Symposium and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demands for higher performance for modern aircraft have led the wind tunnel community, which is an integral link in the design process, to develop more refined and cost effective measuring techniques. These technologies have gradually matured from laboratory novelties into instruments regularly used in aerodynamic testing. The development of these modern measurement techniques has greatly extended the capability and accuracy of the classical methods for measurement techniques and provided better insight into flow physics. This Symposium provided a forum for active researchers to address the state-of-the-art, to exchange experiences and ideas, and for the practitioners to obtain an overview of the technology and learn how to appy it.

Book Synopsis The Aerodynamics of Heavy Vehicles II: Trucks, Buses, and Trains by : Fred Browand
Download or read book The Aerodynamics of Heavy Vehicles II: Trucks, Buses, and Trains written by Fred Browand and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-30 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is our pleasure to present these proceedings for “The Aerodynamics of Heavy Vehicles II: Trucks, Buses and Trains” International Conference held in Lake - hoe, California, August 26-31, 2007 by Engineering Conferences International (ECI). Brought together were the world’s leading scientists and engineers from industry, universities, and research laboratories, including truck and high-speed train manufacturers and operators. All were gathered to discuss computer simu- tion and experimental techniques to be applied for the design of the more efficient trucks, buses and high-speed trains required in future years. This was the second conference in the series. The focus of the first conference in 2002 was the interplay between computations and experiment in minimizing ae- dynamic drag. The present proceedings, from the 2007 conference, address the development and application of advanced aerodynamic simulation and experim- tal methods for state-of-the-art analysis and design, as well as the development of new ideas and trends holding promise for the coming 10-year time span. Also - cluded, are studies of heavy vehicle aerodynamic tractor and trailer add-on - vices, studies of schemes to delay undesirable flow separation, and studies of - derhood thermal management.

Book Synopsis Aviation Noise Impact Management by : Laurent Leylekian
Download or read book Aviation Noise Impact Management written by Laurent Leylekian and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book provides a view into the state-of-the-art research on aviation noise and related annoyance. The book will primarily focus on the achievements of the ANIMA project (Aviation Noise Impact Management through Novel Approaches), but not exclusively. The content has a broader theme in order to encompass. regulation issues, the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) balanced approach, progresses made on technologies and reduction of noise at source, impact of possible future civil supersonic aircraft, land-use planning issues, as well as the core topics of the ANIMA project, i.e. impact on human beings, annoyance, quality of life, health and findings of the project in this respect. This book differs from traditional research programmes on aviation noise as the authors endeavour, not to lower noise at source, but to reduce the annoyance. This book examines these non-acoustic factors in an effort to help those most affected by aviation noise - communities living close to airports, and also help airport managers, policy-makers, local authorities and researchers to deal with this issue holistically. The book concludes with some recommendations for EU, national and local policy-makers, airport and aviation authorities, and more broadly a scientifically literate audience. These recommendations may help to identify gaps for progress in terms of research but also genuine implementation actions for political and regulatory authorities.
