Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sphere drag coefficients were measured in the Berkeley Low Density Wind Tunnel at Mach equals 2, 4, and 6, and free stream Reynolds numbers between 10 and 10,000 for both insulated and cold wall conditions. The measurements indicate that sphere drag in this regime is strongly dependent on the Reynolds number behind a normal shock wave, and only weakly dependent on Mach number. In addition, it was found that a decrease in wall temperature/stagnation temperature (T sub w/T sub o) from 1 to 0.26 was accompanied by a 5 - 10% decrease in the drag coefficient. A precision microbalance was used to obtain data for insulated spheres, and a moving model technique was used to obtain data for small spheres falling freely through a wind tunnel jet. These latter tests were performed using both cold and insulated models. The results on insulated spheres at M equal 2 and 4 were in good agreement with the measurements of other investigators. The results of the cold wall tests indicate that for Mach numbers greater than 5 in air, sphere drag coefficients are a function only of T sub w/T sub o and the post normal shock Reynolds number. Download or read book Low-Density Supersonic Sphere Drag with Variable Wall Temperature written by D. L. Whitfield and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Force measurements were made to investigate the effect of wall temperature on sphere drag in low-density supersonic flow. Drag data were obtained by fixing flow conditions and changing only the sphere wall temperature. A means of correlating drag data in transition flow is suggested, and its validity is assessed by applying the correlation parameter to this and several other sets of experimental data. (Author).

Book Synopsis Hypersonic Vehicles by : Giuseppe Pezzella
Download or read book Hypersonic Vehicles written by Giuseppe Pezzella and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some sixty years after the experimental flights of the North American X-15 hypersonic rocket-powered aircraft, sustained hypervelocity travel is still the next frontier in high-speed transportation. Today, there is much excitement and interest regarding hypersonic vehicles. In fact, many aerospace agencies, large industries, and several start-ups are involved in design activities and experimental campaigns both in wind tunnels and in-flight with full-scale experimental flying test beds and prototypes to make hypersonic travel almost as easy and convenient as airliner travel. Achieving this goal will radically revolutionize the future of civil transportation. This book contains valuable contributions that focus on various design issues related to hypersonic aircraft.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A modern presentation of multiphase flow, from basic principles to state-of-the-art research. Explains dispersed fluid dynamics for bubbles, drops, or solid particles, incorporating detailed theory, experiments, simulations, and models while considering applications and recent cutting-edge advances. The book demonstrates the importance of multiphase flow in engineering and natural systems, considering particle size distributions, shapes and trajectories as well as deformation of fluid particles and multiphase flow numerical methods. The scope of the book also includes coupling physics between particles and turbulence through dispersion and modulation, and specific phenomena such as gravitational settling and collisions for solid particles, drops and bubbles. Featuring over eighty homework problems for each of the primary chapters, including theory-based and engineering application questions. The comprehensive coverage will give the reader a solid grounding for multiphase flow research and design, applicable to current and future engineering. This is an ideal resource for graduate students, researchers and professionals.
