Book excerpt: This manual establishes and standardizes stability criteria for use in the design and evaluation of the many various types of concrete structures common to Corps of Engineers civil works projects. As used in this manual, the term 'stability' applies to external global stability (sliding, rotation, flotation and bearing), not to internal stability failures such as sliding on lift surfaces or exceedance of allowable material strengths.

Book Synopsis Reliability and Stability Assessment of Concrete Gravity Structures (RCSLIDE): User's Guide by :
Download or read book Reliability and Stability Assessment of Concrete Gravity Structures (RCSLIDE): User's Guide written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a documentation of RCSLIDE, the reliability version of CSLIDE, a computer program for assessing the sliding stability of concrete gravity structures using the limit equilibrium method described in EC 110-2-291, "Stability Analysis of Concrete Structures." CSLIDE can compute the factor of safety against sliding considering the effects of numerous and varied conditions. The report is organized to present an overview of the sliding analysis and the capabilities of the program including reliability assessment, to discuss the development of the equations used in the sliding analysis and the analysis procedures and their implementation into the program, to discuss program input and output, and to present a user's guide. A theoretical discussion of the reliability analysis procedures and their implementation is provided in a companion manual. Example problems which demonstrate the capabilities of both CSLIDE and the reliability assessment are included in appendices. Another appendix provides a list of CSLIDE/RESLIDE routines.
Book Synopsis Strength Design for Reinforced-concrete Hydraulic Structures by : American Society of Civil Engineers

This book was released on 1993 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strength Design for Reinforced-Concrete Hydraulic Structures is written in sufficient detail to not only provide the designer with design procedures, but also to present examples of their application. A review of general detailing requirements, as well as strength and serviceability requirements, create a strong understanding of the strength-design method. Latter chapters feature examples that demonstrate load-factor application, the design of members subjected to combined flexural and axial loads, the design of members subjected to biaxial bending, and the design for shear strength, including provisions for both special straight and curved members.

Book Synopsis Stability of Structures by : Z. P. Ba?ant
Download or read book Stability of Structures written by Z. P. Ba?ant and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 1039 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A crucial element of structural and continuum mechanics, stability theory has limitless applications in civil, mechanical, aerospace, naval and nuclear engineering. This text of unparalleled scope presents a comprehensive exposition of the principles and applications of stability analysis. It has been proven as a text for introductory courses and various advanced courses for graduate students. It is also prized as an exhaustive reference for engineers and researchers. The authors' focus on understanding of the basic principles rather than excessive detailed solutions, and their treatment of each subject proceed from simple examples to general concepts and rigorous formulations. All the results are derived using as simple mathematics as possible. Numerous examples are given and 700 exercise problems help in attaining a firm grasp of this central aspect of solid mechanics. The book is an unabridged republication of the 1991 edition by Oxford University Press and the 2003 edition by Dover, updated with 18 pages of end notes.

Book Synopsis Reinforced Concrete Beams, Columns and Frames by : Jostein Hellesland
Download or read book Reinforced Concrete Beams, Columns and Frames written by Jostein Hellesland and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-13 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is focused on the theoretical and practical design of reinforced concrete beams, columns and frame structures. It is based on an analytical approach of designing normal reinforced concrete structural elements that are compatible with most international design rules, including for instance the European design rules – Eurocode 2 – for reinforced concrete structures. The book tries to distinguish between what belongs to the structural design philosophy of such structural elements (related to strength of materials arguments) and what belongs to the design rule aspects associated with specific characteristic data (for the material or loading parameters). A previous book, entitled Reinforced Concrete Beams, Columns and Frames – Mechanics and Design, deals with the fundamental aspects of the mechanics and design of reinforced concrete in general, both related to the Serviceability Limit State (SLS) and the Ultimate Limit State (ULS), whereas the current book deals with more advanced ULS aspects, along with instability and second-order analysis aspects. Some recent research results including the use of non-local mechanics are also presented. This book is aimed at Masters-level students, engineers, researchers and teachers in the field of reinforced concrete design. Most of the books in this area are very practical or code-oriented, whereas this book is more theoretically based, using rigorous mathematics and mechanics tools. Contents 1. Advanced Design at Ultimate Limit State (ULS). 2. Slender Compression Members – Mechanics and Design. 3. Approximate Analysis Methods. Appendix 1. Cardano’s Method. Appendix 2. Steel Reinforcement Table. About the Authors Jostein Hellesland has been Professor of Structural Mechanics at the University of Oslo, Norway since January 1988. His contribution to the field of stability has been recognized and magnified by many high-quality papers in famous international journals such as Engineering Structures, Thin-Walled Structures, Journal of Constructional Steel Research and Journal of Structural Engineering. Noël Challamel is Professor in Civil Engineering at UBS, University of South Brittany in France and chairman of the EMI-ASCE Stability committee. His contributions mainly concern the dynamics, stability and inelastic behavior of structural components, with special emphasis on Continuum Damage Mechanics (more than 70 publications in International peer-reviewed journals). Charles Casandjian was formerly Associate Professor at INSA (French National Institute of Applied Sciences), Rennes, France and the chairman of the course on reinforced concrete design. He has published work on the mechanics of concrete and is also involved in creating a web experience for teaching reinforced concrete design – BA-CORTEX. Christophe Lanos is Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Rennes 1 in France. He has mainly published work on the mechanics of concrete, as well as other related subjects. He is also involved in creating a web experience for teaching reinforced concrete design – BA-CORTEX.
