Book Synopsis Solid-State NMR III Organic Matter by : Bernhard Blümich
Download or read book Solid-State NMR III Organic Matter written by Bernhard Blümich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid-State NMR is a branch of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance which is presently experiencing a phase of strongly increasing popularity. The most striking evidence is the large number of contributions from Solid-State Resonance atNMR meetings, approaching that ofliquid state resonance. Important progress can be observed in three areas: Methodological developments, applications to inorganic matter, and applications to organic matter. These developments are intented to be captured in three volumes in this series, each of them being devoted to more or less one of these areas. The present volume on Solid-State NMR III is devoted mainly to organic matter. The recent developments of deuteron NMR and their applications are reviewed in the first chapter. Crosspolarization, MAS, and dynamic angle spinning are being explored for enhancement of information and sensitivity. In addition to the analysis of classical relaxation times and modern 2D spectra, detailed dynamic information becomes accessible from investigations of the relaxation time anisotropies. The second chapter examines cross-polarization in static and rotating solids under conditions of spin diffusion and thermal motion. The underlying dipole-dipole interaction is further exploited by the techniques described in the third chapter for studies of polymer-polymer miscibility. Short range techniques are discriminated from long-range techniques based on spin diffusion. The use ofthese techniques is illustrated by a case study ofPMMAJPVF blends. The last chapter addresses novel z methods and applications of two-dimensional exchange NMR for investigations of relative molecular orientations, polymer morphology, molecular dynamics, and macroscopic molecular order.

Download or read book Superlubricity written by Ali Erdemir and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-03-30 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superlubricity is defined as a sliding regime in which friction or resistance to sliding vanishes. It has been shown that energy can be conserved by further reducing/removing friction in moving mechanical systems and this book includes contributions from world-renowned scientists who address some of the most fundamental research issues in overcoming friction. Superlubricity reviews the latest methods and materials in this area of research that are aimed at removing friction in nano-to-micro scale machines and large scale engineering components. Insight is also given into the atomic-scale origins of friction in general and superlubricity while other chapters focus on experimental and practical aspects or impacts of superlubricity that will be very useful for broader industrial community.* Reviews the latest fundamental research in superlubricity today* Presents 'state-of-the-art' methods, materials, and experimental techniques* Latest developments in tribomaterials, coatings, and lubricants providing superlubricity

Book Synopsis Materials Science of Carbides, Nitrides and Borides by : Yury G. Gogotsi
Download or read book Materials Science of Carbides, Nitrides and Borides written by Yury G. Gogotsi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of current research on a wide range of carbide, nitride and boride materials, covering the general issues relevant to the development and characterisation of a variety of advanced materials. Topics include structure and electronic properties, modeling, processing, high-temperature chemistry, oxidation and corrosion, mechanical behaviour, manufacturing and applications. The volume complements more specialised books on specific materials as well as more general texts on ceramics or hard materials, presenting a survey of materials research as a key to technological development. After decades of research, the materials are being used in electronics, wear resistant, refractory and other applications, but numerous new applications are possible. Roughly equal numbers of papers cover theoretical and experimental research in the general field of materials science of refractory materials. Audience: Researchers and graduate students in materials science and engineering.
