Book Synopsis An Introduction to Local Spectral Theory by : K. B. Laursen
Download or read book An Introduction to Local Spectral Theory written by K. B. Laursen and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern local spectral theory is built on the classical spectral theorem, a fundamental result in single-operator theory and Hilbert spaces. This book provides an in-depth introduction to the natural expansion of this fascinating topic of Banach space operator theory. It gives complete coverage of the field, including the fundamental recent work by Albrecht and Eschmeier which provides the full duality theory for Banach space operators. One of its highlights are the many characterizations of decomposable operators, and of other related, important classes of operators, including identifications of distinguished parts, and results on permanence properties of spectra with respect to several types of similarity. Written in a careful and detailed style, it contains numerous examples, many simplified proofs of classical results, extensive references, and open problems, suitable for continued research.
Book Synopsis Introduction to the Theory of Banach Representations of Groups by : Юрий Ильич Любич
Download or read book Introduction to the Theory of Banach Representations of Groups written by Юрий Ильич Любич and published by Operator Theory: Advances and Applications. This book was released on 1988 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of group representations plays an important roie in modern mathematics and its applica~ions to natural sciences. In the compulsory university curriculum it is included as a branch of algebra, dealing with representations of finite groups (see, for example, the textbook of A. I. Kostrikin [25]). The representation theory for compact, locally compact Abelian, and Lie groups is co vered in graduate courses, concentrated around functional analysis. The author of the present boo~ has lectured for many years on functional analysis at Khar'kov University. He subsequently con tinued these lectures in the form of a graduate course on the theory of group representations, in which special attention was devoted to a retrospective exposition of operator theory and harmo nic analysis of functions from the standpoint of representation theory. In this approach it was natural to consider not only uni tary, but also Banach representations, and not only representations of groups, but also of semigroups.
Book Synopsis Operator Semigroups Meet Complex Analysis, Harmonic Analysis and Mathematical Physics by : Wolfgang Arendt
Download or read book Operator Semigroups Meet Complex Analysis, Harmonic Analysis and Mathematical Physics written by Wolfgang Arendt and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-12-10 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume originates from a conference held in Herrnhut in June 2013. It provides unique insights into the power of abstract methods and techniques in dealing successfully with numerous applications stemming from classical analysis and mathematical physics. The book features diverse topics in the area of operator semigroups, including partial differential equations, martingale and Hilbert transforms, Banach and von Neumann algebras, Schrödinger operators, maximal regularity and Fourier multipliers, interpolation, operator-theoretical problems (concerning generation, perturbation and dilation, for example), and various qualitative and quantitative Tauberian theorems with a focus on transfinite induction and magics of Cantor. The last fifteen years have seen the dawn of a new era for semigroup theory with the emphasis on applications of abstract results, often unexpected and far removed from traditional ones. The aim of the conference was to bring together prominent experts in the field of modern semigroup theory, harmonic analysis, complex analysis and mathematical physics, and to present the lively interactions between all of those areas and beyond. In addition, the meeting honored the sixtieth anniversary of Prof C. J. K. Batty, whose scientific achievements are an impressive illustration of the conference goal. These proceedings present contributions by prominent scientists at this international conference, which became a landmark event. They will be a valuable and inspiring source of information for graduate students and established researchers.

Book Synopsis Fredholm and Local Spectral Theory, with Applications to Multipliers by : Pietro Aiena

This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A signi?cant sector of the development of spectral theory outside the classical area of Hilbert space may be found amongst at multipliers de?ned on a complex commutative Banach algebra A. Although the general theory of multipliers for abstract Banach algebras has been widely investigated by several authors, it is surprising how rarely various aspects of the spectral theory, for instance Fredholm theory and Riesz theory, of these important classes of operators have been studied. This scarce consideration is even more surprising when one observes that the various aspects of spectral t- ory mentioned above are quite similar to those of a normal operator de?ned on a complex Hilbert space. In the last ten years the knowledge of the spectral properties of multip- ers of Banach algebras has increased considerably, thanks to the researches undertaken by many people working in local spectral theory and Fredholm theory. This research activity recently culminated with the publication of the book of Laursen and Neumann [214], which collects almost every thing that is known about the spectral theory of multipliers.

Book Synopsis Spectral Synthesis by : John Benedetto
Download or read book Spectral Synthesis written by John Benedetto and published by Springer. This book was released on 1975-10 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purpose The major topic in this book is spectral synthesis. The purpose of the book can be described as follows: A. To trace the development of spectral synthesis from its origins in the study of Tauberian theorems; B. To draw attention to other mathematical areas which are related to spectral syn thesis; C. To give a thorough (although not encyclopedic) treatment of spectral synthesis for 1 the case of L ( G); D. To introduce the "integration" and "structure" problems that have emerged because of the study of spectral synthesis. A and B. The first two points are discussed in Chapters 1 and 2, and are the major reasons that such a large bibliography has evolved. By the end of Chapter 2, the significant relationship between Tauberian theorems and spectral synthesis is not only firmly established, but the extent to which this relationship is still undetermined is emphasized by the open "C-set-S-set" problem. Also, Chapters 1 and 2 view spectral synthesis amidst other problems and influences. C. By contrast, Chapter 3 is (or at least is meant to be) more business-like, and synthesis is essentially the only topic under discussion.
