The burden of war conditions on actual publication has, unfortunately, led to the reduction of most interesting subject-matter and yarns, which, however, I hope to publish in a supplementary volume later on. Nearly every subsequent book is better than Frank Mildmay; but it ought also to be remembered that in Percival Keene the hero possesses no more admirable a character than does the Naval Officer.
