Download or read book Storm Warrior written by Mahesh Chavda and published by Chosen Books. This book was released on 2008-02-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus's authority over evil was revealed through the many signs and wonders he performed and through his victory over death. Mahesh and Bonnie Chavda believe that Christians today can experience the same victory since Jesus commissioned his disciples to spread the gospel and advance the kingdom with power. In Storm Warrior, the Chavdas equip believers to do battle with the enemies of God. They lead readers through biblical teaching about binding and loosing and into the realm of victory over the kingdom of darkness through signs and wonders. They offer prophetic insight into the Scriptures and share personal stories, showing readers how they too can walk in the power of God through all the circumstances of their lives.

Book Synopsis T&T Clark Handbook of Asian American Biblical Hermeneutics by : Uriah Y. Kim
Download or read book T&T Clark Handbook of Asian American Biblical Hermeneutics written by Uriah Y. Kim and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first reference resource on how Asian Americans are currently reading and interpreting the Bible, this volume also serves a valuable role in both developing and disseminating what can be termed as Asian American biblical hermeneutics. The volume works from the important background that Asian Americans are the fastest growing ethnic/racial minority population in the USA, and that 42% of this group identifies as Christian. This provides a useful starting point from which to examine what may be distinctive about Asian American approaches to the Bible. Part 1 of the Handbook describes six major ethic groups that make up 85% of Asian population (by country of origin: China, Philippines, Indian Subcontinent, Vietnam, Korea, Japan) and outlines the specific concerns each group has when its members read the Bible. Part 2 of the Handbook examines major critical methods in biblical interpretation and suggests adjustments that may be helpful for Asian Americans to make when they are interpreting the Bible. Finally, Part 3 provides 25 interpretations by Asian American biblical scholars on specific texts in the Bible, using what they consider to be Asian American hermeneutics. Taken together the Handbook interprets the Bible both with and for the Asian American communities.
Book Synopsis Mixing Metaphors by : Sarah J. Dille
Download or read book Mixing Metaphors written by Sarah J. Dille and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2004-07-01 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While most treatments of biblical metaphor examine individual metaphors in isolation, Sarah J. Dille presents a model for interpretation based on their interaction with one another. Using Lakoff and Johnson's category of "metaphoric coherence", she argues that when nonconsistent or contradictory metaphors appear together in a literary unit, the areas of overlap (coherence) are highlighted in each. Using the images of father and mother in Deutero-Isaiah as a starting point, she explores how these images interact with others: for example, the divine warrior, the redeeming kinsman, the artisan of clay, or the husband. The juxtaposition of diverse metaphors (common in Hebrew prophetic literature) highlights common "entailments", enabling the reader to see aspects of the image which would be overlooked or invisible if read in isolation. Dille argues that any metaphor for God can only be understood if it is read or heard in interaction with others within a particular cultural context.

Book Synopsis Divine Anger in the Hebrew Bible by : Deena E. Grant
Download or read book Divine Anger in the Hebrew Bible written by Deena E. Grant and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we explore the aim, expressions and outcomes of God’s anger in the Hebrew Bible. We consider divine anger against the backdrop of human anger in order to discern those aspects of it that are recognizably human from those facets of it that are distinctly divine. Furthermore, we examine passages from a range of literary contexts across major biblical collections in order to distinguish those features of divine anger that are elemental to its definition from those that are limited to individual collections. The sum of these conclusions forms our answer to the question: What does the Bible mean when it describes God as angry?

Book Synopsis The Harps that Once-- by : Thorkild Jacobsen
Download or read book The Harps that Once-- written by Thorkild Jacobsen and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sumerian, the oldest language known, is represented by hundreds of thousands of clay tablets inscribed in the cuneiform writing system. Most of the tablets are devoted to mundane matters- ration lists, annual accounts, deeds, contracts- but a substantial number contain examples of perhaps the earliest poetry extant. In this volume, the eminent Assyriologist Thorkild Jacobsen presents translations of some of these ancient poems, including a number of compositions that have never before been published in translation. "What a wonderful bouquet; a gift to us all from a master Sumeriologist, a singer of human achievement, and a lover of words. Jacobsen needs no introduction and this work is special, and should be found in the home of all human and literate persons. It gives access to the mind of ancient Mesopotamia in a manner rarely duplicated heretofore ... Jacobsen has chosen widely from Sumer's rich literature- myth, epics, hymns, boasts, epithalamia, love songs, lamentations, fables- nad has presented us with perspective renderings". Jack M. Sasson, Religious Studies Review.
