Book Synopsis Dynamical Systems by : Luis Barreira
Download or read book Dynamical Systems written by Luis Barreira and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of dynamical systems is a broad and active research subject with connections to most parts of mathematics. Dynamical Systems: An Introduction undertakes the difficult task to provide a self-contained and compact introduction. Topics covered include topological, low-dimensional, hyperbolic and symbolic dynamics, as well as a brief introduction to ergodic theory. In particular, the authors consider topological recurrence, topological entropy, homeomorphisms and diffeomorphisms of the circle, Sharkovski's ordering, the Poincaré-Bendixson theory, and the construction of stable manifolds, as well as an introduction to geodesic flows and the study of hyperbolicity (the latter is often absent in a first introduction). Moreover, the authors introduce the basics of symbolic dynamics, the construction of symbolic codings, invariant measures, Poincaré's recurrence theorem and Birkhoff's ergodic theorem. The exposition is mathematically rigorous, concise and direct: all statements (except for some results from other areas) are proven. At the same time, the text illustrates the theory with many examples and 140 exercises of variable levels of difficulty. The only prerequisites are a background in linear algebra, analysis and elementary topology. This is a textbook primarily designed for a one-semester or two-semesters course at the advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate levels. It can also be used for self-study and as a starting point for more advanced topics.
Book Synopsis Dynamical Systems, Graphs, and Algorithms by : George Osipenko
Download or read book Dynamical Systems, Graphs, and Algorithms written by George Osipenko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-10-28 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes a family of algorithms for studying the global structure of systems. By a finite covering of the phase space we construct a directed graph with vertices corresponding to cells of the covering and edges corresponding to admissible transitions. The method is used, among other things, to locate the periodic orbits and the chain recurrent set, to construct the attractors and their basins, to estimate the entropy, and more.

Book Synopsis Differential Dynamical Systems, Revised Edition by : James D. Meiss
Download or read book Differential Dynamical Systems, Revised Edition written by James D. Meiss and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2017-01-24 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential equations are the basis for models of any physical systems that exhibit smooth change. This book combines much of the material found in a traditional course on ordinary differential equations with an introduction to the more modern theory of dynamical systems. Applications of this theory to physics, biology, chemistry, and engineering are shown through examples in such areas as population modeling, fluid dynamics, electronics, and mechanics.? Differential Dynamical Systems begins with coverage of linear systems, including matrix algebra; the focus then shifts to foundational material on nonlinear differential equations, making heavy use of the contraction-mapping theorem. Subsequent chapters deal specifically with dynamical systems concepts?flow, stability, invariant manifolds, the phase plane, bifurcation, chaos, and Hamiltonian dynamics. This new edition contains several important updates and revisions throughout the book. Throughout the book, the author includes exercises to help students develop an analytical and geometrical understanding of dynamics. Many of the exercises and examples are based on applications and some involve computation; an appendix offers simple codes written in Maple?, Mathematica?, and MATLAB? software to give students practice with computation applied to dynamical systems problems.
Book Synopsis Introduction to the Modern Theory of Dynamical Systems by : Anatole Katok
Download or read book Introduction to the Modern Theory of Dynamical Systems written by Anatole Katok and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provided the first self-contained comprehensive exposition of the theory of dynamical systems as a core mathematical discipline closely intertwined with most of the main areas of mathematics. The authors introduce and rigorously develop the theory while providing researchers interested in applications with fundamental tools and paradigms. The book begins with a discussion of several elementary but fundamental examples. These are used to formulate a program for the general study of asymptotic properties and to introduce the principal theoretical concepts and methods. The main theme of the second part of the book is the interplay between local analysis near individual orbits and the global complexity of the orbit structure. The third and fourth parts develop the theories of low-dimensional dynamical systems and hyperbolic dynamical systems in depth. Over 400 systematic exercises are included in the text. The book is aimed at students and researchers in mathematics at all levels from advanced undergraduate up.
Book Synopsis Iterated Maps on the Interval as Dynamical Systems by : Pierre Collet
Download or read book Iterated Maps on the Interval as Dynamical Systems written by Pierre Collet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iterations of continuous maps of an interval to itself serve as the simplest examples of models for dynamical systems. These models present an interesting mathematical structure going far beyond the simple equilibrium solutions one might expect. If, in addition, the dynamical system depends on an experimentally controllable parameter, there is a corresponding mathematical structure revealing a great deal about interrelations between the behavior for different parameter values. This work explains some of the early results of this theory to mathematicians and theoretical physicists, with the additional hope of stimulating experimentalists to look for more of these general phenomena of beautiful regularity, which oftentimes seem to appear near the much less understood chaotic systems. Although continuous maps of an interval to itself seem to have been first introduced to model biological systems, they can be found as models in most natural sciences as well as economics. Iterated Maps on the Interval as Dynamical Systems is a classic reference used widely by researchers and graduate students in mathematics and physics, opening up some new perspectives on the study of dynamical systems .

