Book excerpt: This statistical review is composed of three main sections. The first section deals with the Gulf Region work force. The fisheries work force is defined essentially by the number of fishermen, vessels, buyers and processors operating in this region. Also included is information on fishermen's income, and public investment by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency in the processing sector of the fishing industry. The second section deals with access to the resource. The Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans controls factors such as licences, gear type and vessel length, to protect and conserve the various species of marine life found in the Gulf Region. The last section includes the value and quantity of landings in the Gulf Region from 1986 to 1992.These figures represent the landings recorded in specific areas regardless of the vessels' homeports. The 1992 figures for the landings are preliminary.

Book Synopsis Citizens of the World by : Margit Warburg
Download or read book Citizens of the World written by Margit Warburg and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Citizens of the World deals with the Baha’is and their religion. While covering the historical development in sufficient detail to serve as a general monograph on Baha’i, emphasis is laid on examining contemporary Baha’i, with the Danish Baha’i community as a recurrent case. The book discusses Baha’i religious texts, rituals, economy, everyday life, demographic development, mission strategies, leadership, and international activism in analyses based on primary material, such as interview studies among the Baha’is, fieldwork data from the Baha’i World Centre in Israel, and field trips around the world. The approach is a combination of history of religions and sociology of religion within a theoretical framework of religion and globalisation. Several general topics in the study of new religions are covered. The book contributes to the theoretical study of globalisation by proposing a new model for analysing globalisation and transnational religions.
Book Synopsis Contemporary Experimental Design, Multivariate Analysis and Data Mining by : Jianqing Fan
Download or read book Contemporary Experimental Design, Multivariate Analysis and Data Mining written by Jianqing Fan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-22 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection and analysis of data play an important role in many fields of science and technology, such as computational biology, quantitative finance, information engineering, machine learning, neuroscience, medicine, and the social sciences. Especially in the era of big data, researchers can easily collect data characterised by massive dimensions and complexity. In celebration of Professor Kai-Tai Fang’s 80th birthday, we present this book, which furthers new and exciting developments in modern statistical theories, methods and applications. The book features four review papers on Professor Fang’s numerous contributions to the fields of experimental design, multivariate analysis, data mining and education. It also contains twenty research articles contributed by prominent and active figures in their fields. The articles cover a wide range of important topics such as experimental design, multivariate analysis, data mining, hypothesis testing and statistical models.
Book Synopsis Statistical Meta-Analysis with Applications by : Joachim Hartung
Download or read book Statistical Meta-Analysis with Applications written by Joachim Hartung and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-20 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accessible introduction to performing meta-analysis across various areas of research The practice of meta-analysis allows researchers to obtain findings from various studies and compile them to verify and form one overall conclusion. Statistical Meta-Analysis with Applications presents the necessary statistical methodologies that allow readers to tackle the four main stages of meta-analysis: problem formulation, data collection, data evaluation, and data analysis and interpretation. Combining the authors' expertise on the topic with a wealth of up-to-date information, this book successfully introduces the essential statistical practices for making thorough and accurate discoveries across a wide array of diverse fields, such as business, public health, biostatistics, and environmental studies. Two main types of statistical analysis serve as the foundation of the methods and techniques: combining tests of effect size and combining estimates of effect size. Additional topics covered include: Meta-analysis regression procedures Multiple-endpoint and multiple-treatment studies The Bayesian approach to meta-analysis Publication bias Vote counting procedures Methods for combining individual tests and combining individual estimates Using meta-analysis to analyze binary and ordinal categorical data Numerous worked-out examples in each chapter provide the reader with a step-by-step understanding of the presented methods. All exercises can be computed using the R and SAS software packages, which are both available via the book's related Web site. Extensive references are also included, outlining additional sources for further study. Requiring only a working knowledge of statistics, Statistical Meta-Analysis with Applications is a valuable supplement for courses in biostatistics, business, public health, and social research at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels. It is also an excellent reference for applied statisticians working in industry, academia, and government.
