Book excerpt: The second edition of a rigorous and example-driven introduction to topics in economic dynamics that emphasizes techniques for modeling dynamic systems. This text provides an introduction to the modern theory of economic dynamics, with emphasis on mathematical and computational techniques for modeling dynamic systems. Written to be both rigorous and engaging, the book shows how sound understanding of the underlying theory leads to effective algorithms for solving real-world problems. The material makes extensive use of programming examples to illustrate ideas, bringing to life the abstract concepts in the text. Key topics include algorithms and scientific computing, simulation, Markov models, and dynamic programming. Part I introduces fundamentals and part II covers more advanced material. This second edition has been thoroughly updated, drawing on recent research in the field. New for the second edition: “Programming-language agnostic” presentation using pseudocode. New chapter 1 covering conceptual issues concerning Markov chains such as ergodicity and stability. New focus in chapter 2 on algorithms and techniques for program design and high-performance computing. New focus on household problems rather than optimal growth in material on dynamic programming. Solutions to many exercises, code, and other resources available on a supplementary website.

This book was released on 2023-02-15 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents frontier research on the use of computational methods to model complex interactions in economics and finance. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and simulations offer effective means of analyzing and learning from large as well as new types of data. These computational tools have permeated various subfields of economics, finance, and also across different schools of economic thought. Through 16 chapters written by pioneers in economics, finance, computer science, psychology, complexity and statistics/econometrics, the book introduces their original research and presents the findings they have yielded. Theoretical and empirical studies featured in this book draw on a variety of approaches such as agent-based modeling, numerical simulations, computable economics, as well as employing tools from artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms. The use of computational approaches to perform counterfactual thought experiments are also introduced, which help transcend the limits posed by traditional mathematical and statistical tools. The book also includes discussions on methodology, epistemology, history and issues concerning prediction, validation, and inference, all of which have become pertinent with the increasing use of computational approaches in economic analysis.
Book Synopsis Evolutionary Computation in Economics and Finance by : Shu-Heng Chen
Download or read book Evolutionary Computation in Economics and Finance written by Shu-Heng Chen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-05-27 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a decade's development, evolutionary computation (EC) proves to be a powerful tool kit for economic analysis. While the demand for this equipment is increasing, there is no volume exclusively written for economists. This volume for the first time helps economists to get a quick grasp on how EC may support their research. A comprehensive coverage of the subject is given, that includes the following three areas: game theory, agent-based economic modelling and financial engineering. Twenty leading scholars from each of these areas contribute a chapter to the volume. The reader will find himself treading the path of the history of this research area, from the fledgling stage to the burgeoning era. The results on games, labour markets, pollution control, institution and productivity, financial markets, trading systems design and derivative pricing, are new and interesting for different target groups. The book also includes informations on web sites, conferences, and computer software.
Book Synopsis Computational Methods in Economic Dynamics by : Herbert Dawid
Download or read book Computational Methods in Economic Dynamics written by Herbert Dawid and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is centered around the issue of market design and resulting market dynamics. The economic crisis of 2007-2009 has once again highlighted the importance of a proper design of market protocols and institutional details for economic dynamics and macroeconomics. Papers in this volume capture institutional details of particular markets, behavioral details of agents' decision making as well as spillovers between markets and effects to the macroeconomy. Computational methods are used to replicate and understand market dynamics emerging from interaction of heterogeneous agents, and to develop models that have predictive power for complex market dynamics. Finally treatments of overlapping generations models and differential games with heterogeneous actors are provided.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the areas of information management and management science are full of algorithmic challenges, the proliferation of data has called for the design of e?cient and e?ective algorithms and data structures for their management and processing. The International Conference on Algorithmic Aspects in Information and Management(AAIM) is intended for originalalgorithmicresearchon immediate applications and/or fundamental problems pertinent to information mana- ment and management science to be broadly construed. The conference aims at bringing together researchers in computer science, operations research, applied mathematics, economics, and related disciplines. This volume contains papers presented at AAIM 2010: the 6th International Conference on Algorithmic Aspects in Information and Management, which was held during July 19-21, 2010, in Weihai, China. We received a total of 50 s- missions.Eachsubmissionwasreviewedbythreemembersof the ProgramC- mittee or their deputies on the quality, originality, soundness, and signi?cance of its contribution. The committee decided to accept 31 papers. The program also included two invited keynote talks. The success of the conference resulted from the input of many people. We would like ?rst of all to thank all the members of the Program Committee for their expert evaluation of the submissions. The local organizers in the School of Computer Science and Technology, Shandong University, did an extraordinary job, for which we are very grateful. Book Synopsis Duality Principles in Nonconvex Systems by : David Yang Gao
Download or read book Duality Principles in Nonconvex Systems written by David Yang Gao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivated by practical problems in engineering and physics, drawing on a wide range of applied mathematical disciplines, this book is the first to provide, within a unified framework, a self-contained comprehensive mathematical theory of duality for general non-convex, non-smooth systems, with emphasis on methods and applications in engineering mechanics. Topics covered include the classical (minimax) mono-duality of convex static equilibria, the beautiful bi-duality in dynamical systems, the interesting tri-duality in non-convex problems and the complicated multi-duality in general canonical systems. A potentially powerful sequential canonical dual transformation method for solving fully nonlinear problems is developed heuristically and illustrated by use of many interesting examples as well as extensive applications in a wide variety of nonlinear systems, including differential equations, variational problems and inequalities, constrained global optimization, multi-well phase transitions, non-smooth post-bifurcation, large deformation mechanics, structural limit analysis, differential geometry and non-convex dynamical systems. With exceptionally coherent and lucid exposition, the work fills a big gap between the mathematical and engineering sciences. It shows how to use formal language and duality methods to model natural phenomena, to construct intrinsic frameworks in different fields and to provide ideas, concepts and powerful methods for solving non-convex, non-smooth problems arising naturally in engineering and science. Much of the book contains material that is new, both in its manner of presentation and in its research development. A self-contained appendix provides some necessary background from elementary functional analysis. Audience: The book will be a valuable resource for students and researchers in applied mathematics, physics, mechanics and engineering. The whole volume or selected chapters can also be recommended as a text for both senior undergraduate and graduate courses in applied mathematics, mechanics, general engineering science and other areas in which the notions of optimization and variational methods are employed.
