Download or read book Structurally Unstable Quadratic Vector Fields of Codimension One written by Joan C. Artés and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-28 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originating from research in the qualitative theory of ordinary differential equations, this book follows the authors’ work on structurally stable planar quadratic polynomial differential systems. In the present work the authors aim at finding all possible phase portraits in the Poincaré disc, modulo limit cycles, of planar quadratic polynomial differential systems manifesting the simplest level of structural instability. They prove that there are at most 211 and at least 204 of them.

Also included are excellent reviews of several classic books and articles published prior to 1970. Among those reviews, for example, are the following: Homological Algebra by Henri Cartan and Samuel Eilenberg, reviewed by G. Hochschild; Faisceaux algebriques coherents by Jean-Pierre Serre, reviewed by C. Chevalley; and On the Theory of General Partial Differential Operators by Lars Hormander, reviewed by J. L. Lions. In particular, those seeking information on current developments outside their own area of expertise will find the volume very useful. By identifying some of the best publications, papers, and books that have had or are expected to have a significant impact in applied and pure mathematics, this volume will serve as a comprehensive guide to important new research across all fields covered by MR.
Book Synopsis Qualitative Theory of Planar Differential Systems by : Freddy Dumortier
Download or read book Qualitative Theory of Planar Differential Systems written by Freddy Dumortier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-10-13 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with systems of polynomial autonomous ordinary differential equations in two real variables. The emphasis is mainly qualitative, although attention is also given to more algebraic aspects as a thorough study of the center/focus problem and recent results on integrability. In the last two chapters the performant software tool P4 is introduced. From the start, differential systems are represented by vector fields enabling, in full strength, a dynamical systems approach. All essential notions, including invariant manifolds, normal forms, desingularization of singularities, index theory and limit cycles, are introduced and the main results are proved for smooth systems with the necessary specifications for analytic and polynomial systems.

Book Synopsis Geometric Configurations of Singularities of Planar Polynomial Differential Systems by : Joan C. Artés
Download or read book Geometric Configurations of Singularities of Planar Polynomial Differential Systems written by Joan C. Artés and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-19 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the global study of finite and infinite singularities of planar polynomial differential systems, with special emphasis on quadratic systems. While results covering the degenerate cases of singularities of quadratic systems have been published elsewhere, the proofs for the remaining harder cases were lengthier. This book covers all cases, with half of the content focusing on the last non-degenerate ones. The book contains the complete bifurcation diagram, in the 12-parameter space, of global geometrical configurations of singularities of quadratic systems. The authors’ results provide - for the first time - global information on all singularities of quadratic systems in invariant form and their bifurcations. In addition, a link to a very helpful software package is included. With the help of this software, the study of the algebraic bifurcations becomes much more efficient and less time-consuming. Given its scope, the book will appeal to specialists on polynomial differential systems, pure and applied mathematicians who need to study bifurcation diagrams of families of such systems, Ph.D. students, and postdoctoral fellows.
Book Synopsis Global Structural Stability of Flows on Open Surfaces by : Janina Kotus
Download or read book Global Structural Stability of Flows on Open Surfaces written by Janina Kotus and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1982 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph considers structural stability on open 2-manifolds in the [italic]C[superscript italic]r-Whitney topology. The statements of the theorems in this monograph are analogous to the statements of Peixoto's theorem for compact 2-manifolds. However, to obtain the proofs of these results for the noncompact case the authors provide a large measure of original mathematics.
Book Synopsis Bifurcations of Planar Vector Fields and Hilbert's Sixteenth Problem by : Robert Roussarie
Download or read book Bifurcations of Planar Vector Fields and Hilbert's Sixteenth Problem written by Robert Roussarie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a coherent, exhaustive and progressive way, this book presents the tools for studying local bifurcations of limit cycles in families of planar vector fields. A systematic introduction is given to such methods as division of an analytic family of functions in its ideal of coefficients, and asymptotic expansion of non-differentiable return maps and desingularisation. The exposition moves from classical analytic geometric methods applied to regular limit periodic sets to more recent tools for singular limit sets. The methods can be applied to theoretical problems such as Hilbert's 16th problem, but also for the purpose of establishing bifurcation diagrams of specific families as well as explicit computations. - - - The book as a whole is a well-balanced exposition that can be recommended to all those who want to gain a thorough understanding and proficiency in the recently developed methods. The book, reflecting the current state of the art, can also be used for teaching special courses. (Mathematical Reviews)

