Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As ancient Israel's size and influence declined, her prophets began to increasingly predict a new act from God that would accomplish three things on a global scale: (1) a purifying judgment that would reset the scales of justice and remove the degrading effects of evil; (2) the carving out of a remnant community deeply devoted to Yahweh, expanding to include international participation; and (3) the ushering in of a messianic age in which goodness, harmony, and righteousness would pervade every dimension of life on earth. Jesus' disciples connected the prophetic Day of the Lord with his coming and redemptive work. Yet many questioned whether the full impact was made manifest in Jesus, since wars did not cease, broad judgment on sin and evil was not unleashed, and the full blessings of the predicted messianic age were not evident. Jesus did something that no one had anticipated, however, by splitting the Day of the Lord into two divine acts instead of one. This is what distinguishes Christianity from its Jewish roots, as well as its Islamic successor--neither of which acknowledge this unique aspect of Jesus' person and work, or the reworking of how and when the Day of the Lord would take place.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Faith" gets its most powerful definition from the New Testament book of Hebrews. Yet this anonymous treatise tantalizes with both its lack of contemporary precision about faith's definition and its shrouded original context. There are, however, sufficient clues in Hebrew's text to guide astute investigators toward a strange and yet familiar world of religious challenge in which the deeply significant rituals of ancient Israel, the attractive moral character of first-century Jews in Rome, a crowd of disaffected righteous Romans, and a purported Palestinian messiah converge to produce one of the world's most thoughtful, courageous, and brilliant calls to martyrdom. In this careful pilgrimage along the author's meticulous development of a holy challenge to remain faithful to Jesus (precisely because there are no meaningful alternatives), Brouwer helps us find an inspiring and ever-relevant call to faith--we become the persons we are through the daily choices we make about Jesus and others.

'Left behind' has been a catch phrase in American church culture for more than a decade, but pretribulation beliefs were virtually unheard of before the eighteenth century. Many modern-day believers await the return of the Lord to rapture the Church before a turbulent tribulation period, expecting unbelievers to be left behind to suffer the horrors of this seven-year period. This popular belief is promoted from many evangelical pulpits and popularized by books and movies, but does it really line up with the Bible? Dr. Barber provides a careful examination of Scripture and a critical analysis of the biblical commentaries that form the basis of the pretribulation rapture belief. Once a pretribulationist himself, he found that his in-depth study of the Bible quickly revealed the errors of this position. With spiritual, biblical, and intellectual insight, The Day of the Lord: The Key to Understanding End-Time Prophecy challenges the very foundation of pretribulation theology. Dr. Barber stresses the importance of sola scriptura as he guides readers through his compelling and convincing argument for a clearer understanding of end-times prophecy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this 2006 text, Daniel M. Gurtner examines the meaning of the rending of the veil at the death of Jesus in Matthew 27:51a by considering the functions of the veil in the Old Testament and its symbolism in Second Temple and Rabbinic Judaism. Gurtner incorporates these elements into a compositional exegesis of the rending text in Matthew. He concludes that the rending of the veil is an apocalyptic assertion like the opening of heaven revealing, in part, end-time images drawn from Ezekiel 37. Moreover, when the veil is torn Matthew depicts the cessation of its function, articulating the atoning role of Christ's death which gives access to God not simply in the sense of entering the Holy of Holies (as in Hebrews), but in trademark Matthean Emmanuel Christology: 'God with us'. This underscores the significance of Jesus' atoning death in the first gospel.

