Book Synopsis Supplementary Feeding of Sheep and Beef Cattle by : David G Hinton
Download or read book Supplementary Feeding of Sheep and Beef Cattle written by David G Hinton and published by Landlinks Press. This book was released on 2007-01-22 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical guide is a tool designed for graziers to use in their day-to-day decision-making about livestock nutritional needs, feeding options, condition and health. Pasture supplements are expensive and should not be wasted, yet under-nutrition has an even greater economic effect resulting from low conception and progeny survival rates, poor growth rates, failure to meet market targets and tender fleeces in sheep. Supplementary Feeding of Sheep and Beef Cattle shows how to get the nutritional balance right and avoid costly repercussions from incorrect or inadequate feeding. The key topics covered will be particularly useful in drought situations, but also in seasonal pasture shortages, when the nutrient value of pastures is low. Practical tables and worksheets are provided as key tools, enabling livestock producers to make timely and cost-effective decisions about supplementary feeding.

Book Synopsis Feeding Infants and Children from Birth to 24 Months by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Feeding Infants and Children from Birth to 24 Months written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recommendations for feeding infants and young children have changed substantially over time owing to scientific advances, cultural influences, societal trends, and other factors. At the same time, stronger approaches to reviewing and synthesizing scientific evidence have evolved, such that there are now established protocols for developing evidence-based health recommendations. However, not all authoritative bodies have used such approaches for developing infant feeding guidance, and for many feeding questions there is little or no sound evidence available to guide best practices, despite the fact that research on infant and young child feeding has expanded in recent decades. Summarizing the current landscape of feeding recommendations for infants and young children can reveal the level of consistency of existing guidance, shed light on the types of evidence that underpin each recommendation, and provide insight into the feasibility of harmonizing guidelines. Feeding Infants and Children from Birth to 24 Months collects, compares, and summarizes existing recommendations on what and how to feed infants and young children from birth to 24 months of age. This report makes recommendations to stakeholders on strategies for communicating and disseminating feeding recommendations.

This book was released on 1973 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Testing of a whey-soy beverage powder was carried out in Chile, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Sierra Leone and the Dominican Republic to determine its probable acceptability for use as a supplementary food for pre-school children. Test results indicated that the beverage powder should be acceptable in all test countries except possible Sierra Leone. Moreover, since the tests were carried out in a variety of geographical areas and cultures and in several types of distribution systems, it may be concluded that there is a high probability that the beverage powder will be acceptable in pre-school child feeding programs in most parts of the developing world.

Book Synopsis Plants in Human Health and Nutrition Policy by : Artemis P. Simopoulos
Download or read book Plants in Human Health and Nutrition Policy written by Artemis P. Simopoulos and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume includes a series of studies on edible wild plants and their impact on human health. Today the diet of developed societies is limited to a few cultivated vegetables while the developing countries often lack an adequate supply of micronutrients. Wild plants contain antioxidant, omega-3 fatty acid and micronutrient components that contribute to both a decrease in the risk for chronic diseases as well as the reduction of nutritional deficiencies. Thus they address many diet-related problems at both ends of the socioeconomic spectrum. Results from research provide data on the composition of indigenous plants from various areas of the world and show that consumption of green leafy vegetables corrects deficiencies successfully. The book also deals with nutrition policy integrating indigenous foods against micronutrient deficiency. Implementation of scientific evidence is an essential precondition for improving nutrition policy. Nutritionists, food producers, botanists, agronomists, food technologists, pharmacologists as well as all professionals involved with food policy and human development will find in this book a valuable and updated basis for their work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MIT International Nutrition Planning Program (INP) was initiated in the fall of 1972 with a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, later supplemented by funds from USAID under the 2110 Program. Con ceived as a multidisciplinary undertaking, the INP was a joint effort of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science and the Center for Inter national Studies at MIT that also included representatives of the Depart ments of Economics, Political Science, Urban Studies, Humanities (Anthropology), and Civil Engineering. It has been successful in attract ing graduate students and conducting research on various international food and nutrition problems, including the design of intervention pro grams. A condition of the original grant from the Rockefeller Foundation was the organization of a meeting to summarize and evaluate the prog ress of the program. It was ultimately decided that the best approach would be a workshop that would attempt to assess what had been learned about the implementation of food and nutrition policies since the start of the INP. Out of concern for food and nutrition policy issues, the World Hunger Programme of The United Nations University (UNU) and the Ford Foundation also agreed to cosponsor the workshop.
Book Synopsis Urea as a Protein Supplement by : Michael H. Briggs
Download or read book Urea as a Protein Supplement written by Michael H. Briggs and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-16 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urea as a Protein Supplement presents the significant advances that have been made in ruminant nutrition. This book examines the role of the rumen flora and fauna as synthesizers of protein from non-protein nitrogen sources such as ammonium compounds and urea. Organized into four parts encompassing 23 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the use of urea and other non-protein nitrogen sources in ruminant nutrition. This text then explores the various methods that may be used for the preparation of urea, which involves the dehydration of ammonium carbamate produced by the reaction of carbon dioxide and ammonia at high pressure and temperature. Other chapters consider the ways in which urea could be utilized to increase protein supplies. The final chapter deals with the hydrolysis of urea by urease to ammonia and carbon dioxide, which has been used as a method for determining urea for many years. Agricultural scientists and farmers will find this book useful.
