Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Star Matters 2 is the second book in the Star Matters trilogy. It begins when the Gayan star people contact the British Prime Minister through their main contact , Professor Kitteridge, Professor of Cosmology at Cambridge University. They say that they are planning First Alien Contact between their race and planet Earth imminently. The Prime Minister is embroiled in Brexit and pleased to discover the UK armed forces have a secret agency ready to handle such an event. Soon the President of the USA has to be told and he insists that the Americans should manage any contact with alien forces. Meanwhile the Gayans have enemies that also have designs on annexing planet Earth for their Spargar Empire. They send their most feared warrior leader to Earth to settle events in their favour. He flushes out the Gayan agents working with Professor Kitteridge and attempts to subdue them first with force and later by bending them to his will. As First Contact draws near the general population is kept unaware until the last moment. The Gayan and Spargar forces progress their campaigns to gain control of Earth; for Enlightenment and mutual benefit with the Gayans or annexed as a slave race to the Spargar Empire. Professor Kitteridge and the UK based agencies attempt to manage the arrival of the Gayans, despite pressure from the US President and the European Union who want to own any new technologies from advanced alien races, building to a climax demanded by the formal arrival of the Gayan ambassadors at a place and time of their own choosing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation is probably the most read, but least understood book of the Bible. History is replete with examples of how not to interpret it, and books featuring end-of-world prophecy claims based on Revelation consistently top the bestseller lists. But how can the message of such an enigmatic book be applied to our lives today? In Discipleship on the Edge, Darrell W. Johnson drives home the challenging and practical message of Revelation in thirty carefully crafted sermons. Paying careful attention to the original context of Revelation and the circumstances surrounding its composition, Johnson shows that the book is not a "crystal ball" but rather a "discipleship manual." Thoroughly researched and yet accessible, this collection of sermons is a helpful resource for pastors and small group leaders who are looking for models to help them preach and teach the message of Revelation in a time when there is much confusion about the end times. Darrell W. Johnson serves as Scholar-in-Residence at The Way Church and Canadian Church Leaders Network in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A popular conference and retreat speaker, he has also served as the preaching pastor for a number of congregations in North America and the Philippines, as well as serving as Adjunct Professor of Preaching for the Doctor of Ministry program at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, and a Teaching Fellow at Regent College. His other books include Experiencing the Trinity and Fifty-Seven Words That Change The World.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation. The Apocalypse. Words that often call to mind bizarre creatures, strange seals, dreadful plagues, and a slew of other mystifying symbols. Most of us approach this last book of the Bible with forebodings rather than hope. To us John?s vision seems more like a nightmare. But the elderly apostle begins with a statement that doesn?t seem to fit the rest of the book: ?The revelation of Jesus Christ.? Apparently he intends to unveil something tremendously important about Jesus. Something life-changing. Something we can?t afford to miss.Larry Lichtenwalter explores a side of Revelation seldom portrayed: Christ?s passionate love for humanity. This recurring theme subtly appears in the imagery and symbolism throughout John?s vision. The slain Lamb. The divine protective sealing. The blood-bleached-white robes. The heart-wrenching prayer of the saints. Without Christ?s love, these scenes and symbols would mean nothing.Ultimately John?s vision reveals the extraordinary love of our Savior for His rebellious, undeserving children?and the incredible reasons we can love Him in return.

Book excerpt: This volume brings together essays by specialists in different disciplines on the cultural expression of apocalypse, in particular in anglophone science fiction of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Approaching these works from historical, philosophical, linguistic and literary perspectives, the contributors examine the relationship between secular and spiritual apocalypse, connecting the fiction and films to their historical moment. Not surprisingly, war recurs throughout this material, as a critical turning-point, fulfilment of prophecy, or prelude to a new age. In particular the essays explore the issue of whether modern apocalypse is seen as an ending or a beginning, considered under its political, ethnic and gendered aspects. Among the writers covered are H. G. Wells, Olaf Stapledon and such contemporary figures as Michael Moorcock, J. G. Ballard and Storm Constantine.
