Download or read book Don't Buy the Lie written by Mark Matlock and published by Zonderkidz. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can psychics really see our futures? Do angels really float among us on earth? What about demons? And could the supernatural things that happen on TV and in the movies really occur? Using Barna research and biblical truths, Mark Matlock separates the truths from the lies we are told and helps teens like you avoid the traps that can lead to deception. We all know demogorgons aren’t real, and that evil dolls can’t come to life … but are there elements of the paranormal that are really around us on earth? And if so, what does that mean? In Don’t Buy the Lie, Mark Matlock uses the knowledge he’s gained in his role as a special project analyst and presenter for the Barna Group to present clear principles and intriguing examples that show you how to respond to the supernatural with wisdom, and without being duped. He identifies “thinking traps” that lead to deception, such as letting your emotions take over and convincing yourself something could be real until it seemingly is. And with clarity, he provides biblical answers to frequently asked questions about such things as miracles, angels, demons, and psychic abilities. Don’t Buy the Lie: looks at both the spiritual and “secular” sides of the supernatural to show what is real and what is false helps develop discernment when it comes to things you might encounter compares the supernatural claims in our world today with what was happening in the early church to present a biblical perspective contains real research and feedback from teens on each topic
Download or read book Lies That Kill written by Rob Randall and published by St Century Press. This book was released on 2011-01-31 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In LIES THAT KILL, Dr. Rob Randall presents ten different perspectives that underline one basic truth-lies kill; truth sets us free. This book is extremely important because it exposes some common lies that are generally believed to be true, and it proclaims the biblical truth in juxtaposition to each of those lies. The basic lies of this age and all the philosophies attached to them are leading many to hell and destruction. Dr. Randall, a multi-gifted man of God, convicts us as only the evangelist can. He effectively combines Scripture, historical references, charts, and personal testimonies to reveal areas of deception that are pervasive in our lives today. Our need is so great because the outcome of believing deception and lies is so profoundly destructive. The light that Randall sheds on our time and culture and our perishing life appears to us as light in darkness. The light of truth is starkly contrasted to the darkness of our present time and decadence. The choices given us are clearly stated. This book will divide. Dr. Randall and LIES THAT KILL are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing-to the perishing, the smell of death; to those being saved, the fragrance of life (paraphrase of 2 Corinthians 2:15-16 NIV).
Book Synopsis The Supernatural Revamped by : Barbara Brodman
Download or read book The Supernatural Revamped written by Barbara Brodman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-04-20 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the logical continuation of a series of collected essays examining the origins and evolution of myths and legends of the supernatural in Western and non-Western tradition and popular culture. The first two volumes of the series, The Universal Vampire: Origins and Evolution of a Legend (Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, 2013) and Images of the Modern Vampire: The Hip and the Atavistic. (Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, 2013) focused on the vampire legend. The essays in this collection expand that scope to include a multicultural and multigeneric discussion of a pantheon of supernatural creatures who interact and cross species-specific boundaries with ease. Angels and demons are discussed from the perspective of supernatural allegory, angelic ethics and supernatural heredity and genetics. Fairies, sorcerers, witches and werewolves are viewed from the perspectives of popular nightmare tales, depictions of race and ethnicity, popular public discourse and cinematic imagery. Discussions of the “undead and still dead” include images of death messengers and draugar, zombies and vampires in literature, popular media and Japanese anime.

Book Synopsis Supernatural Entertainments by : Simone Natale
Download or read book Supernatural Entertainments written by Simone Natale and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Supernatural Entertainments, Simone Natale vividly depicts spiritualism’s rise as a religious and cultural phenomenon and explores its strong connection to the growth of the media entertainment industry in the nineteenth century. He frames the spiritualist movement as part of a new commodity culture that changed how public entertainments were produced and consumed. Starting with the story of the Fox sisters, considered the first spiritualist mediums in history, Natale follows the trajectory of spiritualism in Great Britain and the United States from its foundation in 1848 to the beginning of the twentieth century. He demonstrates that spiritualist mediums and leaders adopted many of the promotional strategies and spectacular techniques that were being developed for the broader entertainment industry. Spiritualist mediums were indistinguishable from other professional performers, as they had managers and agents, advertised in the press, and used spectacularism to draw audiences. Addressing the overlap between spiritualism’s explosion and nineteenth-century show business, Natale provides an archaeology of how the supernatural became a powerful force in the media and popular culture of today.
Book Synopsis The Pauline Concept of Supernatural Powers by : Kabiro wa Gatumu
Download or read book The Pauline Concept of Supernatural Powers written by Kabiro wa Gatumu and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-02-20 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of supernatural powers is fraught with vexing hermeneutical challenges, which aggravate further in the African context. While on the one hand Western anthropology tends to discount the idea of supernatural powers by attempting to 'explain them away', on the other Western biblical scholarship has mainly worked from the premise of 'demythologizing' them. But none of these approaches make tangible sense to African scholars for whom supernatural powers constitute an integral component of their spiritual psyche. This book, based on an examination of over a thousand documentary sources (both classic and modern), attempts to address the issue of interpreting supernatural powers from an African worldview. The author analyzes, identifies, and critiques major hermeneutical errors and offers a 'bridging hermeneutic' using the method of reader-response criticism.

Download or read book Atheism written by George H. Smith and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2016-07-12 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George H. Smith sets out to demolish what he considers the most widespread and destructive of all the myths devised by human beings - the concept of a supreme being. With painstaking scholarship and rigorous arguments, Mr. Smith examines, dissects, and refutes the myriad "proofs" offered by theists - sophisticated, professional theologians - as well as the average religious layman. He explores the historical and psychological havoc wrought by religion in general and concludes that religious belief cannot have any place in the life of modern, rational man. "It is not my purpose to convert people to atheism . . . (but to) demonstrate that the belief in God is irrational to the point of absurdity. If a person wishes to continue believing in a god, that is his prerogative, but he can no longer excuse his belief in the name of reason and moral necessity."
