Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some Warlocks excel at brewing up trouble. Magic, Mischief, and Kilts! A modern-day Scottish paranormal romance by NYT Bestselling Author Michelle M. Pillow. When Scottish Warlock Fergus MacGregor is around their new neighbor Donna Montgomery, he feels something he hasn't felt for a long time. He is still holding on to the memory of his first love who died centuries ago. He's tried everything to bring Elspeth back from the dead. None of his magic spells, potions, sorcery or incantations have worked. His family thinks it's time he moves on. Is fate giving him a second chance at love, or will falling for Donna stir a powerful supernatural force that intends to cause nothing but trouble? From the Highlands of Scotland to the valleys of Wisconsin... Book Three of the Warlocks MacGregor® series by NY Times and USA TODAY Bestselling Author, Michelle M. Pillow. This is a novella length story. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ About the Warlocks MacGregor® Series People know magic is fake--card tricks and illusions, magicians and entertainers. But there is an older magick, a powerful force hidden from modern eyes, buried in folklore and myths, remembered by the few who practice the old ways and respect the lessons of past generations. The term "warlock" is a variation on the Old English word waerloga, primarily used by the Scots. It meant traitor, monster or deceiver. This fiction-based family includes males and females of magick. The MacGregors do not agree with how history has labeled them, or other supernaturals. To them, warlock means magick, family, and immortality. This series is not a portrayal of modern-day witchcraft or those who hold such beliefs. The MacGregors are a magickal class all their own. Warning: Contains yummy, hot, mischievous MacGregors who may or may not be wearing clothing and who are almost certainly up to no good on their quest to find true love. Praise For Stirring Up Trouble 5 Stars! "Author Michelle M Pillow never fails to entertain - especially with this series. It is another rollicking good time with the MacGregor clan - a clan of ancient warlocks." Kathy Brenzi, Bookbub (2021) 5 Stars! "The Scottish shenanigans are back again with this book and they will have you rolling on the floor laughing. Well when you aren’t shedding tears for lost love and new love that seems lost already." Sydneyn06 Bookbub (2020) 5 Stars! "The next in this engaging series about modern day Scottish warlocks. ... Settle down for a great mixture of fantasy, magic, mischief, adventure and hot romance." Book excerpt: It’s a surprise twist for an adventuresome author when sparks fly in the Blue Ridge Mountains in this romance novel by the USA Today bestselling author. Romance author Sloane Russo turned a decade of whimsical travel into a career writing steamy novels set in exotic places. Now she needs to take a temporary job in the Blue Ridge Mountains to bankroll her next far-flung adventure. But tutoring thirteen-year-old Bree comes with a seriously distracting temptation: Bree’s half-brother is hot, handsome, and oh-so-hard-headed. Gavin Carmichael isn't some impulsive Don Juan like the men in Sloane's novels. Working hard to raise Bree on his own, he acts like he's never even heard of fun. But behind his gruff exterior is a broken heart that longs for something more. Sloane is way too unpredictable to be his idea of a good tutor, but the sexy anti-nanny may be his perfect match.

Book excerpt: The present volume is based on a conference held in October 2019 at the Faculty of Theology of Humboldt University Berlin as part of a common project of the Australian Catholic University, the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Humboldt University Berlin. The aim is to discuss the relationships of “Jews” and “Christians” in the first two centuries CE against the background of recent debates which have called into question the image of “parting ways” for a description of the relationships of Judaism and Christianity in antiquity. One objection raised against this metaphor is that it accentuates differences at the expense of commonalities. Another critique is that this image looks from a later perspective at historical developments which can hardly be grasped with such a metaphor. It is more likely that distinctions between Jews, Christians, Jewish Christians, Christian Jews etc. are more blurred than the image of “parting ways” allows. In light of these considerations the contributions in this volume discuss the cogency of the “parting of the ways”-model with a look at prominent early Christian writers and places and suggest more appropriate metaphors to describe the relationships of Jews and Christians in the early period.

Book excerpt: The three decades after the end of World War II saw the rise and fall of a particular version of liberalism in which the state committed itself to promoting a modest form of economic egalitarianism while simultaneously embracing ethnic, racial, and religious pluralism. But by the mid-1970s, postwar liberalism was in a shambles: while its commitment to pluralism remained, its economic policies had been abandoned, and the Democratic Party, its primary political vehicle, was collapsing. Schiller attributes this demise to the legal architecture of postwar liberalism, arguing that postwar liberalism's goals of advancing economic egalitarianism and promoting pluralism ultimately conflicted with each other. Through the use of specific historical examples, Schiller demonstrates that postwar liberalism was riddled with legal and institutional contradictions that undermined progressive politics in the mid-twentieth-century United States.

Book excerpt: Many people have fond memories of Friday nights and Saturday afternoons spent in theatres watching cowboy stars of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s chase villains across the silver screen or help a heroine out of harm's way. Over 2,600 Westerns were produced between 1930 and 1955 and they became a defining part of American culture. This work focuses on the idea that Westerns were one of the vehicles by which viewers learned the values and norms of a wide range of social relationships and behavior, and thus examines the ways in which Western movies reflected American life and culture during this quarter century. Chapters discuss such topics as the ways that Westerns included current events in film plot and dialogue, reinforced the role of Christianity in American culture, reflected the emergence of a strong central government, and mirrored attitudes toward private enterprise. Also covered is how Westerns represented racial minorities, women, and Indians.

Alice Fairley, her friends and her family are surprised to find themselves so unprepared for peacetime. In a way, it's like starting all over again: all the things one was confident about have disappeared or changed shape somehow, while things which were acceptable, or even pleasant, now seem different, dull, irksome. Noisy whispers of spy-rings and foreign conspiracies provoke shockwaves of malice and stinging intolerance. The world has grown up. Quickly, they discover that the battle is not over yet . . . persistent spectres of duty and guilt pick their victims indiscriminately.

Book excerpt: Often cited as perhaps the best-known Mahayana Buddhist sutra, the Heart Sutra has been chanted daily in Buddhist monasteries in Asia for more than a thousand years. This sutra, the “heart” of the larger Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Wisdom) Sutra, describes the experience of the liberation of the bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokiteśvara, through the insight gained from deep meditation into the fundamental emptiness of all phenomena. With commentary by the Tripitaka Master Hsuan Hua, one of the foremost Tripitaka and Chan masters of Chinese Buddhism in the United States. Translated by Ronald Epstein, PhD.
