Book Synopsis The Updip Limit of the Smackover Formation in Clarke County, Mississippi by : Benjamin Ross Breland
Download or read book The Updip Limit of the Smackover Formation in Clarke County, Mississippi written by Benjamin Ross Breland and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research was to map and determine the updip limit and locate reservoir potential of the Smackover Formation in southeast-central Mississippi. This subsurface study was conducted using well log correlation and analysis, structure top and isopach thickness mapping, 2-D seismic analysis, and core descriptions. The conclusions from the study led to an alternate interpretation of the Smackover updip limit affected by basement paleotopography in a possible ridge-valley complex similar to south Alabama based on evidence from Smackover isopach thickness, structure top map of a Pre-Smackover surface that represents underlying formations, and 2-D seismic analysis that agreed with the isopach pinch out. Evidence from two core observations from in the updip and downdip area revealed oomoldic porosity and dolomite lithologies with decreasing porosity and connectivity updip. Strong diagenetic features with no visible porosity were present in some core sections. Analysis to determine reservoir-grade porosity updip would be necessary.
Book Synopsis Subsurface and Geophysical Investigation of the Oligocene Frio Formation, South Elton Field, Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana by : Marshall A. Furrh

This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: South Elton Field, located in Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana, consists of complex stratigraphic and structural components. As is the case with many of oil and gas fields located in southern Louisiana, interpreting the subsurface can be difficult due to these features. The most common structural components affecting these areas consist of massive growth fault systems. Growth faults can cause immense variations in bed thicknesses that in turn can lead to many difficulties when interpreting and correlating well logs. Therefore, using only well logs in these areas can sometimes be problematic. However, using well log and seismic data together can greatly improve the accuracy of any subsurface interpretation. Unfortunately, seismic signal responses can also be greatly affected by subsurface variations. This can alter the accuracy of any interpretation even when using tools such as well logs and seismic data. In this area of southern Louisiana, a major unconformity exists that marks the bottom of the Hackberry sequence (a predominately marine shale wedge) called the pre-Hackberry unconformity. This unconformity causes multiple difficulties when interpreting the seismic data below it, especially within the predominant reservoir in this field, called the Homeseekers Sequence. Fortunately, seismic data can be manipulated to help better visualize certain aspects of the seismic responses. One way of doing this is to calculate instantaneous seismic attributes. Seismic attributes such as these can aid the standard amplitude attribute by highlighting packages of seismic events, which in turn can help to map a specific horizon that correlates to a hydrocarbon reservoir of interest. The use of instantaneous seismic attributes and well control over the area allowed for an improved representation of the subsurface in South Elton Field and, most importantly, the Homeseekers reservoir assemblage existing beneath the pre-Hackberry unconformity.
Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1979-11-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 23 (thesis year 1978) a total of 10,148 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 220 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 23 reports these submitted in 1978, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Synopsis Carbonate Reservoir Characterization: A Geologic-Engineering Analysis, Part I by : G.C. Dominguez
Download or read book Carbonate Reservoir Characterization: A Geologic-Engineering Analysis, Part I written by G.C. Dominguez and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-01-17 with total page 659 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book integrates those critical geologic aspects of reservoir formation and occurrence with engineering aspects of reservoirs, and presents a comprehensive treatment of the geometry, porosity and permeability evolution, and producing characteristics of carbonate reservoirs. The three major themes discussed are: • the geometry of carbonate reservoirs and relationship to original depositional facies distributions • the origin and types of porosity and permeability systems in carbonate reservoirs and their relationship to post-depositional diagenesis • the relationship between depositional and diagenetic facies and producing characteristics of carbonate reservoirs, and the synergistic geologic-engineering approach to the exploitation of carbonate reservoirs. The intention of the volume is to fully aquaint professional petroleum geologists and engineers with an integrated geologic and engineering approach to the subject. As such, it presents a unique critical appraisal of the complex parameters that affect the recovery of hydrocarbon resources from carbonate rocks. The book may also be used as a text in petroleum geology and engineering courses at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels.