Book excerpt: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." John 14:3 ESV Jesus Christ was very clear: One day He will return-and none of us knows when. Vocal fanatics claim to know the details of the Second Coming, causing many Christians to all but ignore the good news that Jesus is coming again. Yet God's own Word commands us to know the signs of the times, to remain watchful, and to be ready-whenever Christ comes. This book is a straightforward, in-depth exploration of the key biblical texts regarding the Second Coming; most notably, Christ's longest and most important eschatological message, the Olivet Discourse. As you study what the Word of God says about these matters, it will stir in your heart an earnest longing for Christ's return-as well as a certainty about how to live expectantly until He comes again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Old Testament is richly laden with prophecies and foreshadowings of the last days. Having never researched its treasures, however, many Christians possess a lopsided, exclusively New Testament understanding of End-Times prophecy. The Day of the Lord Commentary meticulously examines every Old Testament text foretelling or foreshadowing the dramatic people and events that consummate God’s prophetic plan, terminate this world order, and inaugurate Christ’s unprecedentedly righteous, peaceful, worldwide kingdom on earth. Only the Bible, accurately interpreted, establishes accurate End-Times views. This commentary’s abundant, biblical cross-references lay a deep, broad foundation for a clear, accurate eschatology. It will amaze you how often, and how specifically, Old and New Testament prophets agree. All see the same final events, and in the same order: Tribulation, Armageddon, Millennium! This in-depth study gives special attention to the Old Testament’s less-known “little apocalypses” in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Zechariah, and identifies their many links to John’s well-known apocalypse, Revelation. Soundly refuting Supersessionism, it explains why God has regathered the Jews, reestablished the State of Israel, and preserved it against all odds: Israel’s Day of the Lord is coming! Book Review 1: "Greg Hinnant’s monumental work, The Day of the Lord Commentary, is a must-read for anyone interested in the final summation of End-Times events … Greg takes the reader on an extraordinary journey through the Old Testament with three-dimensional glasses that allows one to see direct references and indirect typology concerning the great drama of redemption as it moves to its conclusion. This may be the foremost study of its kind on this topic." -- Dr. Charles H. Gaulden, Old Testament Professor, Southeastern University Book Review 2: "It is exceptionally common in eschatological study to focus almost exclusively on the New Testament, yet such an approach ignores Paul’s admonition that all scripture is inspired (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Day of the Lord Commentary provides a systematic overview of important references to the impending Day of the Lord found throughout the Old Testament, and weaves these prophetic expectations into one seamless tapestry throughout the whole Bible." -- Dr. Ran Whitley, DMin, PhD, Professor, Campbell University Book Review 3: "Though a Bible student all my life, certain passages remained obscure and confusing. The Day of the Lord Commentary has changed all of this, as these formerly confusing passages have now come alive. This book’s depth and insight into the Old Testament is astounding. How Greg was able to mine through all the rock and rubble of confusing Bible prophecy to access these precious stones of biblical revelation is truly a gift. This work is a must-read for all who desire a deeper understanding of God’s Word and a valuable resource for ministers, to shed light and understanding on the gospel message we proclaim." -- Sherri Leith, Senior Pastor, Family Worship Center, Port Orchard, Washington Book Review 4: "The Day of the Lord Commentary provides an in-depth study of biblical eschatology. Using a detailed comparative analysis of the eschatological oracles scattered throughout the Hebrew Bible, Greg lays out a theological roadmap for understanding God’s plan for Israel and the nations. This book, written from a Christian perspective, tackles some of the most intriguing End-Times prophecies recorded in Israel’s sacred scriptures. Pastors, preachers, and Bible teachers will greatly benefit from this thought-provoking volume." -- Dr. Igal German, Founding Director, Yesod Bible Center, and International Biblical Apologetics Association (bibleapologist.org)

A game-changing peace treaty between Israel and the Saudis is nearly done. The secretary of state is headed to the region to seal the deal. And Special Agent Marcus Ryker is leading an advance trip along the Israel-Lebanon border, ahead of the secretary’s arrival. But when Ryker and his team are ambushed by Hezbollah forces, a nightmare scenario begins to unfold. The last thing the White House can afford is a new war in the Mideast that could derail the treaty and set the region ablaze. U.S. and Israeli forces are mobilizing to find the hostages and get them home, but Ryker knows the clock is ticking. When Hezbollah realizes who they’ve captured, no amount of ransom will save them—they’ll be transferred to Beirut and then to Tehran to be executed on live television. In the fourth installment of Rosenberg’s gripping new series, Marcus Ryker finds himself in the most dangerous situation he has ever faced—captured, brutalized, and dragged deep behind enemy lines. Should he wait to be rescued? Or try to escape? How? And what if his colleagues are too wounded to run? This is the CIA’s most valuable operative as you have never seen him before.

The passages mesh beautifully when interpreted according to the plain reading of the text, and are in sync with what other passages say on the same subject. (Biblical Studies)
