Richard Haines not only lived the dream, but takes us along for the ride in this faith-fueled autobiography." --Michael Brown, Lead Reviewer for Third Option Men Join USAF fighter pilot Richard Haines on a journey of danger, determination, and devotion as he is divinely guided through perils of all kinds. From life-threatening jet emergencies to family-threatening temptations, he learns that God has a desire for everyone's life, and that He is definitely involved. Though we may be unaware and even indifferent to His plan for us, He sometimes uses other believers as spiritual rudders to steer, protect, and pour into our bodily vessels. Spiritual Wingman: A Fighter Pilot's Journey to God is an intriguing story of a fighter pilot's adventurous path through worldly obstacles to the place where he comes face to face with divine purpose. The life lessons and practical applications that are shared in this book will equip and empower Christians (and non-Christians alike) to truly examine their lives and make the crucial decision to grow and be what the Lord has called each of us to be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fighter pilots are known for their bravery, cunning, and skill in combat. They are also known for their expertise in worldly vices. Few people would think that Christian men and women could be a part of that military culture.#xD;#xD;They not only can, but should.#xD;#xD;Godly men and women can be both good Christians and good fighter pilots, Sailors, Soldiers, or Marines - something many people believe is a contradiction. From fighter pilot traditions to the controversy of military evangelism, Christian Fighter Pilot explains not only the popular fighter pilot culture, but also the sometimes secretive world of the men and women who fly and fight. Whether in training or combat, Christians are shown that they can live out their faith and still excel in the world's best military.

This book was released on 2019-03-05 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CONTENTS: Executive Summary on Hazing in the Military Hazing: A Military Study In the Military: A Pilot Study Perceptions of Hazing and Bullying among U.S. Military Service Members The Shift from Acceptance to Prevention Background Hazing in the military began as a celebration of accomplishments and strengthening of unit bonds. However, it has in some cases transformed through time into degrading and demeaning acts with the potential for deadly consequences. All services find acts of hazing punishable under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) law, yet, it still occurs. At the same time, it is important to note the distinctions between hazing and bullying (see Appendix A). Task: In January of 2012, the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) was tasked with the examination of hazing within the military. Definitions and the Current State of Military Hazing The concept of hazing within the military is unique. Hazing intermingles with other concepts, such as discrimination, racist behaviors, anti-locution (see Appendix J), bullying, and even acceptance, pride, and teamwork. The following conceptual areas outline these important attributes within hazing in the military. Historical and Current Events: Unfortunately, hazing is not a unique phenomenon, and often pervades most military branches and their specialty communities‘ cultures. The military Service branches currently lack a method to accurately gauge the prevalence of hazing behaviors. Still, the conventional wisdom maintains that many members engage in hazing behaviors (see Appendix B). Evidence of this is easily noted by searching the web or social media sites. Events such as what occurred at Aberdeen Proving Ground can be used to pave the way ahead and prevent similar events from happening. Definitions: All Services have defined hazing (see Appendix C). These definitions are followed by examples of specific hazing behaviors, the effects of hazing on the individual, and the potential ramifications for the Services if hazing is allowed to occur. Lacking Definition is Bullying: It is possible that what may be missing is a written distinction between bullying and hazing. The Department of Defense‘s (DoD) definition of hazing for example only includes hazing behaviors. The militaries of Canada and the UK have separate hazing and bullying policies. It is possible this may reduce the confusion and increase avenues for prosecution. Furthermore distinction may also serve to ensure many such acts are not seen and potentially excused as tradition or indoctrination. Distinguishing Bullying from Hazing: The terms bullying and hazing share some likeness; similar to the parallels between discrimination and bullying, the behaviors associated with hazing and bullying may be identical at times; however, bullying and hazing are distinct constructs. These differences are Not delineated in current policies are procedures. Based on the literature, what we may be witnessing with recent events may actually be act of bullying and not hazing. Policies/Programs Regarding Bullying: Currently there are no policies that address specifically bullying. In the UK and Canada there are policies and programs to prevent bullying Punishment of Hazing without Severe Consequences: The extent of prosecution of acts of hazing that do not result in death or destruction is unknown. Institutionalized hazing is known to occur and remains difficult to probe.

Book excerpt: Despite our desire to flourish, many women, myself included, often hesitate to go straight to the source of all strength, the Word of God. Yet God promises, If you seek me, you will find me (Jeremiah 29:13). Theres no better way to know the character of God than to dive straight into the Bible. Nearly four years ago, I finally dove straight in, beginning my journey with the Lord through the entirety of his Word. As I share what the Lord has taught me with honesty, redemptive vulnerability, and a dash of self-deprecating humor, my hope is that you will read this and say, Ah, me too! And, wheres my Bible? My hearts desire is for all of us to walk in the fullness of life God has for us, to become deeply rooted in the Word, and to be able to say together, I have seen the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13).