Book Synopsis Introduction to Hamiltonian Dynamical Systems and the N-Body Problem by : Kenneth R. Meyer
Download or read book Introduction to Hamiltonian Dynamical Systems and the N-Body Problem written by Kenneth R. Meyer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition text provides expanded material on the restricted three body problem and celestial mechanics. With each chapter containing new content, readers are provided with new material on reduction, orbifolds, and the regularization of the Kepler problem, all of which are provided with applications. The previous editions grew out of graduate level courses in mathematics, engineering, and physics given at several different universities. The courses took students who had some background in differential equations and lead them through a systematic grounding in the theory of Hamiltonian mechanics from a dynamical systems point of view. This text provides a mathematical structure of celestial mechanics ideal for beginners, and will be useful to graduate students and researchers alike. Reviews of the second edition: "The primary subject here is the basic theory of Hamiltonian differential equations studied from the perspective of differential dynamical systems. The N-body problem is used as the primary example of a Hamiltonian system, a touchstone for the theory as the authors develop it. This book is intended to support a first course at the graduate level for mathematics and engineering students. ... It is a well-organized and accessible introduction to the subject ... . This is an attractive book ... ." (William J. Satzer, The Mathematical Association of America, March, 2009) “The second edition of this text infuses new mathematical substance and relevance into an already modern classic ... and is sure to excite future generations of readers. ... This outstanding book can be used not only as an introductory course at the graduate level in mathematics, but also as course material for engineering graduate students. ... it is an elegant and invaluable reference for mathematicians and scientists with an interest in classical and celestial mechanics, astrodynamics, physics, biology, and related fields.” (Marian Gidea, Mathematical Reviews, Issue 2010 d)

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Dynamical Systems Of Mathematical Physics: Spectral And Symplectic Integrability Analysis by : Denis Blackmore
Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems Of Mathematical Physics: Spectral And Symplectic Integrability Analysis written by Denis Blackmore and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011-03-04 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This distinctive volume presents a clear, rigorous grounding in modern nonlinear integrable dynamics theory and applications in mathematical physics, and an introduction to timely leading-edge developments in the field — including some innovations by the authors themselves — that have not appeared in any other book. The exposition begins with an introduction to modern integrable dynamical systems theory, treating such topics as Liouville-Arnold and Mischenko-Fomenko integrability. This sets the stage for such topics as new formulations of the gradient-holonomic algorithm for Lax integrability, novel treatments of classical integration by quadratures, Lie-algebraic characterizations of integrability, and recent results on tensor Poisson structures. Of particular note is the development via spectral reduction of a generalized de Rham-Hodge theory, related to Delsarte-Lions operators, leading to new Chern type classes useful for integrability analysis. Also included are elements of quantum mathematics along with applications to Whitham systems, gauge theories, hadronic string models, and a supplement on fundamental differential-geometric concepts making this volume essentially self-contained.This book is ideal as a reference and guide to new directions in research for advanced students and researchers interested in the modern theory and applications of integrable (especially infinite-dimensional) dynamical systems.
