This book was released on 2019-02-09 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's better than a good story? A story with a message! Being an educator is hard work, and it's easy to doubt whether we're making a difference in the lives of our students. In Stories of EduInfluence, veteran educator Brent Coley shares stories from more than two decades in the classroom and front office, stories illustrating the life-changing power we possess. In each chapter, Brent transparently recalls experiences as a classroom teacher and site administrator, from humble successes to epic failures. These stories focus on the unique powers every educator possesses, powers that comprise what Brent calls EduInfluence. Each power is centered on a particular belief that, if embraced, can transform one's practice. Chapters end with reflection questions to help readers take what they've read and apply it in their own classrooms, offices or at home with their own kids. If you have ever become discouraged and asked yourself, "Am I making a difference?" this book is for you. If you're looking for encouragement and inspiration conveyed through stories that will make you smile, laugh, and even cry, this book is for you. Because you do make a difference, every single day, even when you don't realize it! "The origins of education can be traced back to master storytellers. Every educator has a story, and the wisdom that lives in these stories can make us better for the children we serve. Author Brent Coley offers us the opportunity to engage with real stories that have real substance for real educators. He takes the reader on a powerful journey, all the while offering questions and prompts for our learning and reflection. Coley's Stories of EduInfluence is a must-read for teachers and school leaders alike who value the shared wisdom and experience storytelling offers us." - Weston Kieschnick, Senior Fellow for International Center for Leadership in Education and Bestselling Author of Bold School "Brent Coley's Stories of EduInfluence is an opportunity to be inspired. Stories are indeed the focus, but these are stories that direct us to see what we do in new ways, to re-evaluate what's important in our work, and to remember that what we say and do can make a life-changing difference for children. While Coley's classroom experience (and most of his stories) center on elementary students, there is something in every chapter to speak to teachers of all ages. This is a great gathering of discussion prompts, and a strong addition to any school's PD library." - Rushton Hurley, Executive Director of Next Vista for Learning and Author of Making Your Teaching Something Special and Making Your School Something Special "As educators, we are tasked with so many different roles, that we often forget one of the most important-influencer. In Stories of EduInfluence, Brent reminds us of the powerful impact we have on those around us. Chock-full of stories from the heart and practical examples, this is a must-read for anyone in the field of education." - Cori Orlando, Teacher, Blogger, and Presenter "I wish this book on every educator. It is finally time for the pendulum to swing back in this direction-Brent reminds us all that schools run on relationships, and that we each have more EduInfluence than we may imagine." - John Eick, Executive Director of Westlake Charter School

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Endorsed by John Hattie: "Bold School...needs to be an essential part of every educator's toolbox." Technology is awesome. Teachers are better. Blending new technologies into instruction is a non-negotiable if we are to help our students gain the skills they'll need to thrive in careers. And so too is educators' old school wisdom in planning intentional blended learning that works. Too often, sincere enthusiasm for technologies pushes proven instructional strategies to the wayside, all but guaranteeing blended learning that is all show and no go. Bold School is a book that restores teachers to their rightful place in effective instruction. Bold School thinkers embrace Blended pedagogies and Old school wisdom. In Bold School, teachers are put back into the blended learning equation. Blended learning is demystified and distilled into the powerful, yet simple Bold School Framework for Strategic Blended Learning(TM)--a methodology to help you meld purposeful technology use with your old school wisdom to enhance instruction and learning. After all, the goal of blended learning isn't technology--it's student achievement. With a Bold School mindset, every teacher is capable of finally delivering on the promise of blended learning.

Book Synopsis Sol Plaatje's Native Life in South Africa by : Janet Remmington
Download or read book Sol Plaatje's Native Life in South Africa written by Janet Remmington and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2016-10-01 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sheds new light on Native Life appearing at a critical historical juncture, and reflects on how to read it in South Africa’s heightened challenges today. First published in 1916, Sol Plaatje's Native Life in South Africa was written by one of the South Africa's most talented early twentieth-century black leaders and journalists. Plaatje's pioneering book arose out of an early African National Congress campaign to protest against the discriminatory 1913 Natives Land Act. Native Life vividly narrates Plaatje's investigative journeying into South Africa's rural heartlands to report on the effects of the Act and his involvement in the deputation to the British imperial government. At the same time it tells the bigger story of the assault on black rights and opportunities in the newly consolidated Union of South Africa - and the resistance to it. Originally published in war-time London, but about South Africa and its place in the world, Native Life travelled far and wide, being distributed in the United States under the auspices of prominent African-American W E B Du Bois. South African editions were to follow only in the late apartheid period and beyond. The aim of this multi-authored volume is to shed new light on how and why Native Life came into being at a critical historical juncture, and to reflect on how it can be read in relation to South Africa's heightened challenges today. Crucial areas that come under the spotlight in this collection include land, race, history, mobility, belonging, war, the press, law, literature, language, gender, politics, and the state.
