Book excerpt: Wichita ranger Nathan Johnson was shot by the notorious Bruce Cobb and left for dead. With no viable leads, Sheriff Stockton turns to local Lee Rogers, who offers to investigate the beautiful Laura Brooks, whose Native American father, Old Wil, knows the Wichita Mountains inside and out. But Lee gets more than he bargained for in the fiery father and daughter. Soon, his attachment to the pair almost surpasses his love for the Wichitas and one of his favorite mountains, Sunset Peak. Almost. Wil and Laura fall suspect because of their constant presence in the mountains. Lee must decide whether to come clean to the girl he's falling for or keep his secret and possibly realize his dream of remaining in Oklahoma, the land he loves, because he can't have both. When Cobb is spotted in the mountains, the search resumes in full force. The mountains are soon filled with chaos, bloodshed, and secrets only Laura and Wil know. Will Cobb be caught and justice brought to Ranger Johnson? Can Laura trust Lee with the family secret of Sunset Peak?

Book Synopsis Asheville's Albemarle Park by : Stacy A. Merten and Robert O. Sauer
Download or read book Asheville's Albemarle Park written by Stacy A. Merten and Robert O. Sauer and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2014 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Albemarle Park was envisioned as a picturesque mountainside resort in north Asheville. It was a great success due to the collaborative efforts of railroad executive William Greene Raoul and his son Thomas; Bradford Gilbert, architect of New York City's first skyscraper; and Samuel Parsons Jr., landscape architect for the City of New York. The Manor and its surrounding cottages served as an alternative to standard late-19th-century Asheville hotels and boardinghouses. Dances, plays, bowling, archery, golf, motoring, and equestrian events were available for guests to enjoy, and meals were sourced from The Manor's own farm. Notable guests of The Manor included Eleanor Roosevelt and Grace Kelly. It was also a film set for The Last of the Mohicans. Consisting of enchanting architecture and romantic landscaping, Albemarle Park was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and as a local historic district in 1989. Through family archives, private collections, and ephemera, Asheville's Albemarle Park showcases the history of this significant Asheville neighborhood.

Book Synopsis The Rāmāyaṇa of Vālmīki: An Epic of Ancient India, Volume IV by :
Download or read book The Rāmāyaṇa of Vālmīki: An Epic of Ancient India, Volume IV written by and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth volume of a translation of India's most beloved and influential epic tale--the Ramayana of Valmiki. As befits its position at the center of the work, Volume IV presents the hero Rama at the turning point of his fortunes. Having previously lost first his kingship and then his wife, he now forms an alliance with the monkey prince, Sugriva. Rama needs the monkeys to help him find his abducted wife, Sita, and they do finally discover where her abductor has taken her. But first Rama must agree to secure for his new ally the throne of the monkey kingdom by eliminating the reigning king, Sugriva's detested elder brother, Valin. The tragic rivalry between the two monkey brothers is in sharp contrast to Rama's affectionate relationship with his own brothers and forms a self-contained episode within the larger story of Rama's adventures. This volume continues the translation of the critical edition of the Valmiki Ramayana, a version considerably reduced from the vulgate on which all previous translations were based. It is accompanied by extensive notes on the original Sanskrit text and on several untranslated early Sanskrit commentaries.
