Book excerpt: This book describes a set of tools and algorithms then enable the electrical engineer in fields such as circuit design, power delivery, signal integrity, analog design, package and board modeling to arrive at approximate and exact solutions robustly and relatively efficiently, even when typical software packages may fail to do so. By leveraging well established and time tested methods, the author demonstrates how the practitioner will be able to deal with various circuit design problems and signal integrity issues both in the frequency and time domains. The presented tool set is an alternative to “brute force” time discretization and software utilization, offering great insight into the operations of linear systems ranging from RLC networks to device modeling.

This book was released on 2008-07-14 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectral techniques facilitate the design and testing of today's increasingly complex digital devices There is heightened interest in spectral techniques for the design of digital devices dictated by ever increasing demands on technology that often cannot be met by classical approaches. Spectral methods provide a uniform and consistent theoretic environment for recent achievements in this area, which appear divergent in many other approaches. Spectral Logic and Its Applications for the Design of Digital Devices gives readers a foundation for further exploration of abstract harmonic analysis over finite groups in the analysis, design, and testing of digital devices. After an introduction, this book provides the essential mathematical background for discussing spectral methods. It then delves into spectral logic and its applications, covering: * Walsh, Haar, arithmetic transform, Reed-Muller transform for binary-valued functions and Vilenkin-Chrestenson transform, generalized Haar, and other related transforms for multiple-valued functions * Polynomial expressions and decision diagram representations for switching and multiple-value functions * Spectral analysis of Boolean functions * Spectral synthesis and optimization of combinational and sequential devices * Spectral methods in analysis and synthesis of reliable devices * Spectral techniques for testing computer hardware This is the authoritative reference for computer science and engineering professionals and researchers with an interest in spectral methods of representing discrete functions and related applications in the design and testing of digital devices. It is also an excellent text for graduate students in courses covering spectral logic and its applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Second Edition of "Photonic Signal Processing" updates most recent R&D on processing techniques of signals in photonic domain from the fundamentals given in its first edition. Several modern techniques in Photonic Signal Processing (PSP) are described: Graphical signal flow technique to simplify the analysis of the photonic transfer functions, plus its insights into the physical phenomena of such processors. The resonance and interference of optical fields are presented by the poles and zeros of the optical circuits, respectively. Detailed design procedures for fixed and tunable optical filters. These filters, "brick-wall-like", now play a highly important role in ultra-broadband (100GBaud) to spectral shaping of sinc temporal response so as to generate truly Nyquist sampler of the received eye diagrams 3-D PSP allows multi-dimensional processing for highly complex optical signals Photonic differentiators and integrators for dark soliton generations. Optical dispersion compensating processors for ultra-long haul optical transmission systems. Some optical devices essentials for PSP. Many detailed PSP techniques are given in the chapters of this Second Edition.

Book excerpt: ESSENTIALS OF ADVANCED CIRCUIT ANALYSIS Comprehensive textbook answering questions regarding the Advanced Circuit Analysis subject, including its theory, experiment, and role in modern and future technology Essentials of Advanced Circuit Analysis focuses on fundamentals with the balance of a systems theoretical approach and current technological issues. The book aims to achieve harmony between simplicity, engineering practicality, and perceptivity in the material presentation. Each chapter presents its material on various levels of technological and mathematical difficulty, broadening the potential readership and making the book suitable for both engineering and engineering technology curricula. Essentials of Advanced Circuit Analysis is an instrument that will introduce our readers to real-life engineering problems—why they crop up and how they are solved. The text explains the need for a specific task, shows the possible approaches to meeting the challenge, discusses the proper method to pursue, finds the solution to the problem, and reviews the solution's correctness, the options of its obtaining, and the limitations of the methods and the results. Essentials of Advanced Circuit Analysis covers sample topics such as: Traditional circuit analysis's methods and techniques, concentrating on the advanced circuit analysis in the time domain and frequency domain Application of differential equations for finding circuits’ transient responses in the time domain, and classical solution (integration) of circuit’s differential equation, including the use of the convolution integral Laplace and Fourier transforms as the main modern methods of advanced circuit analysis in the frequency domain Essentials of Advanced Circuit Analysis is an ideal textbook and can be assigned for electronics, signals and systems, control theory, and spectral analysis courses. It’s also valuable to industrial engineers who want to brush up on a specific advanced circuit analysis topic.

This book was released on 2015-05-11 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work discusses methods for efficient audio processing with finite impulse response (FIR) filters. Such filters are widely used for high-quality acoustic signal processing, e.g. for headphone or loudspeaker equalization, in binaural synthesis, in spatial sound reproduction techniques and for the auralization of reverberant environments. This work focuses on real-time applications, where the audio processing is subject to minimal delays (latencies). Different fast convolution concepts (transform-based, interpolation-based and number-theoretic), which are used to implement FIR filters efficiently, are examined regarding their applicability in real-time. These fast, elementary techniques can be further improved by the concept of partitioned convolution. This work introduces a classification and a general framework for partitioned convolution algorithms and analyzes the algorithmic classes which are relevant for real-time filtering: Elementary concepts which do not partition the filter impulse response (e.g. regular Overlap-Add and Overlap-Save convolution) and advanced techniques, which partition filters uniformly and non-uniformly. The algorithms are thereby regarded in their analytic complexity, their performance on target hardware, the optimal choice of parameters, assemblies of multiple filters, multi-channel processing and the exchange of filter impulse responses without audible artifacts. Suitable convolution techniques are identified for different types of audio applications, ranging from resource-aware auralizations on mobile devices to extensive room acoustics audio rendering using dedicated multi-processor systems.
