This book was released on 1988 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A final pulse of clastic sedimentation on the Borden Delta is represented by the Wildie Member of the Borden Formation (Mississippian) in southeast-central Kentucky. The Wildie is a thin, locally restricted unit that is bounded by glauconite beds which define the final extent and geometry of the Borden Delta. The Wildie consists of resistant coarse siltstone beds alternating with beds of bioturbated mudstone. Bedding structures within the Wildie include planar stratification, ripple cross-laminae, and hummocky cross-stratification. Trace fossils of the Cruziana ichnofacies, including Planolites, Paleophycus, Chondrites, Monocraterion and Cylindrichnus, are exhibited in the Wildie siltstone and mudstone beds.

Download or read book Mineralogy, Lithostratigraphy, and Depositional History of the Borden Formation (Mississippian) in Central Kentucky written by Michael W. Kelley and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Qualitative and semi-quantitative X-ray diffraction analyses of the non-clay minerals in the shales and siltstones of the Borden Formation (Mississippian) in central Kentucky was completed to determine correlations between mineralogic, lithostratigraphic and depositional environment information. Six outcrops were studied to construct three complete composite vertical sections of the Borden Formation from three separate locations in central Kentucky. A detailed analyses of depositional environments, lithology and stratigraphy was completed for each of the three locations to provide a basis for mineralogic comparisons. Corrrelations identify the changing relationships between mineralogy, lithostratigraphy and depositional environments during progradation of the deltaic sequence across the study area which formed the Borden Formation. Similar depositional environments tended to yield similar overall lithologies for individual members and beds of the Borden Formation. Units with similar depositional environments and lithologies tended to have similar mineralogies. However, units with similar mineralogies did not necessarily have similar depositional environments and lithologies. Most members and beds of the Borden Formation with similar lithologies had different mineralogies. A direct correlation between depositional environment and the overall mineralogies of the members and beds of the Borden Formation in the three study areas was not apparent.

Book Synopsis Petrology and Stratigraphic Relations of the Renfro Member of the Borden Formation (Mississippian) in Southeast-central Kentucky by : Anthony Wayne Sanders
Download or read book Petrology and Stratigraphic Relations of the Renfro Member of the Borden Formation (Mississippian) in Southeast-central Kentucky written by Anthony Wayne Sanders and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Renfro interval is underlain by a thick sequence of prodeltaic clastics of the Borden Formation and is overlain by the St. Louis Limestone. Three distinctive units within the Renfro can be correlated throughout the study area. The distribution of these units and the facies previously noted indicate that the Renfro interval was deposited on a broad shallow shelf that deepened toward the southwest. Correlation of these units also indicates that the Renfro interval includes equivalents of the Muldraugh Member of the Borden Formation, Salem and Warsaw Formation, and the St. Louis Limestone.
