Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The State of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) have sought out ways to extend the life of the repair materials used by their construction crews, specifically, using high performance repair materials for the purposes of patching worn down or cracked sections of highways and bridge decks. Ohio is known for its frequent changes in weather, with freeze-thaw cycles occurring multiple times throughout the year. These cycles affect the lifespan of the repair material and create more maintenance for the DOT. Products that combat this problem were chosen, installed and examined over a year period to determine which could be recommended for continued use. The objective of this study was to thoroughly examine other state's specifications, as well as taking into consideration the results of the research and lab work done by fellow graduate students on high-performance repair material and to recommend a standard specification for the Ohio Department of Transportation. The research team documented the processes in which each of the repair materials was installed in order to compare ease of installation and to determine whether the material would be used in subsequent tests. After examination of previous recommendations and results, the materials that were chosen for the summer 2015 installation and testing were RepCon 928 and MG Krete. RepCon 928 was the only product that was used during the winter 2014/15 installations and was considered for further investigation.

Book Synopsis Decision Based Design by : Vijitashwa Pandey
Download or read book Decision Based Design written by Vijitashwa Pandey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-08-26 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a presentation that formalizes what makes up decision based design, Decision Based Design defines the major concepts that go into product realization. It presents all major concepts in design decision making in an integrated way and covers the fundamentals of decision analysis in engineering design. It also trains engineers to understand the impacts of design decision. The author teaches concepts in demand modeling and customer preference modeling and provides examples. This book teaches most fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design like: concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. The book provides the tools engineering practitioners and researchers need to first understand that engineering design is best viewed as a sequence of decisions made by the stakeholders involved and then apply the decision based design concepts in practice. It teaches fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design, such as concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. This book helps students and practitioners understand that there is a rigorous way to analyze engineering decisions taking into consideration all the potential technical and business impacts of their decisions. It can be used in its entirety to teach a course in decision based design, while selected chapters can also be used to cover courses in subdisciplines that make up decision based design.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis wil be of interest to materials engineers, construction engineers, maintenance engineers, pavement contractors and others interested in the use of latex-modified mortars (LMM) and concretes ( LMC). Information is provided on material properties of various LMM and LMC, as well as current construction practices used for LMM and LMC. Potential applications for LMM and LMC are also included. The use of innovative modified portland cement mortars and concretes for construction and maintenance applications is growing. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the current state of the practice with respect to the use of latex-modified portland cement concretes and mortars. The extent of use of each material (including case histories), based on results of surveys of state highway agencies and a review of the literature, is summarized.
