Download or read book Life with Grandpa written by Pat Pinsent and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wasnt very happy when Mum told me that Granny and Grandpa were coming to live at our house, which is in a little village in the country. When they lived in a big house near London, we used to go and stay. Granny would cook nice meals, and we used to go up to the middle of London sometimes and visit the London Eye and the zoo or the shops in the West End. But when Grandpa got dementia, Mum said they should come and live at our house as we had a self-contained two-bedroom flat they could live in. She said the last tenants were a nightmare. If Granny and Grandpa were living with us, she could help Granny keep an eye on Grandpa. What with not going to stay with them near London anymore and having extra people in the house, I wasnt really sure that was what I wanted.

I have attempted to truthfully describe life as it was over the past eighty-plus years. I have tried to make our ancestors come to life as real people, experiencing the good and bad in life, as we all do. The Greeks say, “The dead die when those who loved them stop talking about them. As long as they are talked about and loved—they live.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I started writing this journal, I had no intentions anyone else would even see a page of this because it had the worst of my life, and I didn't want anyone I love read it and loose respect in the person I push in public. I'm a very shy and very naive person. I am basically a loner. It is very hard for me to make friends, so I stay home a lot. Not too long ago, even in my old age, I found a very wonderful person that could see into my soul and pull me out. Diane and I have gotten to be the best of friends. Her name is Diane Wilson and she is the most wonderful, loving, caring friend I know! She listens to all my troubles and gives me advise, even though she has more than her share of troubles. She talks and I feel that I do have purpose in life. She is the sister I never had. She has so many problems, but she finds the time to be my best friend. I never liked this town--because the roll the streets up in the evening (well, it does seem like it). There aren't any places to go---nothing to see. Not for the adults--not for the kids. But, my sista-pal texts me and asks if Paul has any coffee left, or we will go out. We call that our gal-pal time. We just go to McD's and have a coke or a frape'and I tell her my troubles and she tells me her troubles. We would talk for ages, and cry in our frepe'. I would like to thank everyone for all the time they have spent making it possible for a shy, scared great grandmother to share her life----such as it is.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early morning rain had stopped and a cool mist shrouded the lonesome mountainside. The smell was fresh and invigorating to me as I stood beside the old hickory tree with its new leaves, an iridescent bright green, glowing against the dreary gray sky. I stood quietly and watched a lone eagle soar above, looking for an unsuspecting prey hidden in the overgrown weeds in the long neglected fields. I had stayed away too long, now, I wanted to return to the source of my childhood.

Grandma was the undisputed head of the family. While his father served on the battleship USS Missouri, his grandparents and mother held the family and the business together. At Grandma’s House is a tribute to everyday Americans who provided the social glue for a country at war as they balanced fear and anxiety for loved ones with the challenges and pleasures of daily life.
