Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research project analyzed the factors that influence the survivability of structures located in wildland/urban interface and intermix zones. The purpose of the project was to produce a simple, short checklist fire officers can use to do structure triage during a wildland conflagration. This research employed both historical and action research (a) to identify attributes of land and building that compromise firefighter safety during structure-protection operations, (b) to identify those physical features of a structure and its environs that serve as reliable predictors of structure survivability during wildfire, (c) to assess which survivability predictors are of practical value in performing structure triage, and (d) to develop guidelines that help direct the actions of firefighters undertaking structure protection in scarce-resource situations occasioned by uncontrollable wildland fires.

There are other training opportunities that go into more depth - and we wholly recommend them for those chief officers who will be dealing with these issues on a regular basis.
Book Synopsis The Urban/wildland Interface Fire - Home Owner Safety and Structural Survival by : Mark Burns
Download or read book The Urban/wildland Interface Fire - Home Owner Safety and Structural Survival written by Mark Burns and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem identified was that many fire departments seemed to be overwhelmed by the urban/wildland interface fire problem, especially in regard to protection of residential and other types of structures. Greater amounts of resources were being required to protect the expanded development in the interface areas. Loss of structures of all types during interface fires added immensely to the suppression effort (including costs). The purpose of this study was to research the components for a program with the intent to educate the urban/wildland interface resident or business owner of the practices and procedures appropriate for their personnel fire safety and the survival of their property.
