Book Synopsis Market-facing Pay by : NHS Pay Review Body
Download or read book Market-facing Pay written by NHS Pay Review Body and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-12-05 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report considers how to make pay more market-facing in local areas for NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) staff and recommends market-facing pay to support recruitment and staff retention. The AfC system is perceived as fair and objective by all parties, supports stable industrial relations, and is viewed as compliant with equal pay principles. Analysis does not provide firm evidence for further investment in additional market -facing pay in the NHS at this time and further development of AfC is needed to meet the challenges and cost pressures in the NHS. AfC is considered the appropriate vehicle through which to develop market-facing pay as it already has positive features for it. The Review Body therefore specifically recommends a fundamental review of high cost area supplements, appropriate use of local recruitment and retention premia, and regular review of AfC, including its flexibilities, with any necessary negotiations brought to a conclusion at a reasonable pace
Book Synopsis Industrial Relations by : Trevor Colling
Download or read book Industrial Relations written by Trevor Colling and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition of Industrial Relations: Theory and Practice follows the approach established successfully in preceding volumes edited by Paul Edwards. The focus is on Britain after a decade of public policy which has once again altered the terrain on which employment relations develop. Government has attempted to balance flexibility with fairness, preserving light-touch regulation whilst introducing rights to minimum wages and to employee representation in the workplace. Yet this is an open economy, conditioned significantly by developing patterns of international trade and by European Union policy initiatives. This interaction of domestic and cross-national influences in analysis of changes in employment relations runs throughout the volume.
Book Synopsis When Women Come First by : Sheba George
Download or read book When Women Come First written by Sheba George and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2005-07-18 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a subtle yet penetrating understanding of the intricate interplay of gender, race, and class, Sheba George examines an unusual immigration pattern to analyze what happens when women who migrate before men become the breadwinners in the family. Focusing on a group of female nurses who moved from India to the United States before their husbands, she shows that this story of economic mobility and professional achievement conceals underlying conditions of upheaval not only in the families and immigrant community but also in the sending community in India. This richly textured and impeccably researched study deftly illustrates the complex reconfigurations of gender and class relations concealed behind a quintessential American success story. When Women Come First explains how men who lost social status in the immigration process attempted to reclaim ground by creating new roles for themselves in their church. Ironically, they were stigmatized by other upper class immigrants as men who needed to "play in the church" because the "nurses were the bosses" in their homes. At the same time, the nurses were stigmatized as lower class, sexually loose women with too much independence. George's absorbing story of how these women and men negotiate this complicated network provides a groundbreaking perspective on the shifting interactions of two nations and two cultures.
Download or read book HM Treasury Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "On 23 June 2016, the British people will make the most important decision for a generation - whether the United Kingdom (UK) should remain a member of the European Union (EU). This document provides rigorous and objective economic analysis of the long-term impact of remaining a member of the EU compared to the alternatives. The HM Treasury analysis uses a widely adopted gravity modelling approach, which distinguishes the specific effect of EU membership and the alternatives from all the other influences that determine trade and foreign direct investment (FDI). The consequences for productivity and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) are then estimated based on the most relevant external evidence on the impact of trade and HM Treasury modelling of FDI. Through a range of realistic assumptions, many of them cautious, the HM Treasury analysis produces robust estimates, which are within the range of external studies."--Executive summary.
