Book Synopsis Non-Archimedean Operator Theory by : Toka Diagana
Download or read book Non-Archimedean Operator Theory written by Toka Diagana and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-07 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the theory of linear operators on non-Archimedean Banach spaces. The topics treated in this book range from a basic introduction to non-Archimedean valued fields, free non-Archimedean Banach spaces, bounded and unbounded linear operators in the non-Archimedean setting, to the spectral theory for some classes of linear operators. The theory of Fredholm operators is emphasized and used as an important tool in the study of the spectral theory of non-Archimedean operators. Explicit descriptions of the spectra of some operators are worked out. Moreover, detailed background materials on non-Archimedean valued fields and free non-Archimedean Banach spaces are included for completeness and for reference. The readership of the book is aimed toward graduate and postgraduate students, mathematicians, and non-mathematicians such as physicists and engineers who are interested in non-Archimedean functional analysis. Further, it can be used as an introduction to the study of non-Archimedean operator theory in general and to the study of spectral theory in other special cases.

Book Synopsis Stable Approximate Evaluation of Unbounded Operators by : C. W. Groetsch
Download or read book Stable Approximate Evaluation of Unbounded Operators written by C. W. Groetsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectral theory of bounded linear operators teams up with von Neumann’s theory of unbounded operators in this monograph to provide a general framework for the study of stable methods for the evaluation of unbounded operators. An introductory chapter provides numerous illustrations of unbounded linear operators that arise in various inverse problems of mathematical physics. Before the general theory of stabilization methods is developed, an extensive exposition of the necessary background material from the theory of operators on Hilbert space is provided. Several specific stabilization methods are studied in detail, with particular attention to the Tikhonov-Morozov method and its iterated version.
Book Synopsis Spectral Theory of Non-Self-Adjoint Two-Point Differential Operators by : John Locker
Download or read book Spectral Theory of Non-Self-Adjoint Two-Point Differential Operators written by John Locker and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Develops the spectral theory of an nth order non-self-adjoint two- point differential operator L in the complex Hilbert space L2[0,1]. The differential operator L is determined by an nth order formal differential l and by n linearly independent boundary values B1,.,Bn. Locker first lays the foundations of the spectral theory for closed linear operators and Fredholm operators in Hilbert spaces before developing the spectral theory of the differential operator L. The book is a sequel to Functional analysis and two-point differential operators, 1986. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.
Book Synopsis Functional Analysis by : V.S. Sunder
Download or read book Functional Analysis written by V.S. Sunder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an elegant and concise fashion, this book presents the concepts of functional analysis required by students of mathematics and physics. It begins with the basics of normed linear spaces and quickly proceeds to concentrate on Hilbert spaces, specifically the spectral theorem for bounded as well as unbounded operators in separable Hilbert spaces. While the first two chapters are devoted to basic propositions concerning normed vector spaces and Hilbert spaces, the third chapter treats advanced topics which are perhaps not standard in a first course on functional analysis. It begins with the Gelfand theory of commutative Banach algebras, and proceeds to the Gelfand-Naimark theorem on commutative C*-algebras. A discussion of representations of C*-algebras follows, and the final section of this chapter is devoted to the Hahn-Hellinger classification of separable representations of commutative C*-algebras. After this detour into operator algebras, the fourth chapter reverts to more standard operator theory in Hilbert space, dwelling on topics such as the spectral theorem for normal operators, the polar decomposition theorem, and the Fredholm theory for compact operators. A brief introduction to the theory of unbounded operators on Hilbert space is given in the fifth and final chapter. There is a voluminous appendix whose purpose is to fill in possible gaps in the reader's background in various areas such as linear algebra, topology, set theory and measure theory. The book is interspersed with many exercises, and hints are provided for the solutions to the more challenging of these.

Book Synopsis Linear Operators and their Spectra by : E. Brian Davies
Download or read book Linear Operators and their Spectra written by E. Brian Davies and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-04-26 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wide ranging but self-contained account of the spectral theory of non-self-adjoint linear operators is ideal for postgraduate students and researchers, and contains many illustrative examples and exercises. Fredholm theory, Hilbert-Schmidt and trace class operators are discussed, as are one-parameter semigroups and perturbations of their generators. Two chapters are devoted to using these tools to analyze Markov semigroups. The text also provides a thorough account of the new theory of pseudospectra, and presents the recent analysis by the author and Barry Simon of the form of the pseudospectra at the boundary of the numerical range. This was a key ingredient in the determination of properties of the zeros of certain orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle. Finally, two methods, both very recent, for obtaining bounds on the eigenvalues of non-self-adjoint Schrodinger operators are described. The text concludes with a description of the surprising spectral properties of the non-self-adjoint harmonic oscillator.
