Book Synopsis The Anthroposophic Movement by : Rudolf Steiner
Download or read book The Anthroposophic Movement written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2022-11-18 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This course of lectures was given at a pivotal point in the development of the anthroposophic movement. Just months before, an act of arson had caused the destruction of the first Goetheanum, and its darkened ruins appeared to reflect the fragmentations within the Anthroposophical Society. Divisions were appearing amongst members and friends, with individual energies increasingly routed to external initiatives and practical projects. It became apparent that a new impetus was needed. In this turbulent context, Steiner delivers these lectures in a calm, lively and informal style. In the last decades of the nineteenth century, he says, a yearning for spiritual nourishment arose within Western culture, and organizations such as the Theosophical Society gained in popularity. Despite his direct involvement in these events, Steiner describes in dispassionate tones how the spiritual movements behind theosophy and anthroposophy were able to work together harmoniously, before an unavoidable separation took place. Steiner’s expansive review of the anthroposophic movement is an important narrative account of the developing Western spiritual tradition and the history of the Mysteries. These lectures also offer rare perceptions of the life and philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. Those who identify with the movement he founded will discover revelatory insights to its background and possibilities for its future development within the broader evolution of humankind.

Book Synopsis Spirituality in Counselling and Psychotherapy by : Dennis Lines
Download or read book Spirituality in Counselling and Psychotherapy written by Dennis Lines and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2006-10-16 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `Fascinating. There is much here that is controversial, thought provoking and very useful. It is encyclopaedic in its breadth and use of knowledge. [Like] rich food [it] needs to be taken in slowly, savouring every morsel!′ - Thresholds `[Spirituality] has been traditionally ′taboo′ within the counselling and psychotherapy profession. Denis Lines comes into this controversial scene with a rigorous-but-gentle, mystical-but-grounded, inspiring and thought-provoking voice.... The book is well written and presents the model in the context of other therapeutic modalities, which makes it interesting and useful for therapists from different backgrounds and practice settings. It could also be of use for those involved in religious education, pastoral care or anybody interested in the spiritual development of the self or the existential quest of humankind′ - Therapy Today ′This gentle, mystical, empirical and scholarly book is truly inspirational and it deserves the widest possible readership among therapists, religious educators and all those who care about the spiritual destiny of humankind′ - Professor Brian Thorne, Co-founder The Norwich Centre and Emeritus Professor of Counselling, University of East Anglia Spirituality in Counselling and Psychotherapy explores the idea that throughout the course of a therapeutic relationship between therapist and client, a spiritual level is reached by the two people involved. The author shows how this dimension can help clients who are living in an increasingly secular and faithless society to find some resolution with the issues they bring to therapy. By exploring different perspectives on religion and spirituality, the book provides therapists with the grounding they need to introduce spiritually-centred counselling into their practice. It describes the characteristics of spiritual counselling and covers practical considerations such as: " recognising indications from the client to move into a spiritual mode of therapy " exploring the ′self′ through spiritual work within the therapeutic process, and how this can lead to healing and growth " how to deal with doubt and scepticism over issues of spirituality. The book is illustrated throughout with transcripts and case studies to show how therapists can integrate the spiritual within their own approach to therapeutic work. It will be invaluable to all those who wish to explore this dimension in their work with clients.
Book Synopsis THE HUMAN SPIRIT by : RUDOLF STEINER
Download or read book THE HUMAN SPIRIT written by RUDOLF STEINER and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2015-12-09 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'To live in truth, to wish to be true in one’s whole being, will be the watchword of the future.’ – Rudolf Steiner In the midst of the lies and propaganda of the Great War, Rudolf Steiner struggled to convey the truths of the human spirit. The ‘truth’ asserted by partisan interests, he suggested, was invariably tinged with dishonesty – whether the outright mendacities of politicians and rulers (Steiner refers here to the machinations of the British Empire), or the manipulative techniques of secret societies, intent on securing and shoring up their own power. In relation to the latter, Rudolf Steiner highlights how, whilst we tend to reject overt authority nowadays, we succumb more easily to its covert forms in the ‘received wisdoms’ we often unthinkingly adopt. In seeking to help his audiences discern the spiritual struggle unfolding behind outer events, Steiner describes how the intrigues that led to the war were based on intentional deceit, which served hidden aims of which the public was mostly kept in the dark. In contrast to the divisiveness of untruth, truth is based on a realization of the interconnectedness of all things – of interdependence between the realms ‘below’ and ‘above’ us. The ‘I’, upon which all evolution on earth is predicated, signifies an overcoming of egotism and narrow interests, together with the imaginative embrace of all beings. Its spiritual reality – that descends to us from non-material worlds and towards which we evolve through earthly lives – is the epitome of truth. Amidst many other topics covered here, Rudolf Steiner speaks about The Qur’an and the Mystery of Golgotha; Henry VIII, Thomas More and the Church of England; the Jesuits and their State in Paraguay; Freemasons, esoteric symbols, and handshakes; Madame Blavatsky’s occult imprisonment by Anglo-Saxon brotherhoods; Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov; and the occult literature of Papus and Lévi.
Book Synopsis Brief Psychotherapy and Spirituality by : Thomas K. Galten Ph. D.
Download or read book Brief Psychotherapy and Spirituality written by Thomas K. Galten Ph. D. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-11 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overarching theme of this book is that spiritually-oriented psychotherapy is entirely consistent with brief psychotherapeutic relationships. In advancing this claim, I first present an overview of contemporary spirituality and the brief psychotherapy movement. I later seek to describe the subtle but powerful connections that exist between certain approaches to brief therapy and the experience commonly referred to as cosmic consciousness. Before beginning a deliberate description of what I call Brief Spiritual Psychotherapy (BSP), I describe the experience of cosmic consciousness from the perspectives of Christian doctrine, Eastern philosophy and transpersonal psychology. Throughout I attempt to show how it is that these bodies of thought lay the conceptual groundwork in our day for the practice of therapy that is based upon a spiritual outlook. I follow this preparation with a discussion of the specifics of BSP, using the elements that are inherently involved in any psychotherapy - view of the client, view of the problem, role of the therapist, and theory of change -as orienting structure.

Book Synopsis As for Me and My House by : Daryl J. Potts
Download or read book As for Me and My House written by Daryl J. Potts and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-07-10 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The verse, Joshua 24:15, "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord," has been the desire and declaration of ministry couples for centuries. Yet the heartache of many ministers and their spouses is the realization that even though they have ministered to many and have been instruments to strengthen people's spiritual lives, the spiritual well-being of their own immediate family is not always where they would like it to be. Many sadly observe members of their own family who no longer attend church, having turned away from the faith. For many ministers and spouses, both those presently in ministry and those starting out, there is a great desire to find keys to prevent their family members from falling away from the faith. The heart of every pastoral couple is to function in their ministry and at the same time see their family flourish. In the light of the dearth of research regarding the ministry/family journey, this book investigates how ministers and their spouses perceive that their involvement in ministry affects their family lives. It further reveals the components that contribute toward the spiritual well-being of their family, while fulfilling their unique ministry responsibilities.
