Book Synopsis Modern Morphometrics in Physical Anthropology by : Dennis E. Slice
Download or read book Modern Morphometrics in Physical Anthropology written by Dennis E. Slice and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Morphometrics has undergone a revolutionary transformation in the past two decades as new methods have been developed to address shortcomings in the traditional multivirate analysis of linear distances, angles, and indices. While there is much active research in the field, the new approaches to shape analysis are already making significant and ever-increasing contributions to biological research, including physical anthropology. Modern Morphometrics in Physical Anthropology highlights the basic machinery of the most important methods, while introducing novel extensions to these methods and illustrating how they provide enhanced results compared to more traditional approaches. Modern Morphometrics in Physical Anthropology provides a comprehensive sampling of the applications of modern, sophisticated methods of shape analysis in anthropology, and serves as a starting point for the exploration of these practices by students and researchers who might otherwise lack the local expertise or training to get started. This text is an important resource for the general morphometric community that includes ecologists, evolutionary biologists, systematists, and medical researchers.

Download or read book Historical Archaeology in Africa written by Peter Ridgway Schmidt and published by Rowman Altamira. This book was released on 2006 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historical Archaeology in Africa is an inquiry into historical questions that count, proposing different ways of thinking about historical archaeology. Peter Schmidt challenges readers to expand their horizons . Confronting topics of oral traditions, the role of cultural landscapes in social memory, and historical misrepresentations of various cultures, Schmidt calls for a new pathway to an enriched, more nuanced, and more inclusive historical archaeology. Allowing Africa to speak for itself without colonial interpreters, Historical Archaeology in Africa will be of interest not only to historians and archaeologists, but to all concerned with Africa's past and present.
Book Synopsis Microscopie électronique à balayage et microanalyses by : François Brisset
Download or read book Microscopie électronique à balayage et microanalyses written by François Brisset and published by EDP Sciences. This book was released on 2012-12-04 with total page 930 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Human Skeletal Remains by : Douglas H. Ubelaker
Download or read book Human Skeletal Remains written by Douglas H. Ubelaker and published by Aldine De Gruyter. This book was released on 2008 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many anthropologists and even some archeologists have asked, "Why excavate skeletons? What information can we gain to merit the disturbance of human interments?" Human Skeletal Remains answers such questions. Douglas H. Ubelaker demonstrates the range of data and interpretations potentially obtainable from human skeletal remains and shows how this information can contribute to the solution of various anthropological problems. It also describes and evaluates basic techniques of skeletal excavation and analysis. Human Skeletal Remains is divided into two sections. The first section reviews the techniques and information needed for excavating and describing skeletal remains and for achieving reliable estimates of stature, sex, and age at death. These chapters should improve the capacity of non-specialists to undertake skeletal excavation and preliminary analysis. The second section discusses additional kinds of information that can be gleaned from suitable samples by experienced skeletal biologists. The information in Human Skeletal Remains is a broad-scale overview and many aspects have been treated in greater detail by others elsewhere. References are provided in the text for the convenience of those interested in more information on specific topics. Technical terminology has been avoided where possible, but accurate recording and description cannot be accomplished without employing the names of individual bones and other skeletal landmarks. Terms most commonly needed for description are included in a glossary. While it is somewhat modest in its intentions, this analysis provides a clarity that extensive tomes cannot supply.
