Book excerpt: The breakthrough story collection that established A. M. Homes as one of the most daring writers of her generation Originally published in 1990 to wide critical acclaim, this extraordinary first collection of stories by A. M. Homes confronts the real and the surreal on even terms to create a disturbing and sometimes hilarious vision of the American dream. Included here are "Adults Alone," in which a couple drops their kids off at Grandma's and gives themselves over to ten days of Nintendo, porn videos, and crack; "A Real Doll," in which a girl's blond Barbie doll seduces her teenaged brother; and "Looking for Johnny," in which a kidnapped boy, having failed to meet his abductor's expectations, is returned home. These stories, by turns satirical, perverse, unsettling, and utterly believable, expose the dangers of ordinary life even as their characters stay hidden behind the disguises they have so carefully created.
Book Synopsis Mark Pine v. United States by : Mark Pine
Download or read book Mark Pine v. United States written by Mark Pine and published by Mark Pine. This book was released on 2020-08-31 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is taken from blog posts on markpine.com The blog markpine.com was created using the wordpress.com platform. I’m originally from Woodmere, New York. I graduated from Hewlett High School in 1994. I currently live in New York City. I’m a full-time student at CUNY, a licensed New York real estate broker, a web entrepreneur, and marketing professional. People I know pay New York law enforcement to torture me. They injected me in the face and stomach with something that won’t dissolve. This has been confirmed by a doctor. There is no one to report it to besides the public. In my opinion, the FBI and police have little to no oversight. Regardless, I'm not giving up. New York law enforcement and their civilian team viciously harass me every day. They are harassing me right now as I write this. They have me under aggressive 24/7 surveillance. New York law enforcement drugs me several times a day. New York law enforcement has people blow smoke in my face. They also put narcotics into water and throw it on me. New York law enforcement goes into all my school assignments, email accounts, social media accounts, and this book. They add grammar and spelling errors into everything I write. I’m going to spell check this document and do the best I can. I also have a software program I pay extra for that checks everything. If you see an error in this book, the odds are New York law enforcement was spreading a little hate and lies which is their function on this earth. I’m working on creating various startups. My startups are not an investment opportunity. I’m putting my startups on GoFundMe and FundRazr as a crowdfunding in case anyone wants to give. Why would someone give to a crowdfunding and get nothing in return? My answer is because an individual likes what I’m trying to accomplish. The odds are that all my startups will never get off the ground. If my startups do get off the ground, the odds are they will fail. I don’t think I’m being negative, it’s the reality of the situation. My startups are going to be for profit enterprises. I plan on taking salaries and a percentage of the profit if there is any. I want to be 100% clear upfront because I’m an honest person. Also, I’m under 24/7 surveillance by the FBI and NYPD. They can care less about the Bill of Rights, they go into all my accounts, phone, laptop, etc. I don’t have a criminal record. I don’t do anything illegal. People I know pay New York law enforcement to torture me. New York law enforcement has already drugged me a few times today and they have people teasing and harassing me as I write this. If you don’t believe this goes on Google the word COINTELPRO. The US government, FBI, and police were exposed for torturing people decades ago. I’m confirming that they still do it. You can also Google what police officers have been arrested for in the past few years and it will astonish you. Murder, rape, child abuse, drug dealing, etc. Disclaimers: If you have an emergency call 911. Use this information at your own risk. Results are not guaranteed. All information is subject to change. Results are not guaranteed. I’m not a doctor. I’m not a lawyer. Please verify all information yourself. This is not an investment opportunity. I am crowdfunding various projects but they are not an investment opportunity. If you give to my crowdfunding on GoFundMe, FundRazr, Patreon, or any website like that it is a gift, not an investment. I’m planning on financing everything myself. My startups are going to be for-profit enterprises and I will be taking money out of all of them including profits, salaries, etc. If you would like to hear me complain about law enforcement torturing me and talk more specifically about my crowdfunding you can visit me on social media: youtube.com/markpine360 facebook.com/markpine360 instagram.com/markpine360 twitter.com/markpine360 linkedin.com/in/markpine All the info from this book is available for free at markpine.com if you don't want to pay. markpine.com was created using the wordpress.com platform.

Book excerpt: Newly promoted to Detective Inspector, Kathy Kolla of the Serious Crimes Unit is called in by the forensic pathologist regarding the recent sudden death of a London student from what he's determined to be arsenic poisoning. Marion Summers had no reason to be in contact with arsenic and, though once common, arsenic is now very hard to get hold of. The more Kolla investigates, the more she discovers that certain other things about Summers are also unusual. She moved three octobers ago without leaving a forwarding address or informing her relatives. And her step-father has a disquieting past and, after attacking a constable in a pub, a not-so-savory present. With each turn in the investigation, it becomes increasingly clear that behind what really happened—and why—lies the most difficult-to-crack case the team has ever faced.

Book Synopsis Crisis Management in the Food and Drinks Industry: A Practical Approach by : Colin Doeg
Download or read book Crisis Management in the Food and Drinks Industry: A Practical Approach written by Colin Doeg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-18 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few titles could be timelier than the second edition of Crisis Management in the Food and Drinks Industry – A Practical Approach. The world is worrying about a human pandemic arising from the avian flu epidemic that is spreading from the Far East, the implications of which could be as great for the food industry as were the outbreaks of foot and mouth disease and BSE. This practical and greatly expanded edition by media and public relations veteran Colin Doeg focuses on the communications aspects of dealing with a crisis. It is global in its coverage of the subject, reviewing practices and requirements in countries ranging from the USA and the UK to Australia and New Zealand. Doeg offers advice ranging from preparing for the unthinkable to the dramatic expansion of the Internet, avoiding being caught off-guard by a situation, the ramifications of product tampering and managing an actual crisis. Advice is also offered on dealing with extremist organizations and terrorist threats as well as bioterrorism – "a clear and present danger" – and a number of problems facing the food industry, including the practice of selling meat unfit for human consumption and the threat posed by the increasing toxicity of fish due to the rising pollution of the world’s oceans. In a special late chapter – written only three months before publication – the author looks ahead to events which he believes will shape the world of crisis management in the future, including the empowering influence of the Internet during the 2004 Asian Tsunami, the discovery of the illegal dye Sudan 1 (Red) in millions of food products and the fears of a pandemic arising from the spreading outbreak of avian flu. Examples of typical documents like a crisis plan for a business, a crisis checklist, a press release announcing a product recall, an announcement to employees and a checklist for anyone dealing with a threatening phone call are provided. Also included is a list of sources of information and assistance in the event of a product crisis. Crisis Management in the Food and Drinks Industry is the only title dealing specifically with this crucial subject in relation to the food industry. As such, it is relevant not only to those in the food industry, but also to marketing and senior management in general in the fields of agriculture, public health and law enforcement.
