Book Synopsis Transportation Development Process by : Robert P. Mickelson
Download or read book Transportation Development Process written by Robert P. Mickelson and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1998 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis presents information on current practices used by transportation agencies to complete the transportation development process (TDP). This process involves linking the planning, project development, environmental, design, construction, operations, and maintenance aspects of the overall transportation program. The purpose of the TDP is to implement a seamless process in which all these elements come together and in which there is continuous public involvement. This report will be of interest to regional and state transportation, planning, and environmental agencies who participate in the TDP and who are involved in both the development and policy aspects of the TDP. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the history of the TDP, as well as the federal requirements that must be met under both transportation and environmental regulations. This process is made more complex by state and local regulations that must be observed in most jurisdictions. Throughout this process, as carried out by the state transportation agencies and the metropolitan planning organizations, there is continuous public involvement. Other programs, such as the transportation implementation plan, state transportation implementation plan, and environmental programs such as the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, and requirements of other environmental laws must be integrated into the TDP. The complexities of this process are described, and some unique approaches to meeting its demands are presented.
Book Synopsis Implementing Information Findability Improvements in State Transportation Agencies by : Spy Pond Partners, LLC
Download or read book Implementing Information Findability Improvements in State Transportation Agencies written by Spy Pond Partners, LLC and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a quick search online, you can discover the answers to all kinds of questions. Findability within large volumes of information and data has become almost as important as the answers themselves. Without being able to search various types of media ranging from print reports to video, efforts are duplicated and productivity and effectiveness suffer. The TRB National Cooperative Highway Research Program's NCHRP Research Report 947: Implementing Information Findability Improvements in State Transportation Agencies identifies key opportunities and challenges that departments of transportation (DOTs) face with respect to information findability and provides practical guidance for agencies wishing to tackle this problem. It describes four specific techniques piloted within three State DOTs. Additional resources with the document include NCHRP Web-Only Document 279: Information Findability Implementation Pilots at State Transportation Agencies and three videos on the Washington State DOT Manual Modernization Pilot.

Download or read book A Guide to Emergency Management at State Transportation Agencies written by Ernest R. Frazier and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: State transportation agencies will always fulfill a role in the emergency-management effort - for all incidents, from the routine traffic incident through major emergencies to catastrophic events. State agency plans and procedures are expected (indeed required if the agency seeks federal compensation) to be related to state and regional emergency structures and plans. This involves multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional cooperation in emergency planning and operations. The TRB National Cooperative Highway Research Program's NCHRP Research Report 931: A Guide to Emergency Management at State Transportation Agencies is an update to a 2010 guide that provided an approach to all-hazards emergency management and documented existing practices in emergency-response planning. Significant advances in emergency management, changing operational roles at State DOTs and other transportation organizations, along with federal guidance issued since 2010, have resulted in a need to reexamine requirements for state transportation agency emergency-management functions, roles, and responsibilities. The report is accompanied by NCHRP Web-Only Document 267:Developing a Guide to Emergency Management at State Transportation Agencies a PowerPoint presentation that offers an overview and key findings, among other information.

Book Synopsis Longitudinal Occupancy of Controlled Access Right-of-way by Utilities by : Ronald L. Williams (P.E.)
Download or read book Longitudinal Occupancy of Controlled Access Right-of-way by Utilities written by Ronald L. Williams (P.E.) and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1996 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to highway administrators, design engineers, maintenance engineers and maintenance staff, traffic engineers, and safety officials. It will also provide useful information to the utilities and telecommunications industries. Information is presented on the state transportation agencies' policies, practices, and experience associated with occupancy of the rights-of-way on controlled (or limited) access highways. This report of the Transportation Research Board presents a brief history of accommodation of utilities in the right-of-way, including the policies developed over time by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and describes why there are issues associated with joint use of the highway right-of-way. A 1993/1994 survey of the state transportation agencies taken for this synthesis yielded 100% return, indicating the high interest in the subject. Issues included in the survey were policies and experiences regarding user and worker safety; controls placed on utilities; exceptions to right-of-way policies; and operational, legal, and equity issues.
