Book excerpt: Research in Protozoology is the fourth volume of a series that covers the progress being made in protozoology. This book is comprised of four chapters and begins with a discussion of synchronized cell division in protozoa, including the species Tetrahymena pyriformes, Astasia longa, Plasmodium lophurae, Amoeba proteus and Acanthamoeba sp., and Physarum polycephalum. The following chapters discuss nuclear phenomena during conjugation and the relationship between protozoa and other animals, with emphasis on parasitism, relations between parasite and host groups, and host specificity. The final chapter focuses on chromosomes and nucleoli in some opalinid protozoa. The book is highly recommended for biologists, microbiologists, zoologists, and parasitologists who want to be updated about the developments in the field of protozoology.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Genetics by : Robert C. King
Download or read book Handbook of Genetics written by Robert C. King and published by Springer. This book was released on 1975-01-01 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this and future volumes of the Handbook of Genetics is to bring together a collection of relatively short, authoritative essays or annotated compilations of data on topics of~ignificance to geneticists. Many of the essays will deal with various aspects of the biology of certain species selected because they are favorite subjects for genetic investigation in nature or the laboratory. Often there will be an encyclopedic amount o( information available on such a species, with new papers appearing daily. Most of these will be written for specialists in a jargon that is bewildering to a novice and sometimes even to a veteran geneticist working with evolu tionarily distant organisms. For such readers what is needed is a written introduction to the morphology, life cycle, reproductive behavior, and cul ture methods for the species in question. What are its particular ad vantages (and disadvantages) for genetic study, and what have we learned from it? Where are the classic papers, the key bibliographies, and how or mutant strains? A list giving the sym does one get stocks of wild type bolism for unknown mutations is helpful, but it need include only those mutants that have been retained and are thus available for future studies. Other data, such as up-to-date genetic and cytological maps, listings of break points for chromosomal aberrations, mitotic karyotypes, and hap loid DNA values, will be included when available.

Download or read book Structure and Biological Functions of Histones written by L.S. Hnilica and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book endeavours to present an analysis of the current knowledge of the structure properties and possible functions of histones. The broad scope of this topic prevents the discussion of certain individual aspects in any detail. For this purpose, some of the more specialised review articles should be consulted. However, the present volume will contribute to a more general understanding of histone biochemistry and will provide stimulation, as well as source references, to the student of the cell nucleus and its functions.

Download or read book Heat Shock Response written by Lutz Nover and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-09 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on heat shock response-an active yet transient reprogramming of cellular activities to the needs of a stress protection mechanism designed to minimize heat damage and to optimize restoration of normal cellular activities after the stress period. This work places major emphasis on the structure and possible cellular functions of heat shock proteins as well as the analysis of heat shock protein-coding genes by transfection into homologous and heterologous expression systems. It also discusses heat shock effects on all levels of gene expression, on cell ultrastructure, and metabolic activities. This unique text is a must for all those who are involved with genetics, nucleic acids research, and cancer research.
