
Download or read book Reading the Royal Monument in Eighteenth-Century Europe written by Charlotte Chastel-Rousseau and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading the Royal Monument in Eighteenth-Century Europe is the first in-depth study of the major role played by royal monuments in the public space of expanding cities across eighteenth-century Europe. Using the royal public statues as the basis for its examination of modern European cities, the book considers the development of urban landscapes from the creation of capital cities to the last embers of the Ancien R?me and at how the royal politics of the arts affected the cityscapes of the time. The focus of the book thereby intersects across a spectrum of disciplines, including the social and architectural history of cities, the politics of urban planning, the history of monumental sculpture, and the material culture of the eighteenth century.
