In den 1960er Jahren bestand zum ersten Mal Einigkeit unter den Bildungsforschern und –politikern, dass die Bildungschancen in Deutschland ungleich verteilt sind. Es findet eine leistungsunabhängige soziale Auslese statt, die sich zu dieser Zeit vor allem zu Ungunsten von Mädchen und Kindern von Arbeitern vollzog. Diese Hausarbeit soll zunächst einen Überblick geben über die Ursachen dauerhafter Bildungsungleichheiten. Wodurch können Bildungsbenachteiligungen entstehen, die zu heterogenen Lebenschancen führen? Um ungleiche Bildungschancen aus soziologischer Sicht zu betrachten, wird der Ansatz Boudons bezüglich des primären und sekundären Herkunftseffektes angeführt. Weiterhin werden Bildungsungleichheiten auf Hochschulebene verdeutlicht indem die soziale Herkunft in Verbindung mit verschiedenen Bildungsgängen betrachtet wird. Haben Kinder von Arbeitern auf universitärer Ebene grundsätzlich die gleichen Chancen wie Kinder aus höheren Schichten? Gibt es fachspezifische Unterschiede? Der letzte Teil dieser Arbeit geht auf aktuelle Fakten aus der PISA-Studie zur Bedeutung der sozialen Herkunft ein und erläutert die Bildungschancen von Kindern mit Migrationshintergrund im Vergleich zu Kindern deutscher Herkunft.

Besonders das Thema „Bildung und soziale Ungleichheit“ steht im Mittelpunkt dieser Debatte. Der Begriff des Habitus erhielt durch Bourdieu seine Prägung. Seine Erklärung der „Habitus-Theorie“ wird im Zusammenhang mit „Bildung und sozialer Ungleichheit“ von Wichtigkeit, da er die „Klassenkulturen“ für die Aufrechterhaltung von sozialer Ungleichheit verantwortlich macht. Bourdieu geht von einer Ungleichverteilung dreier Ressourcen unter der Bevölkerung aus: dem ökonomischen Kapital, dem Bildungskapital und dem sozialen Kapital. Dadurch gliedern sich die Gesellschaftsmitglieder in eine vertikale Klassenordnung. Das Aufwachsen innerhalb der jeweiligen Lebensbedingungen bestimmter Klassen, lässt Bourdieu zufolge „automatisch“ und weitgehend unbewusst bestimmte Habitusformen entstehen, die dann die Denk-, Wahrnehmungs- und Bewertungsmuster der Menschen in ihrem Verhalten begrenzen. Dem Bildungssystem einer Gesellschaft unterstellt Bourdieu eine zentrale Bedeutung in der Reproduktion sozialer Ungleichheiten. Für Bourdieu geht es in der Schule nicht nur um Erziehung, sondern sie dient als Selektionsmittel und produziert demnach nicht nur Wissen, sondern auch Stile, Haltungen, Meinungen und Urteile, ohne das es den Individuen bewusst wird. Nach Bourdieu wird die pädagogische Arbeit als „Einprägungsarbeit“ gesehen, die durch „magische Weiherituale“ legitimiert wird. Nach Bourdieu sind es die Unterrichtsmethoden und Beurteilungsverfahren in den Schulen und Universitäten, die vorhandene Ungleichheiten, indem sie ungleiche Eintrittsbedingungen von SchülerInnen und StudentInnen systematisch ignorieren, bestätigen. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit, die den Titel „Soziale Ungleichheit im Bildungssystem: Das Beispiel Frankreich“ trägt, soll betrachtet werden, in wieweit es einen Zusammenhang zwischen schulischen und familiären Habitusformen gibt und wie sie im direkten Zusammenhang mit dem Bildungssystem und Bildungschancen stehen und insbesondere, wie sich die französische „Eliteklasse“ ihren Erhalt sichert. Bevor ich auf Bourdieu eingehe, werde ich zunächst allgemeine Punkte zum Thema der „sozialen Ungleichheit“ erläutern.