Book Synopsis Rational $S^1$-Equivariant Stable Homotopy Theory by : John Patrick Campbell Greenlees
Download or read book Rational $S^1$-Equivariant Stable Homotopy Theory written by John Patrick Campbell Greenlees and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The memoir presents a systematic study of rational S1-equivariant cohomology theories, and a complete algebraic model for them. It provides a classification of such cohomology theories in simple algebraic terms and a practical means of calculation. The power of the model is illustrated by analysis of the Segal conjecture, the behaviour of the Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence, the structure of S1-equivariant K-theory, and the rational behaviour of cyclotomic spectra and the topological cyclic homology construction.
Book Synopsis Annihilating Fields of Standard Modules of $\mathfrak {sl}(2, \mathbb {C})^\sim $ and Combinatorial Identities by : Arne Meurman
Download or read book Annihilating Fields of Standard Modules of $\mathfrak {sl}(2, \mathbb {C})^\sim $ and Combinatorial Identities written by Arne Meurman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, the authors show that a set of local admissible fields generates a vertex algebra. For an affine Lie algebra $\tilde{\frak g}$, they construct the corresponding level $k$ vertex operator algebra and show that level $k$ highest weight $\tilde{\frak g}$-modules are modules for this vertex operator algebra. They determine the set of annihilating fields of level $k$ standard modules and study the corresponding loop $\tilde{\frak g}$-module--the set of relations that defines standard modules. In the case when $\tilde{\frak g}$ is of type $A{(1)} 1$, they construct bases of standard modules parameterized by colored partitions, and as a consequence, obtain a series of Rogers-Ramanujan type combinatorial identities.

Download or read book Special Groups written by M. A. Dickmann and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a systematic study of Special Groups, a first-order universal-existential axiomatization of the theory of quadratic forms, which comprises the usual theory over fields of characteristic different from 2, and is dual to the theory of abstract order spaces. The heart of our theory begins in Chapter 4 with the result that Boolean algebras have a natural structure of reduced special group. More deeply, every such group is canonically and functorially embedded in a certain Boolean algebra, its Boolean hull. This hull contains a wealth of information about the structure of the given special group, and much of the later work consists in unveiling it. Thus, in Chapter 7 we introduce two series of invariants "living" in the Boolean hull, which characterize the isometry of forms in any reduced special group. While the multiplicative series--expressed in terms of meet and symmetric difference--constitutes a Boolean version of the Stiefel-Whitney invariants, the additive series--expressed in terms of meet and join--, which we call Horn-Tarski invariants, does not have a known analog in the field case; however, the latter have a considerably more regular behaviour. We give explicit formulas connecting both series, and compute explicitly the invariants for Pfister forms and their linear combinations. In Chapter 9 we combine Boolean-theoretic methods with techniques from Galois cohomology and a result of Voevodsky to obtain an affirmative solution to a long standing conjecture of Marshall concerning quadratic forms over formally real Pythagorean fields. Boolean methods are put to work in Chapter 10 to obtain information about categories of special groups, reduced or not. And again in Chapter 11 to initiate the model-theoretic study of the first-order theory of reduced special groups, where, amongst other things we determine its model-companion. The first-order approach is also present in the study of some outstanding classes of morphisms carried out in Chapter 5, e.g., the pure embeddings of special groups. Chapter 6 is devoted to the study of special groups of continuous functions.
Book Synopsis Controllability, Stabilization, and the Regulator Problem for Random Differential Systems by : Russell Johnson
Download or read book Controllability, Stabilization, and the Regulator Problem for Random Differential Systems written by Russell Johnson and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume develops a systematic study of time-dependent control processes. The basic problem of null controllability of linear systems is first considered. Using methods of ergodic theory and topological dynamics, general local null controllability criteria are given. Then the subtle question of global null controllability is studied. Next, the random linear feedback and stabilization problem is posed and solved. Using concepts of exponential dichotomy and rotation number for linear Hamiltonian systems, a solution of the Riccati equation is obtained which has extremely good robustness properties and which also preserves all the smoothness and recurrence properties of the coefficients. Finally, a general version of the local nonlinear feedback stabilization problem is solved.
