Book Synopsis Structural Wood Detailing in CAD Format by : Kamil A. Zayat
Download or read book Structural Wood Detailing in CAD Format written by Kamil A. Zayat and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Wood Detailing in CAD Format is a reference library for wood building construction. Engineers, architects, and contractors will find the book useful for daily use and practice. It provides structural details for building, which is a major factor in building design. Using a library of standard details saves much of the engineering time and money which was spent drawing the same details many times. This structural wood detailing book covers the two most important forces: vertical and lateral forces. For each detail the lateral resistance was carefully considered. The details have been created using professional experience to maintain economical construction costs and to create safe buildings. The book is divided into three major sections -ROOF, FLOOR, and FOUNDATION. The details in each chapter are further categorized by connections. For example, in the ROOF chapter there is a set of details for rafters connected to shear walls, another set for beams connected to posts or columns, and another set for hips connected to ridge beams. This method of dividing the chapters helps the user to become easily familiar with this reference book. Some of the details are combinations of wood and steel, or wood and masonry, or wood and wood. We have provided each detail on an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet. Each sheet contains the drawing itself, a description of the detail, a check list which summarizes the detail, and a small plan view which suggests the location on the structural drawing where the detail can be applied.

Book Synopsis Structure As Architecture by : Andrew Charleson
Download or read book Structure As Architecture written by Andrew Charleson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-07-11 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structure as Architecture presents a comprehensive analysis of the indispensable role of structure in architecture. An exploration, as well as a celebration, of structure, the book draws on a series of design studies and case study examples to illustrate how structure can be employed to realize a wide range of concepts in contemporary architecture. By examining design principles that relate to both architecture and structural engineering, Andrew Charleson provides new insights into the relationship between both the technical and aesthetic aspects of architecture. Now in its second edition, the text has been extensively revised and updated throughout. Features include: A brand new chapter on hidden structure, adding to the material on exposed structures Two new chapters on using structure to realise common architectural concepts through a combination of precedents and creative design Over 50 new case studies from across the globe Easy-to-understand diagrams and a highly visual design to aid understanding and accessibility More than two hundred case studies of contemporary buildings from countries such as the UK, the US, France, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, Australia and Japan illustrate how a thorough integration of structure adds layers of richness and enhances the realisation of architectural design concepts.
Book Synopsis Concrete Structures in Earthquake by : Thomas T. C. Hsu
Download or read book Concrete Structures in Earthquake written by Thomas T. C. Hsu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers 23 papers by top experts from 11 countries, presented at the 3rd Houston International Forum: Concrete Structures in Earthquake. Designing infrastructures to resist earthquakes has always been the focus and mission of scientists and engineers located in tectonically active regions, especially around the “Pacific Rim of Fire” including China, Japan, and the USA. The pace of research and innovation has accelerated in the past three decades, reflecting the need to mitigate the risk of severe damage to interconnected infrastructures, and to facilitate the incorporation of high-speed computers and the internet. The respective papers focus on the design and analysis of concrete structures subjected to earthquakes, advance the state of knowledge in disaster mitigation, and address the safety of infrastructures in general.

Book Synopsis Elements of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics by : André Filiatrault
Download or read book Elements of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics written by André Filiatrault and published by Presses inter Polytechnique. This book was released on 2002 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earthquake engineering is the ultimate challenge for structural engineers. Even if natural phenomena such as earthquakes involve great uncertainties, structural engineers need to design buildings, bridges, and dams capable of resisting the destructive forces produced by earthquakes. However, structural engineers must rely on the expertise of other specialists to realize these projects. Thus, this book not only focuses on structural analysis and design, but also discusses other disciplines, such as geology, seismology, and soil dynamics, providing basic knowledge in these areas so that structural engineers can better interact with different specialists when working on earthquake engineering projects."

This book was released on 2009-03-30 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proper treatment of structural behavior under severe loading - such as the performance of a high-rise building during an earthquake - relies heavily on the use of probability-based analysis and decision-making tools. Proper application of these tools is significantly enhanced by a thorough understanding of the underlying theoretical and computation

Book Synopsis Integrated Life Cycle Design of Structures by : Asko Sarja
Download or read book Integrated Life Cycle Design of Structures written by Asko Sarja and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally the process of design has concentrated on the construction phase itself, with the primary objective being to optimise efficiency and minimise costs during development and construction. With the move towards a more sustainable development comes the need for this short-term approach to be expanded to encompass the entire service life of the structure. This book describes how to optimise the service life of structures, through an optimum integrated life cycle design process. Sustainability and material performance issues are detailed. Integrated Life Cycle Design of Structures provides a comprehensive account of this rapidly emerging field. It is essential reading for civil and structural engineers, designers, architects, contractors, and clients.