Book excerpt: SCRAMBLE! In a couple of minutes my wingman and I would be airborne on another adventure. Sometimes we intercepted an airliner, sometimes a misplaced B-52 bomber, and sometimes Russian bombers probing our defenses; Russian warships; MIG fighters; or troops in contact in Vietnam, calling for napalm only yards from their positions. Twice it was UFOs - Unidentified Flying Objects! This book is a series of short stories, supported by more than 90 photographs. The first part has my own stories; later stories were contributed by my fellow pilots. The last story is from WW II of our P-38 fighters attacking the Romanian oil fields and getting badly mauled by defending Romanian fighters - and a Romanian pilot's view of the battle! Only the spirit of attack borne in a brave heart will bring success to any fighter aircraft, to matter how highly developed the aircraft may be. That quote from Adolf Galland, an Ace of the German Luftwaffe in WW II, was the motto of our 317th Fighter Interceptor Squadron in Alaska. The fighter pilot is a hunter, and his quarry is the most dangerous in the world - men who want to kill him! The best defense is a good offense - ATTACK! The US Air Force had a program called Every Man a Tiger. A tiger does not kill impulsively or in anger, but plans his attack carefully and strikes with cool ferocity. We were tigers! Fighter pilots tell stories around the bar, but they seldom write them down. These stories were written by the fighter pilots themselves! Come with me and hear of the beauty of flight, the mortal danger of electrical power failure at night in a snowstorm, and the thrill of attack with 20mm cannons firing right under your feet!

It is a story of human dedication, tremendous perseverance, and heroic achievement. You will read about a news broadcast team, Frank and Laura Marshall, in the early days of radio. You will go with them as they travel around the globe seeking to document the turbulent days of World War II, the atomic age cold war, and the conflicts that followed. Their joys and heartaches will be yours to experience as they deal with the greatest technological project of history and the spy that gave it all away. One of Laura's younger brothers, Jamie, becomes a key factor in the development of aircraft engines for the Navy. His talents are enormous and lead him into dangerous situations that are unique, but were all too real. His involvement with the Navy's Special Operations, leads him behind enemy lines more than once. His missions are simple, ferret out the secrets of the German engine technology and the scientists responsible for their successes. Jamie represents many unsung heroes of our nation. His experiences will fascinate you. Jamie's wife, Betty, was the emerging business woman during this tumultuous period in our history. She and Jamie built a successful motorcycle business in response to the war needs of America's allies. Her journey was made with frustration and difficulty as her tenacity and her capability overcame the obstacles which a male-oriented society had created. Her rise to success was in response to America's needs of the time. You will live the life of a fighter pilot on both sides of the world as you meet and travel the adventures of Charles, Laura's youngest brother who joined the Navy on his seventeenth birthday and on the eve of catastrophe. Through Charles's eyes you will learn the history of naval aviation from the beginnings of World War II and through the development of the jet age. You will fly with him in crisp, exciting major air battles of The Battle of Britain, WWII and the conflicts that followed, Korea and Vietnam. His maturity, both as a pilot and as a human, will be both your joy and sorrow. That he put all on the line for his nation is so typical of our nation's ideals. The disappointment he feels at the change in direction of our nation after the Korean conflict will be yours as well.

'Tremendous, big, clever. Every once in a while a novel comes along and speaks to a generation ... has much to say about what it means to live, love and lose in the twenty-first century' Guardian Silicon Valley: home of online start-ups, couture coffee, sexual meditation, and the future. In its midst, Neill Bassett is helping to build the world's first artificial intelligence - a computer that talks, thinks, lies, and if all goes to plan, feels bad about it too. But when the experiment swerves in an unexpected direction, Neill is forced to confront a few buried feelings of his own - for his ex-wife, for his dead father, for his twenty-first-century life, and for a very twenty-first-century woman called Rachel, who might just hold the answer to it all... 'Electrifying. Clever, funny and very entertaining' The New York Times 'Worthy of Chuck Palahniuk ... Hutchins's satirical take on 21st-century existence is sharply observed' Independent 'Touching and extremely funny, Neill Bassett is a disenchanted bachelor for the Noughties generation. Brilliantly achieved' GQ 'Inventive, intelligent, hilarious. One of the pleasures here is Hutchins' terrific grasp of the zeitgest' San Francisco Chronicle 'Terrific. Throughout, Hutchins hits that sweet spot where humour and melancholy comfortably coexist' Entertainment Weekly 'Mixes the everyman likeability of Nick Hornby with a splash of the offbeat intellect of Douglas Coupland' Metro Scott Hutchins teaches at Stanford University, California. His work has appeared in StoryQuarterly, The Rumpus, The New York Times and Esquire. This is his first novel.

Book excerpt: My Wingmen is a true account of my journey with angels. They entered my world during a period of inner reflection as I researched personal growth during a challenging life transition. The books I was drawn to came alive as I read about alternate realities and spiritual concepts. I witnessed these realities as my home became a stomping ground for angels and spirit guides, where I enjoyed their appearances and intervention. They showed me how to interpret and discern the lighter side of the earth realm, and they gave me examples of what clear expanded believing could accomplish. As I began to openly talk about prayer, my psychic senses began to blossom. I was embraced by two angels, and they offered me healing along with their companionship. They have become my teachers, and they have helped me connect with truths beyond my wildest dreams. It was in expanded thought that I was able to grasp a world that is clearer to me now, as this present-day drama fades to black. I have opened my arms to an enlightened world, because where there is love, there is no room for fear. Meet my wingmen, Archangel Michael and Archangel Raphael.
